There's no question that Martin Campbell gets Bond and has the goods to deliver a knockout first entry for a new actor. Campbell has even said recently that he won't rule himself out for completing the hattrick. As a safe pair of hands it would make sense to approach MC again. Though I get a sneaking feeling they'll be going for something totally new this time. That said, I can easily see them going with a Nolan or even a Villeneuve for Bond 26 just to shake things up a bit.
  • Some suggestions:

Drew Goddard ("Bad Times at the El Royale")
David Mackenzie ("Hell or High Water")
Gavin Hood ("Eye in the Sky")

Since I would prefer a more humorous tone for the next film(s), I would like to see a Bond movie directed by Taika Waititi, but that will never happen...

I've always championed David Mackenzie, think he would do a good job!

Just keep Nolan out of it.

Right on. Right to the point and quite right.

Villeneuve is a great filmmaker but he’s too meditative and slow paced for Bond.

So true ! I enjoyed Blade Runner 2049 but, let's face it, it was slllllooooowwwww. The original Blade Runner -- in any form you choose -- is SO superior ! Arrival is great, and it SHOULD be contemplative, given the nature and content of the story. It does not induce Zzzzzz like BR2049. For those who've already seen Sicario, does it display more life ?

I have no problem with slow, as I'd love to see Bond order black coffee with figs and yogurt and eat it, move around the room checking for bugs and that sort of slow stuff.

Besides, what I really want is a detective spy thriller and not an action bonanza. So i still say Villeneuve would be interesting :)

Yes!!! That being said - Sicario does move at a good pace.
  • That would be legendary if Campbell introduced three Bonds over a span of 30 years. To misquote Ourumov: "You can't lose."

We should be realistic, that the earliest time for Bond 26 is fall 2024. And about the possible directors:

    Cary Joji Fukunaga
If he feels, he has another Bond movie in him, that wants out, I awould appreciate this. Problem: Fukunaga is up next for the TV Mini Series of NAPOLEON, the unfilmed Stanley Kubrick project, now not as movie, but a mini TV series, and apparently he had a lot of talks with Christiane Kubrick, and with Steven Spielberg, who kind of will be one of the producers. Fukunaga says, it will happen.

    Denis Villeneuve
Have yet to watch DUNE, but liked SICARIO and BLADE RUNNER 2049. But then, DUNE 2 is already in pre-production, plus he is rumoured to take over director's reign from James Cameron for CLEOPATRA.

    Christopher Nolan
I like The Dark Knight trilogy, and with Inception he proofed, that he could do Bond-style movies. But he should not to a Christopher Nolan film, which happens to feature James Bond. As sombeody above mentioned, his next project is OPPENHEIMER. which is expected to open 2023, in his case that would mean Bond 26 could come out 2025 earliest. And he never works with a seond unit director, he insists to oversee all scenes himself.

    Danny Boyle
Yes, although a lot of things have gone wrong culminating in Boyle walking out. Yet the reasons are a bit enigmatic. Some insiders say,, he did not want to kill Bond and left, other insiders say, he wanted to kill Bond, and the producers refused to let him do this. Which makes it puzzöing,. that Bond actually dies in NTTD. Boyle quit, because he wanted Bond to die, and then, his successor actually kills Bond. Hmmmh ... Just speculating, but in that case the differences must have been more vital, be it the casting of Tomasz Kot or Hodge's script being a bout a Second Cold War (which is more or less just happening). Still I would like to know the script, maybe it would be a possibilty for Bond 26.

    Martin Campbell
I would love having him back, he might not be the most inventive and imaginative director, but he knows how to introduce a new Bond within the franchise, having done so twice succesfully.

    Tomas Alfredsson
IMO TINKER TAYLOR SOLDIER SPY was excellent. But the disastrous shooting and bokxoffice THE SNOWMAN might have been his final stint in Blockbuster Spy Thrillers.

    Anton Corbijn
His Le Carré adaption A MOST WANTED MAN was a good and solid spy thriller.

    Susanne Bier
THE NIGHT MANAGER anyone? Liked this one very much.

    Susanna White
OUR KIND OF TRAITORS. Another Le Carré adaption, starring Naomie Harris, Ewan McGregor and Stellan Skargard. Nice movie.

David Lowery (The Green Knight, A Ghost Story)

    My 007 directors are:

Joe Wright- It's weird that he seems to not have been mentionned once. "HANNAH" proved that he is able to direct a spy action movie with ease and talent. And he is obviously one of the greatest british filmmaker right now.

David MacKenzie-Probably the most underrated director in Hollywood. I think that HELL OR HIGH WATER and STARRED UP are masterpieces. And he was on the list of the directors to take on NTTD.

Steve McQueen- He only made one genre movie, the magnificent "WIDOWS", with which he proved that he can direct spectacular action sequences, pure moment of cinema (the long take in the limousine with Colin Farrell, the rap song murder scene...) and tremendous dramatic performances. And he is British.

Steven Soderbergh- He was the 1st choice to direct "Man From UNCLE" with Clooney as Napoleon Solo, and I'm intrigued about what it would look like. And he is a big fan of the greatest Bond movie ever (OHMSS).

Tom Twyker-Also a very underrated director, he is behind beautiful and stylish works of art such THE PERFUME, the cult classic LOLA RENNT or the sci fi epic CLOUD ATLAS. And he also direct the spy thriller THE INTERNATIONAL with Clive Owen at the time when he was the fan favorite to play 007.

Matt Reeves- After his awesome take on the PLANET OF THE APES franchise and the very promising THE BATMAN , I think that the Broccolis should take a look on this guy who has the ability to make sequel /reboot / remake of legendary movie franchise or movie classic in bringing something new without losing the essence of those.

Choi Dong Hoon-Maybe my favorite South Korean director and probably one of the best blockbuster directors in the world.THE THIEVES is the movie that looks the most like a Bond movie in his filmography and it's an awesome one, so does the epic ASSASSINATION. His movies are very, VERY successful in Korea.

No more drippy Oscar-baiters, please. The Bond series doesn't need someone who can compose pretty images, it needs a competent workman director who knows pacing and gets the attitude of the character. Terrence Young understood Bond. So did Hamilton, Gilbert, Glen, and Campbell in their own ways. The newer guys have seemed more interested in subversion or using the Bond series to bolster their own careers.

I want a real author for the next one, someone who can bring their identity to the film. Danny Boyle or Denis Villeneuve would be perfect.
  • If it’s true that Boyle’s version of B25 was more on the fun and lighthearted side of things, I’m game for him to set the tone for the next Bond.

The more I think about it… give Martin Campbell a shot at the trifecta. We won’t have this chance again given he’s pushing 80. After that, give me more Fukunaga or Villenueve.

For now, for Bond 26, I’m 100% on the Campbell express.

Announce he is confirmed director along with the new Bond Oct 2022 for the 60th Anniversary.

Also… “From the director who brought you Casino Royale and Goldeneye” could be a massive hype builder.

Maybe Shane Black could put the fun back in Bond.

I’d like that but his style is very Lee Tamahori, have you seen IronMan 3 ?
It has a lot in common with die another day in it’s Tone and Aldrich Killian gave me a lot of gustave graves Vibes.

I don’t mind that, i liked die another day a lot but many of you guys hatted that one and getting Shane black it’s like getting Tamahori.

Ohh and here is my suggestion:

Joe and Anthony Russo. They did great making a sort of espionage adventure with Captain America the winter soldier.

They know how to bring good action and humor.

Another idea which might be way too crazy for Bond but could work Taika Waititi

  • Edgar Wright, Guy Ritchie and Matt Reeves.
  • Put me in the minority (especially as a lover of CR and GE) but I have no interest in Martin Campbell coming back. As a producer/consultant for the reboot? Sure. There are so many new fresh directorial choices out there, I think they should try and inject as much new blood behind the camera as possible. With 25 films over 60 years, it’s going to be difficult to continue to present fresh new plots, characters, depictions while staying true to the essence of Bond so shaking up the talent behind the camera is going to be a big part of preventing the franchise from going stale.
  • David Leitch
    Kim Jee-woon
    Gareth Evans
    The Russo Bros.
    Martin Campbell
    Chloé Zhao

It has been confirmed that, so far, Denis Villeneuve, Cary Fukunaga, Christopher Nolan and Edgar Wright have a pitch for the Bond reboot. That is quite the list. It's safe to say that Eon are rather spoiled for choice. I trust that one of those names is likely to direct. I suppose we will find out next year.

Another name that I think could be really cool is Julia Ducournau. I really like Raw and have yet to see Titane (it looks sick though). She's broken out in French arthouse horror films and just won the Palm D'or. She's spoken about making the move to Hollywood and seems relatively enthusiastic about moving into franchise films. If Eon wanted to have an edgy choice who could give the films a more more modern look, she would be terrific. She has a Winding-Refn quality to her as a filmmaker and is destined for A-list status. I could see her becoming a Villeneuve level director in the years to come.

  • I really don't see what Ducournau could bring to the series. While I liked Raw, Titane was nothing more than a pastiche of Cronenberg and Gaspar Noé's works that gets lost halfway through its plot. There is (a very brief) action scene in the movie, very Tarantino in its style, but nothing that indicates she could direct a Bond film or even would like to.

I think it's a bit strange seeing people complain that the Craig films are too sexless, colourless, and grim, then saying that their ideal choice to direct the next one is Denis Villeneuve or even Nolan.

If anything, their takes will be even more gray, grim, and spare.

I also personally don't want a workmanlike director because practically every action blockbuster nowadays is directed by one of those. The Bond films can't (and shouldn't) try to compete with the insane release schedules of actors like the Rock or franchises like the MCU.

Just pumping out generic movie after generic movie like an assembly line. I like the fact that the films have now become something bespoke and unique.

Frankly, my hope for the next Bond is that they don't try to make a consistent series and just hire widely new directors and writers for each instalment. Experiment a little.

When a franchise has been going for six decades and has nearly 30 movies, I think testing the limits of what you can do is not a mortal sin.
