    The original rumour came from that "shatterhand" nonsense, so I wouldn't look into it.

    Bond is an investigator, a detective.     I'd define spy more as "obtaining information that one couldn't receive as one self, for a different cause" or simply being professionally disingenuous for an opposite motive. If you think of it that way Bond is definitely a spy. Casino Royale instantly fits that description.

    I agree that MR is near perfection at what it does and what it wants to be. Tonally it's spot on. I was reminded of it recently when I viewed Thor Ragnarok. The same light playfulness pervades that Marvel entry too, and everyone just seemed to be having a similar blast making it.

    MR feels like an underrated classic compared to much of what we've had since 1989. Gilbert knew what he was doing alright. It does all get a bit silly but the space stuff is actually quite beautifully designed and shot.

    Got to see a 35 mm print of MR on the big screen a few years ago as part of a Bond marathon. In the cinema with an audience, it really does work. MR is a lot of fun.

    I bet the boat chase right before Bond arrives at Drax's/the space finale look stunning in theaters.

    I just can't get into MR. It's a real epic for sure and has some brilliant scenes but it just feels like a bit of a slog to get through to me because I find it so by the numbers. One of the only Bond films that I actually find boring.

    Its sheer entertainment. The film of the series where you really can see every penny up on the screen. A joyous romp.
