@DarthDimi, another thing you've stated that I find myself agreeing with: I've never read a single HP book or watched a single film.

All great films, though I've never seen 'Some Girls Do.' I think I'm picking up both volumes of 'Kill Bill' from Best Buy on Friday, they're only $4 a piece then.

For many years I've been struggling myself out of what seems to be an incorrect notion that HP is kid's stuff. Having finally accepted the fact that this series might be worth checking out, I have put it on my to do list, as I said. But there's still no hurry. Funny, isn't it, how preconceived notions can dominate one's thoughts so strongly. ;-)

WHAT?! We are only a few years apart in age. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?! :O
  • Lincoln, with Daniel Day-Lewis. Awesome movie, Day-Lewis is very convincing as Lincoln, you can even forget the actor and jump into the character. Historical movie at it's best. Highly recommended.

HP bores me. TLTWATW is way cooler IMO.

@0BradyM0Bondfanatic7, I didn't know there was an age requirement to viewing HP! It's just never interested me. Blu-ray clips of the later films look tremendous, and I even tried to sit down and watch the first one once, but I just couldn't do it.

    Watched John Carter (2012)
Not bad, 6.5 on the richter scale. :)

Finally got round to watching Bangkok Knockout, a Thai movie By Panna Rittikai, absolutely insane full contact fight choreography, the film itself is a bit MEH, but watching people take double jump spin kicks full in the face never gets boring

John Carpenter's Vampires. YES! I knew I would one day find someone who also appreciates that film. Critics panned it - Dimi loved it. :P Sheryl Lee takes such offensive abuses from James Woods in this film, it never ceases to put a dirty smile on my face. ;-)

Vampires can be all sorts of things, but one thing they cannot be is sparkling sunlight-proof veggies.

Give me Bela Lugosi as Dracula over Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen any day!

    Good antidote to twilight. :-)

How cinema has changed since Lugosi and even Lee. Vampires seem too humanised which i understand relative to its target audience with regards to the teen market with Twilight. Lugosi and Lee embodied the inhuman aspect of vampire.

To put it mildly, it's my Bible. Rorschach is without a doubt one of the greatest characters ever created, and is a great character to look up to. One who never compromises even when the whole is falling into degradation around him. Granted, his methods aren't exactly subtle or lawful, but I love him and his fight against the evils that plague our world. :)

Watchmen is a classic graphic novel and one I can recommend to almost everybody. I'm currently collecting the recently released 'Before Watchmen' series but I haven't started reading yet. It is my intention to do so once I've obtained all issues. Though I have no unrealistic hopes that these can at any point match, let alone surpass the quality of the originals, I am looking forward to these new additions to the classic.

You are the better man than me. I simply block them out. It is much like the literary Bond. If daddy Ian didn't write it, then it isn't that important to me, as it isn't the creator's vision. I feel the same with the Before Watchmen series. I share Alan's flaming mad reaction to the very idea.

Not bad remake of Alfred Hitchcock's 1935 classic, made by the director/producer team who would later give us the terrific Bulldog Drummond adventure, Deadlier Than The Male. More's quite good in the Robert Donat role while the lovely Taina Elg is somewhat miscast in the Madeleine Carroll role. 1st and final 1/3s work best as it tends to sag in the middle.

    *** out of *****.

Watched "The Wolfman" today with Benico Del Toro. Thought it was pretty enjoyable and an old fashioned kind of movie. Certainly thought it was better than "Wolf" with Nicholson and Phieffer all those years ago.

Great WWII epic! Huge recommend to everyone who enjoys a spirited albeit at times bitter historical re-enactment of a battle that happened for real.

Here's a list of recent viewings:

Argo - which follows the unbelievable true story of six Americans that have found shelter with the Canadian ambassador in Iran when the revolution reaches a boiling point. Okay, some facts were distorted for drama but it was still an excellent edge-of-the-seat ride and well worth the admission ticket price.

The Reincarnation of Peter Proud - titular character has recurring nightmares about a woman killing him and goes out to find out if his dreams may be something more. A good forgotten 70s gem with Michael Sazzarin, Jennifer O'Neill and Margot Kidder. Which brings me to whatever happened to the David Fincher remake?

Jackson County Jail - originally billed as a Roger Corman "caged woman" drama, the story follows a young woman who stumbles into a nightmare land of hijacking and humiliation while driving cross-country from California to New York. However, this is so much more than a drive-in exploitation movie with two great performances led by Yvette Mimieux and Tommy Lee Jones that raises it several bars above the genre. The movie definitely deserves a better title than the one it got.
