I'm new to the forums here but I used to be a part of the old mi6 forums back in the day so I thought I'd introduce myself and say hi. So hey! :) I've loved good ol' JB since I was young and it got me into filmmaking which is my one true love and passion. Hope to have some good discussions with fellow movie and James Bond lovers here.

Oh and are Dusty and Luds and Tux and all them still around? If so, hey guys!

Hi, welcome aboard. Dusty and Luds are on a sort of sabbatical, but will be back I'm sure.
Still a few of us around from the early years though!!
  • Hi, I used to post on the an old Bond forum which isn't around any more (can't remember the name) but haven't been active in Bond fandom for a while. Big fan of Daniel Craig and don't get the hate towards Pierce Brosnan, though DAD was comething of a disappointment.

Welcome, @Lord_Brett! You'll find quite a few people will agree with you, including me: Brosnan is my favorite Bond, but DAD was...well, you know.

    Dear MI6 Community:

I stumbled across your erudite, informed thread of comments by chance today, and consider it a great gift on this last day of 2012. I am American and have been driven, by some kind of inner compulsion, to see "Skyfall" four times since it opened, each time appreciating more the well-knit production. I consider it a virtually flawless film. Incidentally, I see two scenes in the film --the fireworks over Macao harbor and the burning of Skyfall-- as a backward glance to a great British filmmaker, Alfred Hitchcock.

Specifically, I interpret the fireworks over Macao harbor as an homage to the cut to fireworks over Monte Carlo after Cary Grant and Grace Kelly's long kiss in Hitchcock's "To Catch A Thief", and the burning of Skyfall, to the burning of Manderley in Hitchcock's "Rebecca".

There are so many purely "British" tropes for Anglophiles to glory in: The scene with Silva/Rodrigues' dozen henchmen stretched out in a line as they sweep down the land towards Skyfall, reminds me of beaters on a shoot flushing out the game --as it was probably meant to.

There is so much to plumb in the film, I look forward to reading further on the MI6 site. "Skyfall" is a "classic", as Ezra Pound defined it: "News that stays news".

The only "nit" I found in the film was Javier Bardem's substitution of "wreak" for "wreck" when, on the abandoned island, he says "wreak an election". Entirely pardonable: Bardem's English does not have to be perfect --his performance comes close!

A Happy New Year To All,

    Lark

@lark, welcome to the forums! Some incredibly diverse and different views you've brought, and I love your connection to the fireworks in 'To Catch A Thief' - wonderful film, that one.

Jump into the conversations soon, as we'd love to have you here.

Also, in terms of Bardem's English, I don't believe he says either of those words; I'm pretty sure he says "rig an election," but his accent sounds like "reeg."

I always thought it was "rig" myself, but since I'm not a native speaker it's not my call. Due to other interests I have, however, years of listening experience of Spaniards speaking lovely but heavily accented English... as well as their own lovely languages (Spanish and variants of Catalan). :)

Oh, and, I haven't introduced myself at all, I just jumped in head first. :D So... I'm a recent arrival here, trying to catch up on stuff. I like to talk. :P I love to read analysis and different views. I suppose I ended up here, because I was desperate for other opinions and discussion about Skyfall and my real-life friends just aren't interested and seem somewhat bored of me going on and on about it...

Daniel Craig became my favourite Bond on first viewing of Casino Royale. I like all the previous Bond actors to an extent, apart from Lazenby, I'm afraid... though it's been a couple of decades since I saw OHMSS, and I should try and give it, and him, another chance some day soon. I grew up with Roger Moore as Bond, and his movies were the first I saw at the cinema. Unfortunately I can't remember which one my dad first took me to watch - and neither can he - but anyway, thanks dad! I kept the tradition up as I grew up, always checking out the new films, and rewatching them (as well as older ones) on tv. My interest went up post Casino, and has now really shot up after Skyfall. I've never cared about the character of Bond as much as I do now. Can't wait what they'll do next.

Hi all. I was in the mood for some James Bond discussions and ended up here. I'll be lurking around a bit to see what kind of people have gathered in this corner of the interwebs, and might join in as well soon :) Best wishes for the new year!

I've been here since November 2012. I am the famed SuperheroSith, a big 007, Batman and Star Wars fan, who was born in the Death Star. This is where I am now, as I persuaded Darth Vader to get Wi-Fi connection in my home. I was born on January 28th 0000. If I am correct, the Earth Cycle is 2013 ABY (After Battle of Yavin). So I must be 2013 Earth Cycles old. I am a villain lover, obviously, I grew up with them. I wasn't allowed to go outside my home until I was 4. Granddad Palpatine said it was dangerous. But in the Earth Cycle of 1996, I got hungover with Joel Schumacher and drunkenly gave him the plot for Batman & Robin. So in the Earth Cycle 2004, I blew up Gotham, rebuilt it and told Chris Nolan about it. My favorite villains are my dad, Darth Vader, The Joker form the 2008 event called The Dark Knight and Raoul Silva, whom I met back in M's teenage years. My guilty villain pleasure is Bullseye from Daredevil.
  • Just a quick "hello!" (I never know what else to say but that! :) ) Though Roger Moore is really the Bond of my generation, my father was a huge Connery fan and thus I grew up a huge Connery fan. I think Dalton's outings are heavily underrated and wonder what it would have been like had he done a few more. Never worried about a blond Bond, and when I saw Casino Royale, my only regret was that my father was no longer around to see Daniel Craig. While my father was a cranky old bastard, I think even he would have begrudgingly said, "He's damn good." :)

And I've got to be in DC's corner- we're both massive Liverpool supporters!

Going off of your profile picture, you're 13 years old AND you've seen Brosnan's 'The Matador'? If so, you're leagues cooler than I was at that age.

    I've been here since 11 December 2012 so still quite new. Let me introduce myself. I am Dragonpol. I used to post under the name of SILHOUETTE MAN on CBn and here. I still use this name on AJB and BAB forums, both of which are far superior in terms of the quality of the members than CBn has now become. It is the 'failed state' of the Bond fan community world, especially when it comes to the discussion of the literary James Bond 007. I am interested in many esoteric areas of the James Bond phenomenon and I'm currently researchiong the controversial aspects of the James Bond Continuation Novels from 1966 to 2013. You can read about my Bond work on this specialist blog, The Bondologist Blog here;

    http://www.thebondologistblog.blogspot.co.uk

You can also visit my blog dealing with more lengthy articles of an alternative James Bond nature, The Alternative James Bond Blog, under my Dragonpol moniker here:

Been looking for a place to talk a little Bond now and then. Though I can remember seeing Live And Let Die on TV as a kid, I became a Bond fan with GoldenEye, the movie (and game) that caused me to retroactively seek out and watch all the classic Bond movies and read the Ian Fleming novels. Skyfall recently reinvigorated my interest. I wrote some pieces on the title sequences as a genre of short film for Hasslein Books. I also write my own novels, mostly in the horror, dark fantasy, and western genres. I've written for Chaosium and Lucasfilm among others.

My warmest welcome to all new members.
  • Hello to All:
I have been following this website for a few years now, and have finally decided to join as an official and registered member. My wife and I have both been employed in the entertainment industry for a number of years, and it was my father who took me to the cinema to see "Dr No" for the first time, when I was still a very young lad. Back in 1982, I was the ABC-TV member of staff who was assigned to look after both Roger Moore and Albert R. Broccoli (for 3 days) when "Cubby" was honored with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award at that year's Academy Awards. I can share that they were both consumate gentlemen and a joy to converse with (and who made my life that weekend a whole lot simpler). You have an enjoyable and very informative website here. Keep up the great work.

    Well hello everyone,

I'm kind of new/kind of old here. I used to be a semi-regular poster back on the old MI6 forums (under the same name) from around the production of DAD to a little after the release of CR. Not sure why I quit posting, but when SF came out, I figured it was time to see what the buzz was here. I'm sorry to see the old forums gone, but happy to see many familiar names. So, I have been lurking for about a month and catching up on conversations, and now I'm back to it.

For those who don't know me and those who don't remember me (as I'm sure most don't - like I said: semi-regular poster), my favorite Bond movie is LALD (I get a lot of flak for that, but will happily defend it), and my least favorite is probably TND. I have liked aspects that all of the Bond Actors have brought to the table (even Lazenby: never understood all of the hate). Looking forward to posting all of my thoughts on the series and the lively debates....

See you out there on the forums.

A little too much: time to get back on with life
  • Hello all. I have been lurking in this community for a while now. I love the discussions and the passion for Bond present here. I felt really nervous about joining, but after watching the Eon doc (and having not many other people in my life as fanatical about Bond) I thought I'd join this community.

I've always loved Bond, since I was a kid and read the novels. My first Bond film in the theater was Moonraker, which my older brother snuck me into. I was like 3 or 4). The first Bond I remember seeing was A View to a Kill, which I LOVED. I enjoy all the Bonds on their own terms, but I have a total soft spot for T-Dalt.

I might be the only person here who really likes the Jack White Quan of Sol song. Please don't beat up on me too much.

My favorite themes, however, are 'We Have All the Time in the World' and 'Moonraker'
