If they wanted him that much, then they probably deserved him too.

Anyone have any idea of how much this idea that the public wanted Brosnan also applied outside the U.S.? My recollection was that Brosnan was hardly known in the UK.

Pierce Brosnan is a great actor and was terrific as Bond.

I'd say competent actor instead of great.

I know one of my former work colleagues wanted him as Bond back in the 80s - she's British.

Personally he was a totally unknown quantity. I went into GE with an open mind and came out crestfallen. Having said that I was a Dalton fan, even then.

I beg to differ on the bold part.

    Agreed.

    100% agreed on this.

Someone has to be inferior. Too bad all the others were so good.

    *cough.*Lazenby*cough.*

At least Brosnan actually went to an acting school and tried. Lazenby's dodgy accent sounded almost full American at times.

Atleast Brosnan didn't get dubbed for half of GE. ;)

Movie wise Lazenby has a hell of a batting average though

I still prefer Lazenby. Different strokes for different folks. (Harold Robbins reference)

The issue I have with Laz is that, while he is good with the physical stuff, his voice sounds the same throughout the majority of the film.

Even when Broz is stiff his voice does have a bit more variety than Laz's.

@Thunderfinger. R would probably say that came from "Harold Robinson" ;)

I personally prefer Lazenby too, but I still like Brosnan too. Moore and Dalton are my personal least favorites, but I still like them as well.

Did I say Robbins? That awful awful writer. Pissed on his girlfriend in the bathtub once. Of course I meant Robbinson. Charles Robbins. On.

When Brosnan did finally get the role in '95 I was surprised how well he fit.
I recently watched an episode of Remington Steele and was struck by how funny Brosnan was in it... he REALLY toned that down for his Bond.

I agree with the comment that Craig's tenure has elevated the series again to its 60s heights in terms of quality and pop culture recognition.

Brosnan in hindsight is like Roger Moore without the irony. He's not menacing in any way, not dangerous. They tried but it's implausible. A mean look here, a thoughtful squint there.

They tried to make him human by hurting his shoulder! Come on. Look at how multi faceted Craig's bond is. And the depth of character.

And all the action in Twine is just risible. They had truly run out of inspiration there.

The first half of TND is great though.

There's certainly depth. Not sure how much light and shade there is. I find DC can come across as monotone at times. I thought Brosnan brought a great amount of charisma.

Brosnan had no edge is one of the biggest strikes against him that I often hear.

Brosnan was an awesome Bond. There's a case to be made that he was the best cinematic Bond. He & Dalton are my two personal favourites, even though Connery is the coolest.
