All the SUPERMAN IV deleted scenes with the original Alexander Courage score restored to them. This is how they should have been presented on the bonus features, instead of with that awful temp music that sounded like something from an old Nintendo game.

    That was a fun watch.

Yeah. I'd never seen all the scenes before. I'd even purchase a Blu ray of the movie with the scenes added back in, but it's not something I yearn badly for.

There were a few scenes that I have not watched previously and I have a few different Superman sets.

I would love to see some kind of assembly cut, Lacy needs more screen time.

Superman IV will always have its issues though I am fond of the film and the extra scenes do add more rather than take away from the movie.

I was an assistant editor on Superman IV. The full version was superior, it all made sense and played well. Warners insisted on the brutal cuts and, due to the tight release schedule, there was no time to complete a final full sound mix etc. of the longer version for the international markets.

I rectal our previous conversation, I really hope Warner even with unfinished special effects shots do an assembly cut, it make so much more sense narratively with the deleted scenes added.

Sadly, I don't think Warners will ever spend money on fully restoring Superman IV, after all they were the studio, back in the day, which demanded the severe cuts for the US/N. American release, which they were handling.

    Good point, one can hope.

I recall the cuts were down to a shorter film getting more screenings per day.

Right. The testing was supposedly disastrous, so cutting it down was sort of a desperate act to salvage it for box office purposes, only that ended up making the movie near incomprehensible.

It wasn't to fit in more daily screenings, it was because we previewed the full cut in LA and the audience score was lower than expected and Warners, perhaps in panic, ordered the big cuts the very next day, getting the VFX editor, who was out there for the previews, to physically cut the scenes from the work print. Then they screened the shorter version (even as rough as it was) to another preview audience (younger, I think) and got slightly higher scores. How and why that happened with an inferior cut of the film, I just don't know. Perhaps because it was a younger audience less familiar with Superman?

I can imagine how Nuclear Man#1 might've lost some of the audience, he's possibly a bit too broad.

Yes, NM 1 was not exactly subtle.

SUPERMAN IV was supposed to be a sort of return to the tone of the first two films, after the relatively disappointing SUPERMAN III putting off audiences with its emphasis on broad comedy. So it’s odd that they went with the Nuclear Man 1 that we see in those deleted scenes, as he wouldn’t be totally out of place in SUPERMAN III.

Now I’m just thinking how much the budget would have been saved if they just didn’t film any of that material. The street fight couldn’t have been cheap. It’s not on the same level as the street fight on SUPERMAN II, but there’s a lot of stunt work, cars getting crushed, and at one point Superman is flung through a semi truck (hi Burger King!).

I lost interest in the show early in Season 2 though I did inadvertently watch the season 3 finale last week which peaked my interest. I was planning to work my way through season 2 and 3.

I watched the SDCC trailer which was the fight, it looked a bit rough.

At least there was a fight, the Smallville showdown ended way too quickly, season 8 was by far my worst season of Smallville.

Superman sends rocket into space | Superman (3 Hour TV Version)

My favorite edit of the scene, Superman reaction to the rocket dodging him is gold.

If the new Superman film has a scene half as good as this I will be happy, this scene still amazes me. Arguably John Williams best work on this score.

Christopher Reeve is so good he makes everything he does feel real.

I have said it many times I wish we had got Donner's planned series, it would have been the greatest.

Donner being removed is for me the biggest crime in cinema.

Superman 2 - Lois shoots a gun at Clark

The acting is phenomenal in this scene, Margot is Lois.

Damn the Salkinds! Their own evil and greed killed Superman as a movie series to this day. They could have been Superman’s Cubby and Harry, but being too cheap and greedy killed their own chance at succeeding. I heard that Tom Mankiewicz was going originally direct Donner’s version of Superman 3, with Bizarro, Brainiac and Supergirl all appearing. Alas, they went with a guy they owned money to, who never heard of Superman. It bombed, and all three kind of deserved their criticism for Superman 3. Now, we’re stuck Lex and Zod as villains trying to keep recapture Donner’s magic. I wish I could make my own Superman movies, I think you would like my story ideas. I have a few screenplay ideas written down. Maybe for Superman’s 100th birthday.

I have had surrogate parents in my life, I relate to Kal.

I can relate to Superman as well. I’ve always felt like an alien. Superman is a character for everyone to relate too. And that’s the genius and legacy of the character.

Hope. It has been in short supply. And in the absence of hope, it’s too easy to let despair creep in. But in times of trouble, myself – and countless others like me – look to heroes who can provide a beacon of light, guiding us out of the darkness...

I decided to give Superman and Lois another go and binge watched season 2, it is a bit out there at times especially the Bizzarro stuff though it had some pretty good Superman moments.

The CGI is rough at times its clear they are trying to do more than they did in Season 1 with Super being show downs etc I like they way the series ended as it opened up a lot more potential for the show going forward, I will try the binge watch season 3 over the next few days then I am ready for the final season..

@MaxCasino I'm hoping you can verify something for me: a friend who is in production swears to me that Superman's dog, Krypto will be explored in this new film.

    He swears he's not kidding.

Last time I looked at the date it's not April 1st.

As far as you know, realizing you have nothing to do with this production, but you seem to be one of the most well researched, and actively interested Superman fan I have access to... Is this true?
