I'm still holding out hope DC returns for one more, although it seems highly unlikely at this point.

Why do people keep saying this? He's still Bond. That's really the only fact we have at this point.

But he doesn't seem willing to do another.

So why hasn't he quit yet?

I think it's important for all to remember that EoN control the legitimacy of pivotal Bond news and if Craig has quite or if he hasn't, only EoN will announce it much to the frustration of many...when THEY are ready to do so.

Which basically means he hasn't quit yet.
Not necessarily, but not officially, yes.

It's official once it's announced and only then. He may have told them he's done and is just playing along as the good soldier he is, until they are ready to roll out his successor and make announcements, whenever that may be. It doesn't hurt him to still be James Bond, even if for self-marketing purposes, and it doesn't hurt them either.

By that standard, it wasn't "official" that Ben Whishaw was playing Q until Eon announced it in the summer of 2012, even though he had *filmed all his scenes* for Skyfall. The casting had been disclosed much earlier by Whishaw's agent, but Broccoli and Craig denied it as late as the spring of 2012, with Craig saying, "All agents are liars." Well, not in this case.
  • Is Craig even contracted for Bond 25? And if yes, what does it even prove? For all we know B25 could be an optional film for him, so until he/EON officially confirms his involvement, we're back to square one.

Michael Wilson said no in late 2015 during an interview, though he said he thought Craig would be back.

Scott Mendelson of Forbes, (in)famous around these parts for his scattering review of Spectre has some own speculations.
Mind you, this is completely guesswork on his side but at least it is more interesting then reading about Elba, Turner and Hiddleston again:

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2016/07/21/disney-should-grab-the-james-bond-series-to-keep-it-away-from-the-competition/#7f6b256536b4

But I gotta admit, he makes some valid points. I think that it would be somewhat beneficial for Bond to be under a bigger clout, with strong financial backing and a with powers to pull an even further audience.
May it be Disney or someone else, I think Bond would do good being under someone other than Sony/MGM.

I've made a few posts about Disney potentially having the Bond rights and the good definitely outweigh the bad, contrary to what some folks around here think. However, contrary to what the article says, Disney do NOT need Bond at all. Their divisions of live action movies, animation, Lucasarts films and Marvel films kill the notion of them having any real competition. In the last 8 months alone and with 5 films Disney have made roughly around $6 Billion. Bond isn't needed. Disney have already cemented themselves as the tentpoles Kings. Star Wars alone makes sure of that.

Correct. Disney do not need Bond, as I've been saying for some time.

Disney has the top 3 highest grossing films of the year (with STAR WARS still to come).

If anything I'd like to see lionsgate.

You have to feel a bit sorry for Elba as he has just been hijacked by the trendy liberals to push their 'we must have a black Bond' agenda.

He's never really courted it I don't think but also he hasn't been that quick to rule himself out until now; probably because he'd love the job - and who can really blame him for that.

He's done alright out of the Bond rumours though as this is what he is chiefly famous for. He has an A-list profile despite having a far from A-list CV and this seems to be thanks in no small part to being constantly linked with Bond.

    This.

And those pushing for Elba to be Bond are (sort of) inverted racists. So keen to prove themselves to be non-racist that they actually end up being racist towards there own kind.
If I was Elba I would be slightly insulted if anything, watching these pathetic 'trendy liberals' as Wiz puts it cheering me on for no other reason than I'm a black actor in a white actors world. I'm sure talent and ambition will carry Elba further and he doesn't need a baying group of useless journos fighting his corner to play Bond.

Barbara Broccoli is hoping to convince Craig to return - The New film won't arrive untill late 2018 at earliest.

This is seemingly confirming what we all suspected. Babs wants Craig back. There's no firm release date but it's either 2018 or 2019. All the "next Bond" hype is a little too early.

In other news, I saw High-Rise last night and was more convinced of Hiddleston's performance in that film than the Night Manager. He had a certain elegance and insouciance reminiscent of a young Connery, especially in the way he smokes his cigarettes and flirts with Sienna Miller.

In fact, the combination of Hiddleston, Miller and Jeremy Irons in a Bond film would be terrific.

Thanks for posting. And like @NicNac I agree that does make sense now. I think many already suspected that but like just as many really didn't want that to be true. That is that B25 is not expected until at least 2018.

That and also that Craig's return is still an uncertain.

On the other hand which maybe just what I am reading into the interview is that Broccoli is more cautious and rethinking with potential script development. Not that time is the answer.

I remember now that the new EoN occasionally needs to focus on other non Bond projects. Didn't we have those same rumblings in interviews post DAD? Not sure.

Anyway gear up for a wait. I can just image the life this thread is going to take.

This doesn't confirm anything, as The Sun is quite possibly the least reliable tabloid site there is. Regardless, thanks @Pierce2Daniel for keeping us informed as always.

With the picture of Barbara posted up front, I was hoping that we actually got a quote from her confirming the wait, the need to prep a script and the big intent to get Craig back above all, but we're left with just more empty speculation dressed up as tabloid prophecy.

It doesn't confirm anything, no. But it makes sense. BB is going to be tied up, Craig is non committal, nothing much is happening. 2018 is almost certainly the date for B25 and Craig will have first refusal.

They may screen test people, but it will be down to Craig to officially jump ship

As always your condesending is most appreciated.

Sorry but I showed Amanda (my wife) a video "best moments of Eames" (Hardy's character in inception) and she agrees he could make a brilliant Bond.

Oh well, that changes everything. I used to think that Hardy would be a terrible Bond, but if Risico007's wife says he could make a brilliant Bond I guess I'll have to agree with her.

Hardy is a good enough actor that he could play anything he puts his mind to. I'd prefer it be someone else because he's too short (imho) and I'd prefer an actor who can more naturally embody the characteristics I expect from filmic Bond rather than having to 'act' it, no matter how good he is at acting. Call me shallow or old fashioned, but I'm looking for a more traditional filmic fit next time out.

Glad everyone now agrees with my wife... No I was telling that story as she is far from a bond fan (she has only seen the four Craig era films she liked Casino Royale and Quantum but didn't like Skyfall or Spectre) and that casual fans could take to Hardy easily...

Like I said with no official news except for the 2018 thing which we all already knew there is nothing else much to discuss...

While I would love for Craig to return I am slowly moving on from him and trying to get more excited about another actor

Is 2018 referring to the year or the amount of pages this thread will be before the film is released.

It will be 2018 in my view as well. I think they'd be stupid to wait unit 2019. You don't want others to redefine the space that belongs to Bond, especially after the derivative nature of SP. They need to come out bold and strong with something fresh and as innovative as CR or GE. I'm for the soft reboot, and in 2018 at the latest.

But like I said before since they are in no rush to start making Bond 25 then there sure as hell no excuse for them not to be working on a fantastic script during this downtime.

A quality script is always desirable whether two or twenty years. Just need a good idea that inspires them instead of an idea and draft that frustrates everyone to fix. (I'm looking at you Logan ...you too P&W but it's just my eyes twitch when trying to stare at so many.)
