    It was quite Fleming. In MR the novel, Bond never sleeps with Gala Brand.

    I think if they had shagged it would have had to have been cold and "in the moment". Not the playful stuff between Bond and Fields.

    Apart from DN, FRWL, GF, TB and OHMSS.....The books are better than the films.

    I'd add CR to that list. Regarding FRWL and OHMSS I think both film an novel is on the same level. Top notch level.

    For me FRWL is the only Bond film that MIGHT be better than the novel. I think Bond gets out of his situation with Grant in a far more convincing way in the film.

    Surviving a fatal wound to the heart thanks to one in a million timing THEN playing dead is maybe stretching things a bit.

    Out of the Connery films, I only identify FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE and GOLDFINGER as top ten material.

    I completely agree.
    My controversial opinion would be:

    "Sean Connery is overrated as James Bond".
    Two pedestrian out of 6 performances as James Bond hardly qualifies one as the "best" to play the role.

    1. We side stepped a land mine with Brosnan not doing a fifth film
    2. Casino Royale is brilliant and is the best bond film
    3. Quantum of Solace is underated
    4. Goldfinger is over rated
    5. Dalton should of been bond in Goldeneye
    6. Why couldn't Liam Neeson's wife be on board with the idea of hims as 007... :(
    7. Pierre Morrell should direct 007
    8. the following directors in spite of doing nothing too close to 007 could of done really strong bond films
    Wes Craven (especially in the 80's for say the living daylights)
    Steven Spielberg (and he still could)
    John Mctiernan
    John Carpenter

    9. Daniel Craig is still my favorite bond film
    10. Skyfall is his weakest bond film but isn't as bad as I once thought
    11. Dame Judie Dench is criminally underrated

    Dr. No has the worst score in the series.
    If there is an overrated Bond actor, it is Connery.
    LTK has the best gunbarrel cue.
    Craig is the best actor to have ever appeared in a Bond film (ooooh).

    Actually, I don't mind DN's score (although it is a little too loud at times), and I certainly don't hold it against it.

    I did a lengthyish review of DN a while back now detailing why I think it's more of a curio, nothing particularly spectacular.

    I'm a big Doctor Who fan, particularly of the revived era, but I would never say "ROSE" is the epitome of Doctor Who..

    Dr No will always be a favourite of mine! It oozes class and elegance, it is perfectly paced and directed, and Connery excells with this brutal, intens portrayal of Bond, the most hard edge and Flemingesque take he ever did on the character. Bond is a proper spy in this film, and the character introduction and the killing of professor Dent are two standout scenes in the series. An eternal classic!

    The idea that QoS is underrated and GF overrated is gubbins IMO. I would consider both of these a massive case of contrarianism and nothing more.

    On the other hand, I don't think DR. NO will ever be a favourite of mine. Unevenly paced with many an instance of filler, such as the out of the blue car chase, the film also suffers somewhat from its own amateurism, evidenced by the silly tarantula scene that it's robbed of any suspense it might have had due to the fact tarantula are harmless (and of course, the loony tunes sound effects), and moments of incredulity, such as Bond crawling through a series of pipes accompanied by strange sounds (?). A commanding performance by Connery and some iconic scenes don't make up for the fact that elsewhere, the film is pretty vanilla.

    With a more engaged Connery, Aki's death would have been one of the standouts of the series.

    I beg to differ; Bond is on to Kissy real fast- lamenting over Aki's death too much would have made his moves on Kissy seem even more ridiculous.

    Right there with you! I'm one of the few who prefers it to FRWL. It's such a classic.

    Here's one:

    I like the character of Mary Goodnight and I like the way Britt Ekland plays her.

    I'm not normally a fan of the dunces (and personally can't stand Lupe, Rosie Carver, Bibbi etc.) but I love Goodnight.

    And to add further insult to injury, I like TMWTGG. A lot. So there.

    Its obvious that you're young & started Bond films w/Roger Moore.
    I'm a fan of Moore's 007 as well, in fact they all deserve a place in the 007 history.
    Now, many youngsters see stunts of earlier films & think they're boring, and you think the ski stund is not much. At the time, it was considered by other stuntmen as the world's greatest stunt. I can say that it's a daring-hard stunt and bravo!. I don't see the point in tearing down other people's work. Its not a contest.
    Jaws served his role with excellence. The gentle giant.
    Although Brosnan's last DAD, has one of the best intros, (007 caught, tortuted, walking into a luxury hotel wet & looking like a hobo, "My usual suite, please!") the CGI destroyed the film & the crew + fans.
    Quantum needs our understanding, as the writer's strike was on & a film had to be delivered. Yes weak story, but had great fight sequences, good driving, and the tension between M & Bond. This is the first time in any Bond when he kills the guy in the Hotel room after stabbing him in the common carotid artery & femoral artery & holding the killer down till he bleeds to death, where 007 is a cold blooded assassin. A hard moment, as for a second, you dislike the man. Daniel Craig's Bond is not a likeable person. He's a killer, thus 00. "I have no friends" he says.
    NSNA does not belong in this forum. Its a remake of Thunderball but who is Bond if not Cubby Broccolli? His vision his dream, & with the exception of Lazenby, all choices were the best.
    Before you try to compare, know this: Roger was considered before Sean, BOTH played their role superbly. Sean as Sean, Roger NOT like Sean, but with his style & humor (and very close to Flemming) Pierce was considered before Dalton, BOTH played their role superbly, as does Daniel Craig, thanks to Michael Wilson & Barbara.
    Now the juice: I like Idris Elba, but NOT for BOND. Why? Cause 007 is a WASP prefferebly English, definetly NOT GAY, and NOT politically correct. Anyone that thinks otherwise is an enemy of the franchise. (By ignorance, of course) Amy Pascal: "Stay away from EON & Danjaq, go produce other films"
