I think it would have changed the whole character of the film, which is arguably Rog's masterpiece. I see where people are coming from, but isn't it missing the point a bit? Spy is a glorious self-homage to Bond in all his campy 70s glory. It has never been done better and arguably EON should never have even thought about returning to that particular formula. But in the context of Spy, Anya is perfection.

I like Spy despite Bach's presence. With a superior Bond girl, Spy would be a classic, IMO.

    Would be a classic?

It's one of my top 5 and because of Barbara, not despite her.

Benny, where do you live, where it is already Tuesday?

Or are you voting in advance - sort of like a postal vote? Is that allowed?

Can I cast my Wednesday vote now?

There are a lot of places that are experiencing Tuesday right now. It's not an advance vote, that would just mess up the flow of the game.

If you live in New Zealand or Australia, Japan, China and India it is already Tuesday.
You don't need a geography lesson I hope.

Err... it was meant as a joke. And also I was genuinely interested to know what timezone Benny inhabits, as most members appear (from what I can tell) to be European and North American based. Spending most of my time living 6 hours behind GMT, I am aware of the basic concepts at play.

Yes, the movie is so OTT, that Bach's casting is not really IMO that grevious, as her character was quite ridulous.
Now when I say ridiculous I mean that in a good way. Spy is one of the great escapist Bond fantasy romps. It is an homage to the Bond potential for grand excess. I do love this film. It does miss Connery's more grounded touch. Rog couldn't bring the danger and suspense elements the way Sean could, but still the movie works as uniquely Bondian. The kind of Bond movie I really miss.
Bach did look very fine in that evening dress. She cut a very nice figure.
I must confess to spending several quality minutes gawking at that actual same dress, which was on display at the Designing Bond exhibit, and I even gave it a little touch, as it wasn't behind glass. Quite the sensation, electric even, as by touching the actual dress I suddenly felt tangibly connected to the film. Like interacting directly with history.
I also did full ogle on Camille's little black dress but it was behind glass so it wasn't quite the same.
I would humbly say that Bach, and Bouquet in FYEO, probably turned in the two most wooden performances for a lead Bond girl in the series, but at least Bach looked fabulous doing it. Bouqet is great looking too of course, but not as slinky as Bach was in Spy.
Personally I think the Bond girls from the first 6 films all belong in their own special rarefied air, as they were all portraying iconic Fleming characters in movies that were produced with the source material very much in mind.
Post classic-era (the '60's), the films took on a different vibe I think, as Bond was now out of his time.

Anya Amasova maybe is a decent character, but Barbara Bach's performance... I'd probably rank it as one of the very worst, if not the worst in the series... Yes, in all honesty. Put Britt Ekland in the same role, and she would have done equally well. Maybe better...

The only scene where Bach's acting is convincing is when she gets hysterically scared of running water near the end... because she wasn't acting, of course... And that is exactly the kind of reaction you would expect from 'Russia's best spy', isn't it? X_X

    Regarding Miss Amasova

She was the first one I saw and I didn't see this again until her TV appearance. She worked well at the time and as Rog looked older her age complimented Moore. She had gained the experience which fitted her station

There was something slavic about her. the dusky skin, the auburn hair, the green eyes. She looks like a Russian peasant. Also there is a quick intelligence there. She is not brash or attention seeking but quiet and well spoken. She knows from her abilities that she is good - but she doesn't broadcast it. Her "exposure" scene is downplayed because we have an actress who plays the scene as it is written. No raging maniac but calm and controlled

Her downplaying the scene fits the character. She swears revenge but in the end she cannot kill Rog. The first bit of Bond girl development since Tracy

I wonder how many are expecting something more? But that isn't her.
