ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE: REMASTERED & EXPANDED LIMITED EDITION (2-CD SET)
Music composed and conducted by John Barry
Limited edition of 5000 units
Exclusive release

Sold exclusively at www.lalalandrecords.com for the first 90 days of release.

La-La Land Records, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, EON Productions and Universal Music Enterprises present a remastered and expanded 2-CD re-issue of renowned composer John Barry’s original motion picture score to the sixth James Bond film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Produced by Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, the 1969 film stars George Lazenby as James Bond 007 and is directed by Peter Hunt, who edited the five previous Bond films.

With four legendary Bond scores already to his credit, composer John Barry reported for duty for the fifth time to provide the musical continuity and introduce a new 007, as George Lazenby would be first to succeed Sean Connery in the iconic role of Bond. The score, like the film, is thrilling and powerful, bursting with action, drama and glamour – and considered by many to be one of Barry’s finest works, as demonstrated within this deluxe 2-CD release. This remastered and expanded presentation of Barry’s score includes the songs “We Have All The Time In The World,” performed by Louis Armstrong and “Do You Know How Christmas Trees Are Grown?,” performed by Nina, with lyrics by Hal David

The album is produced and mixed by Neil S. Bulk, and mastered by Doug Schwartz, from the original 3-track 1/2" masters, with the song "We Have All The Time In The World" mixed from the original 1" 8-track tapes. Two cues that were unavailable on the stereo tapes are in the program’s bonus section, pulled from the mono film stem and processed into stereo by Chris Malone. Disc 1 and the opening of Disc 2 present the expanded score presentation. This is followed by the original 1969 soundtrack album, newly edited and mixed for this release. Disc 2 concludes with additional cues, including an unused film version of the song "We Have All The Time In The World" featuring Louis Armstrong.

Limited to 5000 units, this release features sharp art direction by Dan Goldwasser, with a new front cover designed by Jim Titus. The exclusive, in-depth liner notes are by journalist and author Jon Burlingame, with an introductory note by composer David Arnold.

This is exciting. One of Barry's very best. A chronological score presentation makes me very happy -- something to look forward to.

I was thinking yesterday that I was sorely missing this announcement. Great news.

The mono-to-stereo conversion of the film version of Escape from Piz Gloria sounds very nice. Chris Malone did well. He also worked on the recent archival edition of Barry's The Knack, and the film versions of that score, taken from a mono source, sound surprisingly very listenable, despite what must've been a plethora of sound effects to remove.

I'll save the other new or semi-new tracks of OHMSS to listen when I get the full album.

Looks great, enough new bits in there to justify a buy I think; thanks for posting.

Kinda knew this was coming, but I was not expecting the extra content rather than just repeating what was on the already remastered '03 version. This has been my favorite soundtrack since becoming a big Bond fan and this can only enhance my appreciation of it.

Each Bond La-La Land release is a gift to fans in this time when we're not getting much else in the way of merchandising since the release of NTTD and the first Amazon film.

That mono-to-stereo in Escape from Piz Gloria sounds so wide, and the instruments so cleanly distributed along the stereo space, that it leads me to wonder if Chris Malone used some kind of AI tool to isolate each instrument/section from the original mono stem before mixing them back together in stereo. I don't know if today's non-AI tools can achieve that sort of high-quality separation. At least the ones I've used to convert to stereo (without any sort of AI, and I haven't done such conversions in a few years) can create a pleasant stereo-ified sound, but ultimately the instruments don't sound like they're coming at you from different angles, which they do here.

Looking forward to it, so glad they're still going ahead with these! Interesting how they've dropped the "Anniversary" theme for the first time.

Well I guess nearly seven months is a bit too far off to call it an anniversary one! :) I guess it was planned to come out in the 50th anniversary year originally.
I listened to a bit of 'Prelude for Guitar and Strings'- not only is it absolutely lovely but I have no memory of it in the film! Not going to listen to any more though.

I have no recollection of this track as well, but it certainly reminds me of another Barry compostion from the previous year. Even their titles are similar.

So with TB getting almost certainly its 60th anniversary release this year, it leaves only YOLT and DAF as the Bond scores yet to get expanded/remastered releases, which I deem absolutely essential.
Assuming DAF will get a 45th anniversary release next year, I can only hope that, like OHMSS, my favorite Bond soundtrack will get its due sometime before 2027.

Yeah that was exactly my thought when I saw the title, I kind of wondered if someone else had named the cue after that, but I guess these titles come from the recording sessions..?

'Prelude for Guitar and Strings' is a cue that plays in the background during the scene where Tracy confronts Draco about his and Bond's "business deal" at Draco's birthday.
