GE's 'Run, Shoot, and Jump' - mainly the bit from when Bond and Natalya escape the interrogation room until they hit the archives - is one of my favorite bits of score in the series.

I am PRAYING this isn't controversial. As much as people shittalk Serra's score that was a FANTASTIC piece of music.

I surmised it would be, because like you said, people do talk trash about Serra's score a lot. Personally, I love it, and that has to be my favorite piece of the entire thing. Fits so well with the energy and frenetic shooting Bond is dishing out.

People only seem to hate Serra's score because of "Ladies First" and maybe "Scale to Hell" I don't see why people hate it so much. I'll gladly take it over Monty Norman's cheesy soap opera score for Dr. No. And that is controversial.

I can understand people not caring for either of those, as the former sounds really 'cheesy 70's porn-ish,' and the latter...I don't know how to describe it, but parts of it don't sit well with me sometimes, either. But, I still do like them, I just understand where the hate can come from.

I can see where you're coming from @MrBond. DAD has more energy than TWINE and it's more colorful as well. TWINE is very drab and even the action scenes seem static. However, DAD just goes way too far overboard in just about every direction for my tastes.

Heres one. I liked Jaws better in Moonraker then The Spy who Loved Me

About half of the opinions in this thread are anything but controversial. Thus, it's an "opinions" thread as much as a controversial opinions thread.

TWINE isn't great but it's certainly no worse than DAD.

Well, precisley. TWINE is just a lifeless drab with nothing much of a entertainment value. DAD (despites it's many problems) is atleast entertaining in the right mindset!

But it's still not an absolute car crash of a movie. DAD literally unzips it's fly and pisses over Fleming's grave.

I want Quantum to either out last craig or to be the main villian for the next 3 films why you ask I think it is just the best move the producers made to introduce a new nameless and faceless organization.

I really liked the idea behind Quantum too, even if QOS wasn't that great. I hope they bring them back.

In fact it is great ( and don't bother to tell me 'bout its weak points,I know them all). But its story alone, which was the last (and one of the very few anyhow) coherent and convincing spy tales in the Bond Universe (and come to think of it, in the whole genre) combined with Sophie Marceaus very special role makes it near and dear to my heart. Mind you,if it wasn't for the "coherent" part QoS would qualify as well. When I left the cinema back in 99 I felt satisfied with a Bond film the first time since
FYEO (yeah and I know about its weaknesses too,so save your words) and somehow this feeling hasn't changed yet.

Wow, that is certainly controversial. Care to elaborate?
  • I love TWINE. Great story, entertaining action, and Elektra is one of the best Bond girls/villains of the series. Yeah the locations could've been a bit more colourful and Robert Carlyle was a bit wasted but it's one of my favourites.

DAD has more style, it's more colourful and the action scenes are better directed. It also has a crap story, a crap Bond girl, a crap villain, crap CGI, a crap theme song and a shit ton of wasted potential. It's also a terrible send off for Brosnan, one of my favourite Bonds who really deserved to go out on a high note. I could maybe see why you prefer it to TWINE but TLD? It knocks DAD out of the park in every single way.

  • TWINE has the best pre titles sequence of the entire series, a very good theme intro from Garbage, an actor of caliber in Robert Carlyle and features Desmond Llewlyn's Q for the final time. Brosnan gives his best performance, and Dench's M also featured more, rather than simply giving Bond orders and instructions. Only the ending lets it down, as it's all rather dull once we get to the submarine scenes and Denise Richards for the most part, is a major letdown and just as annoying (and dull) as Tanya Roberts 14 years before her

The only redeeming features for DAD are an also very good PTS, some excellent moments from Brosnan, although few and far between, sword fight with Graves, and I'm struggling with much else. The sequence at the Ice Palace near the end was good though, but it's always tough viewing, watching the Halle Berry character being saved. I would of left her to perish

Exactly. I think (keyword, "think") that TWINE is great, but it's not fact. No film rating is fact.

You are sure right with that.
Nevertheless it remains true (for me at least)!
  • Yes it's a fact that's it's not a great release. No Bond film is. We all have our individual preferences. Just because I, or whoever, finds TWINE one of the best of the franchise, doesn't mean it's of general consensus

It pisses over TWINE, more than anything. And yes, TWINE is a soap-opera car crash of a Bond film.

FYEO is more a Soap Opera than TWINE.

    mmm
  • TWINE's insultingly awful 'M gets captured' (cue EastEnders synth drums) subplot is more egregious to me than any number of CGI tsunamis/icebergs, CGI Jinx freefalls (or just Jinx), invisible cars, force lighting or RoboCop suits.

TWINE.....features Desmond Llewlyn's Q for the final time.

How is this a reason for it being better or worse than DAD? It's just a fact. If you say 'TWINE is better because it features Desmond as Q over DAD with John Cleese' then fair enough but the fact that it is his final appearance is as irrelevant as saying its his 17th appearance.

TWINE features Desmond's Q for the final time, DAD features John's Q for the final time. And so what?

TWINE's insultingly awful 'M gets captured' (cue EastEnders synth drums) subplot is more egregious to me than any number of CGI tsunamis/icebergs, CGI Jinx freefalls (or just Jinx), invisible cars, force lighting or RoboCop suits.

Although the 'M being captured' storyline was not as good as it should have been (especially when considering what Colonel Sun did with it) to claim its worse than the various crimes against cinema, Bond and Fleming's grave perpetuated by DAD is so absurd as to be beyond ridicule.
