The Craig era is unique, as only one title song shares the title with it s film. Earlier, that was an anomaly.

I actually don't like that. The name of the songs should be instantly recognisable as Bond themes.

I think it's lack of creativity nowadays or even laziness.
When Duran Duran can come up with a song called A View To A Kill and make it arguably the best ever, or a-ha name their song The Living Daylights or Crow sings Tomorrow Never Dies...etc.
And in all those songs the actual title of the movie is in the lyrics, respectively chorus.

I really wish there would be a song with Casino Royale or Quantum Of Solace in the lyrics of the chorus, would work so much better.

Well, try to make a chorus with Quantum Of Solace or Spectre that doesn't sound ridiculous...it sure is hard work, calling for creativity and it is more comfortable just to do lyrics without trying, hence laziness.

If the stories are connected, can he resist rhyming "wall" and "skyfall" ?

I don't think that putting Casino Royale or Quantum of Solace in the lyrics would by itself improve anything! The title in the lyrics has nothing to do with the quality (or lack of it) of a theme song.

As a side joke, there was a (brilliant) comedy series in Portugal some 25 years ago titled Casino Royal (note the lack of the final e). This was not a Bond spoof, just a series set during WWII in Lisbon, full of spies from both sides of the conflict, a bit like Allo Allo. The title song (sung in Portuguese, German, English and French) managed to include the word Casino, but not Royal.

But, 'You Know My Name' is an incredible song, with perfectly appropriate lyrics considering the film's narrative. Why would a song about a Casino have been better? With QoS, he doesn't find said, 'solace', until the end of the film. Hence why the lyrics weave in a link to CR, rather than shoe-horn in the full title. I think there's a risk of modern Bond songs feeling pastiche, so I'm not averse to artists working on tracks that are derived from the core idea of the movie, rather than the title.

Also, isn't using the title 'laziness' in that sense. Starting with a blank canvas is surely more creative than taking a phrase or word and building a song around it?

No I did say it was extreme after saying that. I'm just annoyed he is doing it and his name is tied to it. I hate him. I also don't like gay's. Sorry just nooo

Well, I've never flagged a post before, so congratulations on being my first. You pillock.

You should get a warning for calling me a pillock. Still offensive and your just as bad.

How do you know who does and doesn't get a warning? Such matters are dealt with privately. And I would also suggest you read the terms and conditions you signed up to when you joined the forum.

Yeah I don't want to see this type of post on here. I too would rather see that guy banned. What does someone's sexuality have to do with the whole thing. In your small mind Gareth a gay singer is not as good as hetrosexual one. What an absolute disgusting creature you are.

Oh dear - can open... worms all over the place.
Let's not get too politically correct around here, it is the bane of modern society. I don't agree with the poster's sentiments but I do think opinions should not be censored, as long as they are expressed in a courteous manner.

Having said that though just saying "I hate Sam Smith" is, although a tad harsh, fair enough - but the singer's sexual preference shouldn't really even come into the equation, I would have thought.

Personally I don't much care for Phil Collins fans. Disgusting people, really...

"I hate gays" is courteous in your mind?

But I don't recall anyone saying that, Sark...

If Sam Smith's song sounds like this... I'll be very happy. This song sounds like it was made for a Craig Bond film!

    Brian McFadden - Demons:

As soon as I heard this track I thought "wow, this is a modern James Bond theme song!" If Sam Smith has a done a song like this, cool! The ending even has a John Barry instrumental type moment!

It was. But let's not dwell. I think he knows it was a stupid thing to say and won't be doing it again.

OK, I wanna have my go at the lyrics, full royalties to me if I'm right!

    Writing's on the wall
there's a SPECTRE in the shadows.
The sky is bound to fall,
    There will be no tomorrows.

Bonus points to everyone who's able to include a NDIB reference :D
  • I'm sick of the release date changing. Just gone on iTunes and it says 28th now for pre order. What is the official date we can listen to the track ???????????????

As long as this is not the norm...
  • Some of the lyrics.

    Writing's on the wall
I see Spectre on them all.

  • edited September 2015 Posts: 1,661

    "The Spectre of defeat,
    Consumes us all,
When the writing's on the wall...
    "

If you play 'writing on the wall' on a piano it's a more or less: "da dah da da dah" - "wri...ting's... on... the wall" - catchy notes for a chorus.

Now the third and final trailer has been confirmed (the first for a Bond film, I believe)...what are the odds that it actually includes the song?

This rather wonderful fan-made Skyfall trailer included Adele's song:

Lyricist Don Black was always able to include the most ridiculous Fleming titles in a wonderful set of lyrics, evoking both ridiculousness and style.

I mean...Goldfinger? Thunderball? Moonraker? He, but also Hal David, were able to do that. And in all honesty, I think I would also be able to include "SPECTRE" somewhere within the lyrics. It's still possible though.

Here is something interesting. Remember those leaked Sony emails about Dan and Mendes not keen on using a Sony mobile as they are "not the best" and Bond would only use "thee best". Apple have a major announcement tomorrow. Could there be a Sam Smith/Bond and Apple collab on the cards here? is it plausible Apple are about to announce another slimmer Iphone 6 or a new Iphone 7 and that Bond could be seen with one in Spectre. mmmm! I doubt it but the timing the coincidental timing is food for thought.

Not into garage-house at all. So let's hope their production assistance was relatively small, and that a big, grand orchestra did all the instrumental support.

I beg to differ if its Apple then its ITunes, and if there is something to it we may get a snipped at the launch. Therefore it is relevant to the topic.

About iTunes and Apple I wondered myself.

Today is the keynote where numerous new products will be presented to the world.

Remember last time? U2 and Apple have given all iTunes user the free gift of U2's new album. That was a huge, huge marketing coup for U2 and Apple.

I think it garnered as much bad publicity as good - as many people who HATE U2 woke up to find an album they really didn't want show up on their iPhones!
