The Ultimate James Bond Marathon 2013

Hi guys, I used to post on the MI6 message boards a lot before the revamp last year but I often come on here to read some of the great opinions about Bond. I hope to use these boards in the coming year more frequently and I'm going to start by doing something that I originally attempted with my Uni mate Sean back in 2007. Some vintage members may remember that I documented our non stop Bond marathon of all the official films from Dr No to Casino Royale. Well, this month I'm going to expand on this and in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the literary Casino Royale I'm going to watch every Bond film solo over 2 days! Yep, no sleep, plenty of caffeine and LOTS of Bond in his many guises!

My schedule is going to be as follows: (start time will hopefully be between 4pm and 5pm on December 27th 2013 and end time about 11pm on Sunday December 29th)

    Well, I don't know why you need to do it on no sleep at all ... I do love a good Bond marathon. But that seems a little too harsh. Best of luck, though!

    We're all devoted Bond fans on here, and I don't think anyone of us would manage this. Last month, I watched the Craig trio in one day, and that was just enough! But, live and let live, have fun, and merry christmas!

    Wow, you are a trooper. You have to really want it to be able to pull this off. I could never make it (nor would I want to) but to each their own.

    Thanks for the votes of confidence guys - managed it once before over about 46 hours so this will be a test but I really wanna do it and I don't wanna do by half either. I've watched a number of marathon videos online including one from America a couple of years ago where they watched up to Quantum of Solace but they had 6-7 hour sleeping blocks in between - defeats the object in my humble opinion. Only a true Bond fan would even consider doing this and you can be assured that I am one of those. I'll think of it as my Everest. Climbing Mount Everest it's not like you can sleep half way up the ascent - this is the same philosophy applied to this for me. :-)

    I could hardly make it through all six Star Wars films, but it seems you're a stronger man than I am. Good luck, and be sure to eat and use the bathroom during your endeavor.

    If I'll do it (but hardly think so), I would have dropped #2, #7 and #17 but I'll be left with the desire to watch Everything or Nothing because some people didn't sell the DVD in the US...

    Here we go.... 3.15pm now on Friday afternoon and watching Everything or Nothing. The Bond marathon commences... intro video on the way soon...

    Good luck, hope you slept late today. Took me a while to figure out the schedule since I'm in the States and I have to compute the time difference, as well as the use of what we call "military time." The easy is to simply subtract 17 if you're in New York or 20 if you're in Los Angeles (thus he'll be watching "Goldfinger" at 4:10 eastern time, 1:10 pacific time). I guess you should be starting "Dr No" right about now.

    Dr No is indeed on now, Bond inspecting Strangways and on the tail of Quarrel.

    At least you get to start and end quite strong. I imagine slogging through Die Another Day at the 48 hour mark will be tough (on the other hand, by that point it might just be hilarious). Have fun all the same!

    Yeah gotta say there are moments I am not looking forward to at all (Die Another Day being one of them) but these first few are brilliant films. Dr No has about another half an hour.

    This is great! I will follow your journey with great intrest.

    I tried this a couple of years back with a couple of mates, we made it up to YOLT before they dozed off.

    Going fine so far... From Russia with Love is a gem of a film!



    Finished From Russia with Love - what a corker of a film! Onto Goldfinger now.



    About half way through Goldfinger at the moment and I'm losing attention to the film - the first two are just more engaging films in my opinion.

    Goldfinger has finished after a couple of technical glitches with the bluray - very annoying considering I cleaned all the bluray discs ready for this marathon so about 20 mins behind time at the moment. Anyhoo, onto Thunderball now...

    Thunderball is nearly over....bit of a slog, like I remember. Some good moments and some great characters but the film just seems to drag as the longest film of the first 4.
    All that said, watching David Niven Casino Royale spoof next at 1.30am - think this will be the first marathon low point... I will persevere however...

    Approaching the end of You only live twice - 5.20am now so just over 14 hours into the marathon.

    It's times like these when I wished I drank coffee - tea and energy drinks will have to do. Cheers for the support. Was lagging a bit earlier but OHMSS has just started and hearing John Barry's title theme has brought new life back into me!
