Just saw it last night (it is what compelled me to seek out this site), there was just so much that happened that was relevant to Bond history past, present, and future, and it all smoothly played together. To me arguably one of the best Bond's ever.

The parliamentary enquiry was one of my favourite bits. Especially as we know from recent years they can provide real drama.

I loved Helen McCorry snarky MP. Obviously this is a rare bit of power and she makes the most of it by carpeting M and going to far. Mallory has to pull her into line. She reminds me of Harriet Harman/person.

I love that quote from Mallory. "Just for the sake of variety. Can we acutally hear from the witness?

Keep in mind, many fans listed Brosnan's films among the top 5 or 10 at the time they came out, and I recall a few members here reminiscing about how they had said DAD was the "best Bond film ever", but now place it near the bottom of the list.

I think time will be hard on Skyfall, and I already place it below Casino Royale and it falls just within the limits of my Top 10 Bond films for the time being.

    Current rankings of all three:

    6. Casino Royale
    10. Skyfall
    18. Quantum of Solace

I saw the film, amazing. Also I compared Skyfall to the Dark Knight.

I just saw the movie (it opened yesterday in the US) and thank God it was way better than QOS. The first interesting thing I found was the opening credits. Starting in the moment Bond is shot by Eve, at the train... then he falls into deep waters and the credits roll on with the song––the whole thing looked like a copy of the opening credits for Ultimate Avengers (2006-animated movie), were Captain America falls into the icy waters as the opening credits roll on with the main title theme. A segment of that can be seen here, at minute 2:37. The video ends right before the music starts:

After seeing it a second time, I feel that the film was better than QoS - much, much better plot than QoS, though I think I prefer the action in the latter film - but it wasn't nearly as good as CR.

    CR
    SF
    QoS

i meant to go see it again tonight, but was too tired and ended up dozing off lol... seeing a film that i have been anticipating for such a long time, usually means that on first viewing, i am so enraptured by the moment, that sometimes i forget a movie is actually going on lol - like i am watching the movie, but in my head i am playing a mental connect the dots to all the info about the movie that i have read, spoilers, cut scenes, etc etc that i forget sometimes to pay 100% attention to the movie... this was the case with CR as well... so i can't figure out yet where it falls on my list as of now..... but if i had to put it anywhere... it would go..

    1. From Russia With Love
    2. Casino Royale
    3. Goldfinger
    4. Skyfall
    5. Thunderball

i think a lot had to do with hype surrounding this movie as well - kind of like TDK and TDKR for me - sooo many people gushing about how fantastic it was that it heightened my expectations, so when i saw them i was like "they are good, but not the best i've seen." ..... the difference is though for me with SF, i think it's a terrific Bond movie - just still not the best one I've seen - for me, it'll be hard to supplant FRWL or CR out of the #1 and #2 spots.... but SF has enough in it for me that right now warrants it a place in my top 5... i couldn't put it past GF right now - and i personally think it a tad more taught and thrilling than TB, so thats where it goes, in between lol..

a couple questions though that did confuse me a bit maybe someone could be kind enough to answer..

    1. When Bond tails Patrice to Shanghai, who is the man that Patrice shoots across the way in the other building with Severine? - and why?... again, maybe i got lost in the moment, but I am not sure if it was ever addressed who that man was, or why Patrice (obviously working with Silva) would want the man dead...

    2. What the hell does Silva say to Bond after he shoots him on the ladder? "Not bad.. not bad James for a.. (( what the hell does he say here?? lol )).."

i voted for Second Best in the Craig Era - after Casino Royale..

its a damn fine movie, and the fact that i put it in the same company as FRWL, CR, GF and TB (according to my ranking) really says something about it..

Of course CR had the story by Fleming and felt reminiscent of the early films, and I enjoyed that. I was sold on Daniel Craig from the fight in the bathroom. But Le Chiffre wasn't really scary. I like my villains bug nuts. QoS went a bit astray of what we expect from a Bond film, some say too much, I know. But Craig carried it well.
Concerning Skyfall, I loved Silva and the story felt very Bond, very satisfying. Perhaps the producers were mindful that QoS was a bit out there and made more of an effort to anchor the film, to give it more familiarity. It was interesting delving into Bond's past, explaining his motivation, and I consider the character fully developed now, as is Daniel Craig's interpretation. Kincade was an outstanding touch, and I even like Q. Call me slow but M's demise took me by surprise. I think the ending, back in THAT office, with Bond, Moneypenny, and a new M, could lead right into the beginning of Dr. No.

i don't know if you are using that as hypothetical(? not sure of the correct wordage to use lol)... but CR QOS and SF are not prequels - nor is Dr. No or any past movie under consideration to be remade....

just like Nolan's Batman films - they severed the ties, and started anew..

  • Best of the three without a doubt.

    1. SF
    2. QOS
    3. CR

You are correct, of course. My imagination found a link, being in that familiar office with the familiar characters. I could see it happening. That doesn't mean that they must or should loop the saga. Just that they succeeded in continuity with Skyfall IMO.

I find the idea that there is no connection between the old films and the reboot hard to swallow. How does EON explain the DB5 and the fact that they've now resurrected the iconic M office. I think frankly it doesn't actually matter too much but as fans we are free to create whatever timeline works for us. In my mind, the DC era is telling the story of early Bond, and then SF is a mid-career crisis movie. Frankly, there was little serious continuity before CR, so the reboot hasn't bothered me in the slightest, although I do find it slightly annoying when EON try and tell us how the films relate (or don't relate) to each other.
  • For me, not just best of the three, but the James Bond film I enjoy the most.

There is connection. Characters & artifacts (tributes).

We have the classic office back, so what's the problem now?

Thank you, Murdock. I just voted.
  • I just voted it as the best of the Craig trilogy, which is currently leading and may not be beaten

It's way ahead of Solace, and indeed better than Royale, although still not the best James Bond film there ever was, but it was a close run thing in the end

I can't comprehend why some people hate it. Did you watch it with your eyes shut, or not even bother going in to theaters to even view it ? It's really a very good Bond release

    Bizarre
  • Watched it for the first time last night. The expectation was huge and it delivered. The opening sequence was amazing. Epic in fact. Adele's theme song I love. Perfect sound for a Bond theme. No one else could have done it better. The gun barrel I would have loved at the start but ultimately it doesn't really matter. The look of the movie for me was the stand out. The cinematography was brilliant. Best of any Bond film. It was a strong script and acted well by everyone including the newbies who will carry the franchise forward. Very hard to compare the three films. But for me this had everything. Skyfall was the most serious attempt to dramatise the Bond character. The exploration into character development was worth it. Silva was the perfect villain. Sad to see JD go, but RF will be just as good. Great to see the old office return at the end. The hole idea of a re-boot is complete spin though. As new directors, writers and characters come on board their interpretations will be different but the essence of Bond will remain. I am sure the DB5 will be back, just as Q and Moneypenny have returned. Cannot wait for the next instalment. Long live James Bond. Happy 50th. For the record 1.Skyfall 2.Casino Royale 3.QOS
