Now that some big news about the new movie is out there, it's time to launch an official news thread, i.e. this is where we collect relevant news articles for any archivists out there who enjoy putting together a production timeline. We have two very polite requests, though:

1) Let's try to avoid useless clickbait;
2) Let's try to always link to an original story, not to someone unknown commenting on it.

Happy fishing!

Thanks, guys, but it was @moneyofpropre2 who suggested the time was right for this thread. Credit where credit is due.

    https://www.worldofreel.com/blog/2025/7/16/justin-kuritzkes-on-shortlist-to-write-bond

“Sources tell me that Justin Kuritzkes, best known for penning Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers” and “Queer,” is currently on the shortlist to write the script for Bond 26, Villeneuve’s anticipated take on 007.“

I’m hopeful and impressed, if true. Such a vibrant and cerebral choice. I’d love to know the other shortlisted names.

I’d be interested in that choice. I wasn’t a fan of Challengers but for what it’s worth I can imagine Kuritzkes writing for Bond just from that. Ultimately it’ll depend on what direction the new team want to take with the story.

Yeah if that's true (and it feels like one of those stories which probably isn't made up: he doesn't seem a name someone with a lack of imagination would associate with Bond) it's encouraging.
"A final decision on the screenwriter is expected by the end of the year" - oof. It's a long way off, isn't it! :D

It is, isn’t it? If true anyway. Means casting’s a bit away…

Betting on a 2028 release if that’s the case. Not that that’s surprising.

I loved Challengers. I think one transferable element from Challengers to Bond 26 is what I’ll call (for lack of a better term) progressive eroticism. The relationship between Challengers’ three leads was playful yet consequential, erotic but not exploitative. The sexuality served a narrative purpose.

Yes, I got that electric sense in the dialogue. Helps that it’s all consensual and erotic as you said!

I’d give him a go. He’ll have to work from a direction they’re working on anyway and maybe other writers. Why not?

Can we just confirm whether this is the official thread for Bond 26 news or the thread for official Bond 26 news?

Unofficially, I've heard it's neither. In fact, it's the official thread for official Bond 26 news.

Given it’s World of Reel reporting Kuritzkes is on the shortlist, perhaps a grain of salt should be taken with it, but to give my own opinion he’s not a choice I disapprove of and am definitely curious about.

Also worth noting he’s worked with both the new Bond producers already (with Amy Pascal on Challengers, and with David Heyman on an adaptation of Don Winslow’s City on Fire that’s yet to enter production), so I suppose it makes sense to presume his name has come up in conversation as a possible writer, even if he doesn’t get the job in the end.

Why? I'm certainly open to suggestions. Would you like a separate Production Timeline thread? I'll set it up, if you like.

I always found the No Time To Die: Production Diary thread really helpful and constantly referred back to it - especially the dated and colour coded news/updates list.

I'm very keen for a similar style post for B26. Happy to help you manage it, if you like!
