    Updated score (20th Dec):

    Skyfall__: IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII 25
    SPECTRE: IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII 41

If I calculated correctly it is 26 to 43 now.

Anyway, I'm surprised. Reading the threads I got the impression it would be the other way around.

Spectre is better. It's actually full-on-Bond, for a change.

Perhaps those who dislike it are just more vocal.

True. Let's see what the rankings say...70 MI6C ranks since Spectre

    6th SF 1143
    9th SP 1067
    (24 points for a 1st ranking)

    Reasonably close.

Well, I have only been back 3 days, so my impression of which movie is more liked is not representative of course. Maybe Birdleson influenced my perception :))

That ranking result wonderfully reflects the box office result as well.
Spectre came close to Skyfall, but no cigar. :))

Sorry I misread your post. You meant you thought Skyfall would be more liked which is true

The poll was started when SPECTRE was fresh. Many have turned since.
  • Wait, the majority of forum voters think SP is a better film? Really?

Agreed. It has turned a little, as expected, as can be seen from the other thread.

This is a Bond forum after all, and SP is the latest and " "..... (I'm not saying it).

More vocal indeed. A few members have posted thousands of posts trashing the film so relentlessly that most of those who liked the film, just stopped reading and posting on the SP threads because they were so one sided It was a waste of time. Now some of the same SP haters are going after Craig and want him dumped. Beware of what you wish for.

  • 1. SF - it had a strong story, logically developed & well told
    2. SP - after a breathtaking opening sequence that promised so much, it descended into a muddled story with too many illogicalities - the result of too many screenwriters? - & failed to live up to its pre-release hype. A hugely disappointing follow-up to SF.

Can't disagree with that. Spectre is the Bond that I wanted from Craig when he was cast.

I think that's quite true. Offering up positives seemed a fruitless exercise to me.
  • If this "vocal" stuff is directed at detractors like me, I've been very vocal about offering up positives in SP as well.

@ThighsOfXenia, I'm quite familiar with the usual suspects in question, and you don't pop up in my mind as one of them.
  • @0BradyM0Bondfanatic7 Well I have written quite a bit about my problems with it, but I think mostly that was because I had such high hopes. But I also tried to spend a lot of time saying "hey this was awesome" as well. Because it isn't like I hate the movie - not by a long shot.

Not necessarily "better", just favorite. Personally I couldn't stand a third rewatch of SF, whereas I have already seen SP eight times. So yes... SP has to be better. For me!

Oh oh. This thread has been hijacked by the "SF is the best thing since sliced bread, and anyone who says otherwise must be an idiot"-crowd, it seems!

Have you heard the expression "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"?

I have, and I consider it errant nonsense.

  • Watched SP again yesterday.

    It's a draw IMHO.

    @Perilagu_Khan

Nonsense? Is it nonsense stating the fact that taste can't be defined? If I like a vanilla shake more than the strawberry shake, who are you to tell me, that I should like the strawberry shake more?
  • I didn't say taste can't be defined. And I'm not saying a vanilla shake is better than a strawberry shake. I am saying there are good vanilla shakes, and bad vanilla shakes. Likewise there are good and bad Bond movies. You can claim DAD is superior to FRWL, but that doesn't make it so.
  • The mouse scene alone puts SF ahead. Just....silly.

The scene with the mouse is brilliant.

    It was a bit cheesy.

Or did you mean the Topolino scene?

SP has a few problems, that I won't deny, but none of them upset my overall enjoyment of the film. The more Bond-like feel of SP was more than enough to counter whatever problems that I had with it.

The mouse scene belongs up there with the great moments in cinematic history.

Apparently the mouse has stated he'd sooner slash his tail than star in another Bond movie!
