Ok I'm fine if it turns out that there won't be a traditional press conference but if this broadcast turns out to not reveal the title cast and crew and plot sypnosis then I am going to be pissed!

So this 2-day broadcast special via GMA/GMB doesn't look like it's complementary to the press announcement, but rather the substitute. Ok then.

EDIT: Beat me to it @Pierce2Daniel.
I wonder what happened between @JamesPage and EON. MI6-HQ never posted snarky tweets like this during the making of Skyfall and Spectre...

I don’t think the issue is between MI6-HQ and EON. The tweet suggests that this press approach is more Universal’s doing than EON. I think that Universal has done some major changes in it’s press approach compared to how Sony did it because Universal has shut everyone out so far but I believe @marketto007 mentioned that he had a good relationship with Sony.

But if this whole thing is Universal's doing, why are they allowing the US coverage to be on a channel owned by Disney, and not their own morning show?

I'd say this is more MGM's doing than Universal. Remember, MGM has the distribution rights for the US, so they probably decided to air the segments on ABC rather than NBC.

How to piss off your new distributor in 2 simple steps...

GMA has far more of a track record when it comes to film marketing stuff - all the Disney/Marvel/Star Wars trailer launches and cast appearances etc. So going for it over TODAY in the US makes sense and I'd think Universal would be understanding, as the US side of things is fully on MGM/UAR. GMB here in the UK is an odd one, though as I mentioned previously maybe BBC (who had the Skyfall teaser) or Sky wouldn't take it.

If anything the odder thing is doing this whole thing anyway, though I guess maybe they know the younger demos and the online communities will be so preoccupied with Endgame and GOT that it's pointless to compete with that. Bond's core audiences after all do skew older, for which traditional broadcast TV makes more sense...early marketing activity like this is usually intended for that core.

To be honest I've no issue with it being merely a press release with the potential for some exclusive following interviews, hopefully where people ask more pertinent questions in a more relaxed atmosphere. I've rather been off put from full on press conferences due to the live cringey nature of journalists - who have done little to no background research of the franchise - asking such important and life shattering questions of whether an actor will be dying their hair. Regardless I think this announcement (or lack thereof official announcement) demonstrates not that there has been a lack of planning, But what a fair few people have been saying all along, that this whole thing is being tightly, covertly but necessarily stage managed. After all, Eon didn't just decide last week to announce the film in Jamaica, likely in Goldeneye, off the cuff. This is all being done for a reason, And it's clearly long been in the planning.

This new development throws out a lot of my previous suggestions concerning the timezone.

If this is true, then I imagine they may well have started principal photography in Jamaica and both GMA/GMB have been invited to the set to watch the filming and interview the cast.

Those interviews would need to happen today to be prepared for broadcast for Thursday and Friday.

However..............this is too odd a situation to be feasible. I believe that perhaps those networks have some kind of exclusive, but a Bond launch usually makes international news. This approach will almost certainly limit the impact of the news making headlines in such a busy week for film news.

I'm not calling it 'fake news' yet. But MI6 have been very spotty/wrong over the production of Bond 25.

I suspect that is the case here.

See, I don't think it will limit the impact, it only changes who announces first. Instead of EON/MGM/Universal on their own channels, GMA and GMB broadcast first

Well, I'm thinking it would be a bit awkward to interview just the known cast and crew and not reveal a title or sort of a synopsis. I mean, what would they say that would be of interest? We're filming a new one. It's all secret. Happy to be here - and all that. And to top it off, Daniel would have a cap on and we wouldn't even be able to discuss his hair ;)

Nah, I think they'll spill some beans. Hoping they will, anyways.

Another thing to throw cold water over the MI6 story - they claim that GMB will air the exclusive first tomorrow morning.

Nonetheless, GMB did not trail anything today or post anything on Twitter about a reveal.

I'm sure you would agree that is most odd for a company that has such a big 'exclusive' on their hands. All they have posted is that previously shot 2015 ad which aired once last week.

Maybe they have nothing to say or show right now and simply been invited to a private / exclusive press conference

I've just popped in to see a lot of confusion here. So it's not an actual press conference per se, then? It's more of a televised announcement on a couple of weekday morning programmes that specialise in breaking stories and news updates? Either way, I'm not disappointed as I never actually liked these big press conferences to begin with. The movie is still a long way from appearing in theatres, so anything that's discussed at this stage is going to be rather trite. Just a title, a simple synopsis with the addition of a few new cast members is all I really ask for. Maybe they can also put this rumour of Dua Lipa singing the title song to bed as well? The rest they can keep one big secret until the trailer arrives.

Perhaps the live press conference approach is old fashioned in the internet era. I guess it's not really necessary these days when everything ends up online. Once the interviews and title go on tv they'll appear online. Another reason might be the location. It's easier and more cost effective to get British journalists to go to Pinewood rather than send them out to Jamaica for a very short junket lasting a day?

They can call the event whatever they want, I don’t care, but they absolutely MUST release the following information this week:

    - the title of the movie
    - the main cast
    - the main crew
    - filming locations
    - a short synopsis

I have two competing theories asto why this is happening this way

Either A) universal hates the title and refuses to promote it hence the more grass roots approach (which makes me wonder if my wildest dreams are true and Bond 25 is The Hildebrand Rarity)

    The second is

They don’t have a title yet.. now this isn’t uncommon in the modern era indeed both die another day and quantum of solace first confrence/press release had no title because well they didn’t have one yet. It could be they haven’t decided on a title and Thursday and Friday we will get the other beats cast locations some broll footage etc but no title

Either way I leave for work around 7:20 each morning so if we don’t get the title by then I am staying off here and watching good morning America with my wife when I get home as for the last Craig bond film I want to go into the Press conference (which I am still calling it that) unspoiled

So if the title is leaked early can someone pm me a simple get off the forum now message thanks

Maybe they can't get Rami Malek before a couple of months and they preferred to show pre-taped segments where he was filmed in New York, rather than having a noticeable empty chair at a press conference at this point.

Rami Malek was in New York yesterday for the Time 100 event.

    So…..he isn’t in Jamaica. Yet.

It feels to me that if Malik isn’t at the announcement – there is no sense in doing a ‘big glitzy reveal’. He is by far the most buzzworthy star attached to this film.

I’m starting to think that tomorrow is going to be an utter washout.

So have all flights from New York to Jamaica been cancelled today? ;)

Just been channel surfing in the UK and I see Sky Movies Premiere and a number of their other movie channels have a half hour Bond 25 Announcement programme pencilled in for Thursday 25 April at 1pm. Need proof? Check out the pic of my TV I just took on the James Bond Radio Facebook page under visitor posts. You’re welcome! I’m as excited as everyone else here to see what Bond 25 will be called and the direction that Fukunaga is going to take the film in...

Confirmed: Bond25 announcement happening at 1:10pm GMT 25 April 2019

    yQHBphp_d.jpg?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&fidelity=medium

Please ignore MI6’s news article from last night. As suspected, they were wrong.

This syncs with my previous logic as 1:00pm GMT is 7:00am in Jamaica. Currently all indications are the press conference is on and @MI6 (once again) got it wrong
