Agreed: Ken Adams sets were exceptional and really stood out. Gassner is following in this tradition: both the Tosca set in QOS and the Macau boat/lantern set in SF really were eye catching and memorable. I honestly can't think of one Lamont set FYEO all the way through CR that really stood out. He created good atmosphere in both casinos scenes in GE and CR, but nothing extraordinary, which is what I fell Gassner is doing.

I loved Quantum of Solace and Skyfall's sets plus glad to see bond 24 moving along I think if mendes is out Hooper might be up just a thought...

Since Juan is out by fans reactions how about Pierre Morel?

Come on Taken is good right?

That's one of the exceptions. DAD and CR are his best films by far. He went out on a good note. But in only two films Gassner has impressed me a lot

The Russian conference room in OP. Octopussy's palace interior - the bed specifically. The Ice Sub, Zorin's airship interior and mine in AVTAK. Sniper room Bratislava, TLD. Sanchez's lab LTK. The Facility, Severnaya, Archives, Control Room - GE. Elektra's resudence Baku, Bunker Kazahkstan, Submarine - TWINE. Moon's HQ, Gene Therapy clinic - DAD. Casino Royale, Container - ball busting, Sinking house -CR.

The best Gassner set is the Perla de las dunas, which already existed. Production design doesn't always need to be obtrusive. Ken Adam is my favourite PD of all time, but I respect Lamont for doing his own thing, and doing it well. Gassner has it all to prove IMO. If I had to nitpick I'd say SF lodge looked as fake as it was, and the temporary MI6 is no better than anything Lamont would do - the same goes for Silva's island.

Craig and Weisz could star in a Broadway play together but the big news is Baz is back.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2275324/BAZ-BAMIGBOYE-Bond-girl-Rachel-Weisz-heat-Broadway.html#axzz2KIcjYvfa

If it all comes together, it would be for a limited run because Craig has to begin pre-production on Bond 24 next year. Mendes is considering directing that after he completes working with Simon Russell Beale (go see him in Privates On Parade at the Noel Coward Theatre in the West End!) in King Lear, opening early in 2014 at the National Theatre.

Hmmmm? Interesting indeed samuel! Baz was pretty accurate with his fortune telling last time round? Would hope to hear something concrete and official in the summer perhaps?

Gassner is back? Oh, great. I'm sorry, but I just don't get the hype. Not enough imagination and exuberance in his work.

I also interpret Baz's article to signify a 2015 release. (Considering that PP takes place at least a year before release)

Hmm. For me, Lamont's Ice Palace set had a slight 1980s vibe that seemed more appropriate for an older Timothy Dalton-era Bond film.

I'm pleased that Gassner has been re-hired for Bond 24. I liked his sets for Macau. But, yes, his set for Skyfall manor was fake-looking. Overall, I'm just glad Allan Cameron wasn't hired. His sets for Tomorrow Never Dies were bizarre and jarring.

    Preproduction has already started.

  • Interesting. Since Logan already pitched his ideas a couple of months ago, Mendes should have an idea about what the next (2?) Bond films are going to be about, so he should already know whether or not he feels connected enough to it to direct. It feels to me like he's going to return, but just doesn't want to/isn't allowed to publicly commit to it. Also, it just feels that he has been accepted into the Bond family far more than any other director since the Brosnan age, so I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see him return as director, but rather as a producer or maybe a creative consultant.

You mean since the Dalton age. Glen was the last director who was really entrenched as part of the Bond family. I never got tge same feeling with Campbell though. Anyway, it's no surprise Mendes' relationship with the Bond family is so tight because he's technically been in bed with them since late 2008/early 2009 and stuck with EoN throughout the whole MGM crisis, he also brings a gravatas of critically acclaimed success and know his Bond history. It also helps that he's a very good director in general and contributed a great deal in creating a movie that grossed over a billion dollars. Tge biggest Bond movie since TB if not ever.

I wouldn't quite go that far. I mean, as much of a fan as Mendes is, that doesn't make him any better qualified to produce the Bond films than any of us. I wouldn't be surprised if, eventually, Babs and Mikey step down/die that it is passed to a long standing exec. producer or similar.

Judging by Mendes' response at BAFTA and knowing that Logan submitted a treatment for Bond 24 in August, it seems that Mendes wants to greatly re-shape the existing Bond 24 storyline more to his liking. I hope he is allowed to do so. His suggestions/ideas for Skyfall were quite good.

I will be glad when we get something official either way on a release date?

While we aren't 100% sure of when the film will begin, does anyone else have plans of changing up how they approach this site?

Re-watching SF now, and just thinking about how much was spoiled for me because of members on here. I think I'm going to avoid this site a few months into filming, alongside any and all comment sections throughout the Internet. That should be good and tough.

Something I did during the filming of the last film. :P

The filming is the best part for me and I found it relatively easy to avoid all i wanted to and still read and participate.

Yeah, I'm with you there, @Creasy47. When Skyfall went into production I figured 'Oh, I followed the filming process of QoS, that didn't spoil too much, so SF will be fine' and had the argument 'I either enjoy it a 100% in cinema for 2/3 hours, or I enjoy it for a whole year, and a little less in cinema.
I won't follow that 'logic' any more in the run-up to B24, because my enjoyment of SF was severely diminished by everything I already knew. For B24 I plan to only watch the press release, the trailers and maybe listen to the theme song.

    Agreed!

Some people spoiled it for themselves by participating in some of the threads that were way too spoiler heavy such as the clapper board threads. It's easy to be on here and not spoil things for oneself, assuming one can exercise restraint.

I do wonder, knowing what happened, will EON go the clapper board route again? It's secrecy suicide.

I like the build up to a film Title rumors Location rumors Casing rumors then the title press release and that is about it.

I do hope bond 24 is coming out Fall 2014

I, too, enjoy the build up, I just think it's insane how so much got leaked, and not even that, how much of it was leaked on here from the lack of spoiler tags. I think I'll go the incredibly safe route and - as unfortunate as it is - avoid this place until I watch the movie. I literally had every twist spoiled for me before November came.

Same here but while i felt Skyfall was ok I don't think it was the spoilers that hurt me indeed I knew every spoiler in Casino Royale having read both the script review and the Novel and still feel it is the best Bond Film....

Out of curiosity while every bond film is different All the talk of bond 24 seems to only be about Mendes returning so any idea when we will get out first big rumor Location Casting or title?

That info won't come out until after we know for sure who the director is. That being said, I'd love for Croatia to be a location.

The problem begins when you have fans who dedicate 9 months of their life to studying the minutiae of production. It's irritating because it becomes some kind of game of one-manship, where everyone's scrabbling around to break the next bit of news, like rats in a ditch fighting over some piss. I avoided most of it for SF, but it wad difficult. Too many people, on too many threads wanting to flex their balls by telling everyone how much they knew. The clapperboard thread was a complete joke.

I think some people knew way too much. At least most of the people had the common decency to spoiler tag most stuff but I'm honestly not sure why anybody wanted the film ruined for them. If I went into it knowing exactly what would happen I wouldn't have enjoyed it much at all.

I didn't have M's death spoilt for me but I saw that coming anyway.

I did have Moneypenny's return spoilt for me but that was half Mendes' fault for announcing it on TV. A member saw it and posted about it.

EDIT: Just read the clapperboard thread. Wow. Glad I stayed out of that one.

@thelivingroyale, I'm thinking about going back and reading some of those spoilerish threads; see how much more I would have known going in. Such a shame that people want to know every single tidbit of the movie before going in. Didn't they organize every single scene and piece it all together, beginning to end?
