Is "Bond goes Japanese" the silliest thing in Connery's era?

It's so bad that I wanted to punch the screen. What were they thinking? A 6ft, hairy Scotsman donning a wig and makeup, looking like an absolute prat, and people think he's Japanese? They couldn't even be arsed in later scenes and just seemed to forget about it...and for good reason.

He looks Japanese to me. Imagine Moore in that scene...

The silliest thing in the Connery era ( for me) is Blofeld in drag in
    DAF.

Silliest is the slot machine playing elephant and Zambora the gorilla girl.

Could be the weird hand-waving at the end of FRWL.

You could nominate quite a lot of scenes from DAF actually...

Indeed. Although the camp started with the duck, as evidenced above ^

Funnily enough, I thought she was a nice almost " Hitchcock" touch. ;)

I believe Hitchcock even mentioned to Guy Hamilton during a private concersation that he liked the idea about that old woman...

Doesn't help the fact that it is incredibly stupid though...

No, as don't forget it was in the original source novel too. It was Bond being incognito as a Japanese ninja spy so it made perfect sense to me.

Indeed. But when Moore dons the clown suit, it's not OK!

Agreed - I think that it's an inspired bizarre touch in Goldfinger. :)

I think the Bit with Moore dress as a clown trying to stop the bomb, is
    Really very good. =D>

Agreed again, it really ramps up the tension and is the best countdown to destruction scene in the entire Bond film series.

The single silliest thing is the jetpack/waterguns.
    How was it planted?
Why does he bother with a helmet?
It doesn't even FIT in the back.
Where are the 100 gallon water tanks in the Aston?

    ;)

But these were the quirky things that made the Bond films so different and so successful in the first place. What we are calling 'silly' was part of the appeal.

I think the pilot refused to fly the jet pack without a helmet on, they did ask
If he could fly without it but he refused. ;)

I don't get it. Whatever is wrong with that? She shoots a machine gun. So what? Old folks can't fire weapons?

But it's accompanied by one of the greatest Barry cues of all time. Therefore it's exempt.
