I watched the first one. It was like a mis-mash of half baked ideas from Star Wars. The writing was rather weak and acting wasn't stellar. I am not surprised that it was cancelled as the second film I think was received poorly and was less popular from the first one.
The main problem that I have with Snyder and his DC work is that he didn't push Superman or even Batman like he could have. Namely with new characters (in particular villains). He just basically used ones already used and just "Zack Snyder-ed" them. While WB is somewhat at fault for the DCEU failing, they should have known better than to hire him for crowd-pleasers. So @peter while it would be nerve-racking to write Bond, I feel that Superman would be more to my style. As I don't think that I could sink any lower. With so much Superman material out there, I feel that I could create an original Superman screenplay that feels fresher than what we've got.
Different era, jarring now.

Good news.
I've (as well I'm sure as other people have) been hoping for this day for a long time. Brainiac should have been done as a movie villain a LONG time ago. I'd say go for a somewhat famous actor for the role. Oscar Issac, maybe? Also, there could be a side villain (other than Lex Luthor), Superman does deserve more villains to have screen time.
Agreed on everything. Its very interesting to see which actors are in the running for the role.
Not sure I’m sold on either film just considering everything about them and those involved (I mean, Craig Gillespie’s a good director and I liked his work on I, Tonya, but I was a bit underwhelmed by Cruella. I like a lot of Mike Flannagan’s work and assumed he was directing Clayface, but I’m very mixed about the actual director James Watkins. I’m sure either could turn out to be interesting films though).
There’s a few superhero movies coming out in 2027. Batman, the new Superman, Avengers, the new Spiderverse film… think there’s even a new Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings coming that year too.
I agree with you on some of the creative personnel. The problem for me, is not using actual characters from the comics who are long overdue for a screen adaptation. One thing that makes me excited for Clayface is that it is using Batman: The Animated Series as a guide.
Oh I remember that episode! He's an actor who gets into a crash, is disfigured, and is then approached by some shady scientist who's working on some sort of experimental thing that turns him into Clayface. I think that's a great idea for a film, even without Batman. Jekyll and Hyde almost.
Yes, Feat of Clay parts 1 & 2 are two of the best Batman: TAS has to offer.
Keeping this thread Superman/Supergirl themed, I'd say their next movie(s) should take one thing from the Batman movies: multiple villains for the heroes to battle physically and mentally.
Not a series I've watched in a long time, but still have those vivid memories of! I have resisted Mask of The Phantasm relatively recently though, which I thin is still the best Batman film.
Yes, recent Batman films have great foes who force Batman to face something about himself. The latest Batman film did that so well.
In this instance, Momoa contacted Gunn requesting he play Lobo because that was the DC character he wanted to play the most.
