    I really don't think we can base Skyfall as an example for Bond 24's production. So much of that film was shot at Pinewood and it's impossible for us to know what percentage of Bond 24 production will be the same back-lot work.

    If there are a lot of interior shots based in Austria, that could all be done at Pinewood, and it could indeed be the main location for the film. On the other side of the coin, as @Jake is saying, those two months of production could amount to less than 15 minutes of screen time.

    Since there seems to be a plane crash in Austria, I really think it will only be a 'big event' scene, as with the Turkey shots in Skyfall. So I'm not getting my hopes up for more than 15-20 minutes of screentime in Austria.

    I also am pretty sure Mexico will double for Morocco. Rome/Italy may end up featuring the most. With a British main Bond girl (still unknown, so it may change), we may again see a large chunk of the film set in the UK.
    I really wouldn't mind if London was once again heavily featured. It truly is a beautiful city.

    Me neither, actually. I love London.

    I disagree. There was enough London in Skyfall for three films. They need to minimize the time they spend there in Bond 24 and spend it in other more exotic places...

    Agreed. They need to use it as Fleming would've done, a drab, uninspiring location that signals the tedium of office work, or suppressing that tedium by getting pissed in Blades and such. The escapism of the novels was borne from Fleming's portrayal of London as relatively mundane, countered by a Bond who yearned for adventure. It's relatively simple and I think/hope B24 will follow this path.

    True. In the novels, London is pictured as grey and dreary.

    Me too... two cities I love for the same reasons London and Austin. Great music pubs and food.

    If you live in or near London, you probably think of it as boring. If not
    It's very exciting. :))

    I live in London and it has its pros and cons. It's incredible, but also unremittingly shite in equal measure. In the context of Bond it's his home and thus the launch pad for any ensuing adventure, which is why I believe it should be used sparingly. It should function in the way Privet Drive does in Harry Potter. The familiar, the mundane, the ordinary. The calm before the storm.

    I think the part for Christoph Waltz must be very good as he's turned down
    The latest Tarantion film to do it and so far it's with Tarantion projects that
    He's won his Oscars. ;)

    No, Christoph Waltz did not turn down a role in The Hateful Eight.

    A reminder : from Roger Deakins himself : they chose to use digital on Skyfall because of the low light scenes they planned to do. Just the change back to film again with Bond 24 could mean more about the movie than the dreaded "film vs digital" debate.

    @ Gustav Graves

    Thx for the update. Seems to Austria playing a big part in the movie

    I think it'll be like the UK/Scotland in "Skyfall", Montenegro/Italy in "Casino Royale" and Bolivia in "Quantum Of Solace".
    Those who are certain that Austria will be the main location of Bond 24 will probably end up disappointed, because they are only shooting there for 45 days and are in production there for less than 2 months. But Skyfall had a 3 month production and a longer shoot in Turkey, but the actual country only featured for less than 12 minutes in the film.
    Good point. But don't forget that several scenes later on was also shot while in Turkey, like the beachscenes and the scene on the boat.

    To be honest I can't remember ( I've read so many links to stories about him
    Getting the part ) but I do remember one saying that he's doing Bond instead of the next Tarantino film.

    I think that's an assumption. There have been no casting announcements and very little other news stories about Tarantino's next.

    You've clearly not been keeping up to date on The Hateful Eight, there has been far more cast announcements about that than Bond 24, pretty much all the principal cast were announced some months back and QT starts shooting soon in 70mm.

    Waltz was announced as not appearing sometime back, maybe his involvement in Bond 24 has been in the background a lot longer than all of us would know.
  • @Gustav_Graves: there's no information that they will also shoot at those Austrian hotels. The Hotel Tuffbad will only be used for a stay of cast & crew for sure. So I would not call it "confirmed" - until now confirmed is "only" Sölden, Obertilliach and Altaussee.

    Didn't he call the Grand Hotel Lienz to confirm it?

  • I don't know if it's been mentioned but Waltz and Broccoli were recently judges during the Berlin Film Festival back in February. Do you think they may have spoken about it then?

    Also this video at 23.40 may be of interest, a number of prominent Hollywood scoopers from blogs like The Wrap (who were first to report on Chiwetel Ejiofer's possible involvement) and Latino Review (who first broke the Dave Bautista story) talking about the Waltz casting. They seem to hint that the big story going around is that talks with Ejiofer broke down and that villain role in Bond 24 is Blofeld

    No not yet. I should change that. @JamesBondde is right. I mean, the hotels are used by EON Productions. That is more or less confirmed. But it is not confirmed that they will use one of these hotels for actual shooting purposes.

    Though one might say that the beautiful Grand Hotel Lienz is a bit too beautiful to solely use it for cast/crew, and not for actual shooting.

    I just really wish that EON will make more use of more parts of London that we haven't yet seen in Bond movies.
    They should make use of his beautiful, modern London skyline in Bond 24

    Or maybe make use of London's new Shard building (as some sort of office tower, perhaps?)

    I'm pretty certain about that ;-). And I tell you this. I have become a great admirer of Michael and Barbara. Love Barbara's commentary on "Skyfall". And I really think that the Bond producers have found their mojo. During the Brosnan-era....I could not help but feel that Barbara and Michael were still under the influence of the more risk-less, formularic approach of their (step)father "Cubby". With Craig the Bond producers really own the franchise. Off course with help of brilliant reviews and big (cast & crew) names.

    Also, I've been checking some reactions. On several discussion threads of Tarantino's new movie "The Hateful Eight" Waltz is mentioned. And all of Tarantino's fans are extatic about the news. Not only that, just read all comments about articles that feature the Waltz news. Only wunderful reactions. And because of that Bond has been going viral on the internet quite a bit in the past few days.

    Like "Skyfall", now people (people who are generally not a Bond fan) simply want to see "Bond 24" because of this big name actor. Not to mention Tarantino fans. And in this case the big name is Christoph Waltz. And this makes me think that another 1 Billion Dollar Bond film could be in the making......

    By the way, funny how those movie geeks in the above YouTube video talk about EON Productions. "Everything or nothing....sjee....kewll!". As if it's a Marvel-brand :-P.

    Just watched that clip, if the rumours were true that Chiwetel Ejiofor pulled out of talks of appearing in Bond 24 a few weeks ago then EON had to find replacement sharpish. I have been read that Christoph Waltz turned down Pirates of the Caribbean 5 for Bond and that Javier Bardem is now replacing him. Maybe this is why the announcement was made so close to the filming. Maybe we will have the real story in the commentary.

    Also, anyone else notice that Baz did not mention Dave Bautista in the article. Or perhaps he has very little lines to go through :P

    I want to stay at the Grand Hotel Lienz. It is sumptuous.

    I hope the blofeld rumors are true! Chris Waltz will kill it! It makes sense considering all the comic book movie characters being brought to life in a realistic way. EON will do the same to Blofeld! If I was a betting man ...

    Well after the announcement of Christophe Waltz earlier this week, i am hopeful of waking up to some more official news at breakfast tomorrow morning! :-c ;) :D

    I think it is fairly safe to say Christoph Waltz will play the villain at this point. I am still very skeptical that he will be Blofeld and I think so far rumors about this particular and hypothetical role are entirely speculative. For a simple reason: if indeed he replaces Ejiofor, I find it doubtful that he would play a character with a background so different than Ejiofor could have. I know there can be rewrites, I mean Dock Ock in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movie was supposed to be a young man at some point, but that would be pushing it. It would be something like hearing Dominic West is replacing Idris Elba in the role of Iago... When you know Clarke Peter has been cast in the role of Othello.

    I am still hoping Blofeld is a tiny reveal or hint at the end of Bond 24, not the main villain in it.

    Right now we are far from sure Blofeld will be in at all (and this is from someone who wants to see him return). My hypothesis: either Waltz plays a completely different character and Blofeld is not even mentioned or hinted at in Bond 24, or he does indeed play Blofeld, but it is only revealed at the very end of the movie, à la Moneypenny in SF.

    I just noticed a pattern in the series. If you've noticed, since Goldeneye, there has been a pattern in the series, where every other movie has scenes in Casinos, and every other movie has scenes in hotels.

    Goldeneye->Monaco casino

    Tomorrow Never Dies->Hamburg Hotel Atlantic

    The World is Not Enough->Zukovsky's casino

    Die Another Day->Graves' ice hotel

    Casino Royale->Casino (within a hotel, but still)

    Quantum of Solace->Haitian hotel and Bolivian eco hotel

    Skyfall->Macau floating dragon casino

    Bond 24->Hotel for sure, but Grand hotel Lienz?
