Yeah, what planet do u live on?

On planet Earth, Skyfall, Craig's 3rd Bond film is the BIGGEST film EVER in the UK, and has just crossed a Billion dollars world wide.

That's a fact. No argument. No making excuses. It's there. No getting around it.

But I suspect you still CAN'T or WON'T face the reality.

Same planet I live on, one where when you look in the mirror and see butt-ugly, you AIN'T seeing James Bond.

Also one where a guy who looks like he is already middle-aged is a rookie double-0, one who acts bratty as a TOP GUN era Tom Cruise character for what was clearly written to be a 20something Bond. Except for a few nice moments in QUANTUM, nothing in the Craig era evokes Bond for me, and just in terms of dramatic storytelling, the whole thing is just dreadful.

I've said it before and it merits saying again: if these are supposed to be serious movies, then you can't run away and say it is escapism everytime somebody points out really boneheaded plotting, like professionals keeping all their special contacts on cellphones so Bond can kill them and acquire his next plot point like some video game plot. And if you're saying it is escapism, then why are you doing it in such a plodding unBondlike fashion? I guess it is a neat trick to hypnotize the moviegoing public into buying off on crap, but to be fair, I guess you could say the same thing about MOONRAKER, which was the biggest grossing Bond back then, even though it was just a P.O.S.

It seems you belong to that small group of people who don't like the Craig's Bond. Well it doesn't matter. As Connery said "you can't win them all" lol

This and the notion of a twenty-something Bond are fair points. The rest I pretty much don't agree with.

I think DC will probably call it a day after is 4th film, just the feeling i get, it seems the kind of guy who would walk away from it, once the possiblities have been exhausted.

Everything you say after this is now rendered irrelevant.

Look, everyone, trolls! I haven't seen one in a little while.

"You know what would make us cool? Let's hate on something and bring negativity to those who enjoy it. It'll be a great way to spend our time and, you know, be cool."

We've had more trolls than a fairy tale around here for the past while now.
  • Pity really when a lot of threads degenerate into silly arguments, but I guess that's pretty frequent wherever you go. Here will be no different

What did I say before on this issue. In the simplest terms, Craig's tenure peaked with Casino Royale in a sense, as the subsequent releases simply weren't as good. He's still good, at 44, for another two or three releases yet, and I have no real reason to want anyone else in the part, despite some initial skepticism (with him as James Bond)

I don’t think it’s the looks of DC that are ugly, it’s the words being spewed. For some the internet allows them to drop their guard/mask/facade and reveal their not so pleasant nature as they have the freedom to freely vent secure in the knowledge that their anonymous keyboard angst and put downs won’t be met by their target stood in front of them.

Which should be shut down instantly without hesitation.

I think it's about moderation. If someone is personally attacking a fellow member, and I mean being utterly vulgar not just arguing, then they should be booted. If however someone is stating their hatred for something Bond related, they should be allowed to vent just as much as those who have nothing but positive things to say. If they stand by their arguments they will stick around and play devil's advocate, if they are doing it for effect they will get bored and move on. I don't think we can just start kicking people off the boards because they hate the current era. Some of the naysayers have some decent points, the problem arises when those points become lost.

Some people don't like Daniel Craig or his Bond. I don't happen to agree with them but they've just as much right to discuss the topic of James Bond as any of us. James Bond existed before 2006 and it will last long beyond Craig's tenure. Like I said, those who are here to stir up trouble will eventually become bored. If you don't like what they say don't reply and fuel the fire.

Overall I agree. I suppose, its all about HOW something is said, but we had people here for way too long, who were obvious trolls from the start. They should see a faster end IMO.
I think, dislike is easier to accept then hatred. I believe, that we all ( including myself) should remind ourselves once in a while, that this is just a movie. Hatred IF at all should be reserved for the more important and serious issues we are facing in the world.

    Fair point.

German Lady is right to a degree. But if something really bugs you like an unsuitable Bond actor (like Craig) it is very cathartic to get it out of your system with a bit of a rant and also disperse some of one's worries from the real world at the same time. May I add that I don't criticise Dan Craig as a person - just his casting in the Bond role.

Just always remember, that too harsh words can be as annoying to others as is the thought of him as Bond to you. This might help to tone it down a bit.

In response to German Lady - How is Daniel Craigs Bond screened in Germany - is his voice dubbed into German or are the films shown with subtitles ? If the voices are dubbed into German I can understand the added factor that might give this weak voiced actor appeal. Dubbed voices are always more exciting , deeper and more masculine than their often lacklustre English originals. I saw a version of 'Jane Eyre' dubbed into French which I had previosly seen in English. It starred Toby Stephens who I think is a lousy actor and who really irritates me. But dubbed into French , with those deep, rich Gallic tones he sounded terrific - it seemed to make him look different, bigger - more powerful, and it lifted the story and made it seem more dramatic. He almost seemed like Orson Welles ( star of the 1940's Jane Eyre) who really did have a rich deep voice. Both Toby S. and Daniel C. have weak soppy voices. If only Toby Stephens really talked like that, if only Daniel Craig looked like Sean connery. Oh well thats life 21st century.

I strongly disagree with this. One of Craig's strengths is his ability to put interesting twists on his lines by changing the inflection in his voice. While some of the previous actors always went for the most obvious line readings, Craig uses even the most basic of lines to further the character of Bond. I think that this is a huge reason why his Bond is seen as the most three-dimensional of all of the actors (he wasn't given a BAFTA nomination for CR because he looked pretty).

I'll give you an example of this: in CR, Bond and M are standing on the beach in front of Dimitrios' house with Solange's body in front of them. You could see by Bond's original reaction that he was affected by her death but that he doesn't want anyone to see that - perhaps even himself. M says to him "I would ask you to keep your personal feelings out of this but that doesn't seem to be a problem for you, does it?". Bond responds with a very firm, very flat "No.". That one simple, one word line did more to illustrate his character (and make him bad-ass!) than some actors were able to achieve with a whole film's worth of dialogue.

Again, in SF - M asked him how old he was when his parents died. His voice changes as he says the lines "You know the answer to that. You know the whole story." As he says the lines his voice becomes subtley child-like, illustrating what was said in his file before - "unresolved issues from childhood". A good actor doesn't just look at his own lines, he look at other character's lines for clues about his character as well.

:)) Sorry but his voice is one of his best traits, of which he has many. To attack his voice is even more ridiculous then hating on other things. I always try to see his films in english, as I love his voice and what he can do with it.
    Weak voice =))

It's clear thelordflasheart and GermanLady are 'Craig -Crazy' fans and their loyalty is unbounded and infused with blind faith. I don't wish to spoil their enjoyment, nor should we on this site,of their favourites - but I am expressing what I think is unsuitable in the latest run of Bonds. I suppose it is like comparing 'One Direction' fans to 'Duke Ellington' Fans .(the latest fad to established quality) Duke Ellington fans like me just don't get it.

It's Connery and Lazenby. The rest of the films 'aren't good' in Jason's eyes.

    Craig has a weak voice????

Think you need to start using these

I have only had one moment where Craig's voice baffled me. In QoS when Mathis and Bond run into Fields at the airport and Mathis makes the handcuffs comment. I never understood what Bond retorted with ("I do hope so") until I got the DVD and used subtitles. Other than that, I love his voice.
Yup, he mumbles at times, which is what he chooses to do and I am not sure, I always like it, but it has noting to do with a weak voice by all means.

I have read countless tweets and other comments from people, that they could listen to him reading the phone book for hours.

The only time I've heard Craig mumble was when he deliberately did it, when calling Vesper an idiot, to which he then repeated to her clearly.

You have? Cool. I think I'm one of those people. :P In fact, I just got One Life in the mail today, and will no doubt love it. Ok, not a phone book, and I've loved nature documentaries since I was a kid, but anyway... :D He has a fantastic voice.
