    Anora (2024)
    Woman of the Hour (2023)

    Both excellent, imo.

Anora is fantastic! Saw it, loved it.

I just ordered a copy on blu ray- I trust you Darth!

Ow, well. I hope you won't be disappointed then. 😉

Sincere thanks for your recommendation on Anora, DD. I just watched it, and in the first few minutes I felt like I was watching a Showgirls clone, but it quickly became a much more nuanced & fascinating immersion into this girl's life & emotions.... not sure how feminists would perceive it, and not gonna show it to my Wife, but it actually elicited a few tears here & there. And some laughs... the NY locations were especially interesting to me, having lived there. What an asymmetrically masterful piece of work...

My wife watched along with me and she also thought it was an amazing film. Not sure if that puts your mind at ease, but I thought it was worth mentioning considering your concerns how the film would be perceived from a female perspective :)

    Thanks, that's really interesting.

The Usual Suspects first watch in 4K, no matter how many times I see this masterpiece I am in awe of Christopher McQuarrie;s script. When the credits roll I always think to myself this is one of the best films I have ever seen.

    It was pretty hysterical

    It was.

One of my favorite bits: "Hector Gutierrez, Department of Occupational Safety and Health. Officer Barnes, you are under arrest."

I loved that whole MI Fallout sequence. The crane scene with the car had me in stitches

    THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB (2025)
    Directed by Chris Columbus

    en_gb_ttmc_main_cake_vertical_27x40_rgb_predate_1.jpg

It's a Netflix original so my expectations weren't high, but I did enjoy this one. There are obvious Bond connections of course with Pierce (who doesn't get too much to do but is very charming nonetheless), Jonathan Pryce, a DAD Vanquish and a Thomas Newman score.

Sure it's Britain at its most stereotypical and it has a plot that doesn't always make much sense, but it goes along pretty well, is occasionally funny (especially David Tennant's character) and it's all very cozy and mysterious.

One Battle After Another (2025). Definitely worth the hype - PTA always delivers! For my tastes it’s been a weak year for movies, so I’m all for this one running away with the awards. Updated ranking of PTA’s filmography:

    1. There Will Be Blood (2007)
    2. The Master (2012)
    3. One Battle After Another (2025)
    4. Punch-Drunk Love (2002)
    5. Boogie Nights (1997)
    6. Phantom Thread (2017)
    7. Hard Eight (1996)
    8. Magnolia (1999)
    9. Licorice Pizza (2021)
    10. Inherent Vice (2014)

One Battle After Another. For me, the film didn't live up to the hype.

One Battle After Another (2025). Enjoyable, but I feel that PTA has done better. Leo felt on autopilot with his performance, we've seen him do the same thing before. Chase Infiniti is a talent to keep an eye on. Benicio del Toro is a joy to watch, as he's got a charm to him in this part. I do think that Sean Penn is one of the better movie villains in recent memory. Overall, a fun movie, but I still like Punch-Drunk Love (2002) better. PTA doesn't make the same movie over and over again. It's something different every time. OBAA happily continues that streak.

I’d agree that calling it his magnum opus is too far (for me, nothing could top There Will Be Blood), but I still think One Battle After Another is one of his very best, and for me a strong rebound from the decent but unremarkable Licorice Pizza. I don’t blame you for liking Punch-Drunk Love more though since it’s a truly great, unique film. It’s unlikely for any two people to have the exact same PTA ranking anyway, seeing as his films are all incredibly different!

    Welcome To Sudden Death (2020)
Another classic Van Damme film gets a dtv remake. Michael Jai White steps into the shoes of Van Damme, but like Scott Adkins in Hard Target 2, he deserves better than this. Michael Jai White delivers the goods as always, but the villains are completely forgettable, they can't even remotely compare with Powers Boothe in the original. And the 2 kids were really annoying, Don't bother watching. Either watch the original Sudden Death, or something else from Michael Jai White.

The original Sudden Death is one of my all time guilty pleasure films. Being a die hard hockey fan, having a Die Hard in a hockey arena checked a lot of boxes. Especially the fight with Iceburgh in the kitchen

People having a general list that's different for all his movies proves he's a true artist. I also like Boogie Nights (2025). PTA always tries something different, and I generally enjoy his work.

I think this is the most beautiful film I have ever seen.

I just can't find the words. I'm utterly speechless. Honestly.

This one's the definition of a masterpiece. It floored me and left me feeling vulnerable and emotional in so many ways.
