    RIP Lee Tamahori

Die Another Day was the first Bond film I saw in theaters. The Edge 1997 was a great movie.

Let's also not forget that back in 2002 OHMSS and the Dalton films were still considered "failures" (to my own dismay, I'd like to add); the films that were asked to be emulated were GF, YOLT, TSWLM and GE. Lee was asked to make a larger-than-life film with sci-fi elements and quips galore. He committed to that and back in the day it was a success, commercially of course, but if I recall correctly also critically (at least over here it got pretty good reviews).

I certainly wouldn’t say DAD is the worst Bond film, for all its flaws (and I think as is the case with these films its failures don’t come down to a single person). Actually on my rewatch of it recently I enjoyed it. The task of directing a Bond film isn’t something any of us can comprehend anyway, and anyone who pulls it off from pre-production to finish (I’m looking at you, Danny Boyle) deserves credit. Once Were Warriors is also a film which deserves praise. RIP.

Lee wanted to go with the idea of James Bond being a code name for different agents but the producers shot it down

Any idea that comes from the 1967 film version of Casino Royale should certainly be shot down!
