Funnily enough, today is the date when both GE and CR were released in the US, in 1995 and 2006 respectively.

Campbell understands Bond better than many.

    Better than Villeneuve, certainly.

Show me the Bond films Villeneuve has made that tell us anything at all about how much he understands Bond.

I am still waiting for those examples that show how well Villeneuve understands Bond. Because before GE, Campbell had made a few comedies, including a sex comedy, and some legal thrillers. Nothing even remotely Bond. Yet he did a great job with GE.

Villeneuve made Sicario. That film alone gives me hope. But I'm still not going to comment on his grasp on Bond before I have seen his first Bond film.

I have no wish to be unfair to Campbell but I think you should be fair to Villeneuve. Wait for the film to drop and then judge the result. If you're already in love with your anger towards something that hasn't been made yet, you are in for a rough year. Also, a Bond film is the collective effort of multiple individuals. The director alone isn't going to make or break the film.

    I couldn't agree more @DarthDimi you've said it all.

And to be fair, Bond doesn't use his car's gadgets or sleep with Xenia in GoldenEye. Imagine if that happened today.

He had a rough bit of semi-sexual something with Xenia (with or without the foreplay). I bet that scene couldn't pass today.

You have that character and Bond doesn't sleep with her? What's the point?

That should have been a suspenseful scene, and instead we got jokes about safe sex.

They saved the lethal squeezing for Cuba. But yeah, it's sort of a missed opportunity.
