Previously I’ve found it cheaper to buy direct from La-La rather than the Bond store even though I live in the UK. I expect conversion rates probably played a part but even without the cost of transatlantic shipping it was still more expensive from the Bond store.

And when when Moonraker and Golden Gun came out, I also recall the Bond store, for some asinine reason, wouldn’t let me purchase both CDs on one order - I had to buy them both separately, and pay two lots of shipping, which again made it more than buying from La-La where I could combine them and just pay shipping once.

Ordered the expanded score from the 007 store, only to discover a while afterwards that it would be cheaper to buy it directly from La-La Land Records. Oh well, I guess if the CD ships from the UK, it will arrive much sooner.

Is it though? Last time it was actually marginally cheaper to buy from 007 for the UK (once shipping etc. was taken into account), I didn't check this time though.

The album release is currently £39.00 on the 007 store, but $32.98 (£24,59) on lalalandrecords.com.

Shipping can obviously give you a totally different cost when everything is added, but shipping to Norway in this case, gave me these numbers:

The order from 007.com with shipping included was £54.00, but there's an additional VAT on items purchased from websites abroad, so the order was £67,34 in total.

The same order, if placed on lalalandrecords.com, would have been $56.48 (or £42,11). Adding the VAT, the order would have been £52,55 in total if purchasing from La-La Land Records.

I didn't even check this when placing my order, as I expected the album to be roughly the same price on both sites, with shipping considerably cheaper from the 007 store. Visiting the La-La Land site earlier today however, I saw that the album itself was cheaper, as well as the total cost with everything taken into account. Lesson learned!

Ah sorry, forgot you were in Norway. After doing all the maths it was cheaper for us in the UK from 007 last time, although funnily enough the release before I worked it out and direct from LLL was cheaper- I guess it fluctuates, plus I think 007store changed the way they sell them a couple of releases ago which played into it.

Yes, I guess a bit of fluctuation is to be expected, for whatever reason. The next time it might even be the other way around. At least it wasn't the Fabergé x 007 Octopussy Egg Objet I placed an order for – I won't even try to figure out the total cost for that thing! :))

How very strange! Have never experienced having to pay two lots of shipping before, even when purchasing big, bulky items.

Yeah it was very weird, maybe it was a slightly bungled attempt to stop people buying multiple copies to sell on other sites or something?

I've always thought Eight was one of the best things Barry has ever written somehow.

It's one of the compositions where I feel he pushed the furthest, artistically speaking. Among other things, the mood is meant to be seductive, but it's almost too much: intoxicating, oneiric, even a bit unsettling, with those uneasy harmonies and the rising violins in the last part. Fundamentally, he was doing what he always did: to write music that elevated a scene and the story. But here, he reached even greater heights. The music ends up being so rich and complex, and about so much more than the film it's scoring.

I've been listening since yesterday, and I really love it! It's such a classy and mature score and flows so nicely. Sound quality is better than ever as well. "Grand Christmas Eve Ball" is very nice and nostalgic to hear, as I love the scenes where it plays. I'll be listening to this release for a while.
  • My copy arrived from 007 Store on Friday (UK delivery). What’s the full chronological order with the extras on disc2 included?

Yes it's one of the few times where he's kind of gone a bit further than Bond needs: I don't want to say he misjudged it at all, but it feels like it's from a better film than a Bond, somehow.

I have a question, there are 3 different versions of "Journey to Blofeld's Hideaway (Piz Gloria)" on the 2 Disc Set?
  • Is anyone clever enough to edit the resignation cue to include Dr No, FRWL and TB themes in to it as he goes through the items in his briefcase?

It's been retitled to 'Journey To Piz Gloria' on disc 1 and it's the full length version (most of which doesn't feature in the film). Then on disc 2 there's the original, truncated album version with the original title which also features 'You Have An Appointment' at the end (known as 'Journey To Draco's Hideaway' on the 2003 release). The third version, 'Journey To Blofeld's Hideaway (Unused Album Version),' is structurally very similar to 'Journey To Piz Glora', but it's much faster, so I think it's a different take.

I'm working on this and will post in the 'Lost But Not Found' thread soon.

It is. My note in the booklet explains what it is.

I wrote this to explain the main differences between the "Film Version" and the original soundtrack version of the "Main Title" from "On Her Majesty's Secret Service."

So I'm a bit confused, the film version has a different opening and ending to the album version, but is the main bit of the track the same take on both?

The different performance between the two is the opening and ending.

Unfortunately for me la la still has me on awaiting shipment, probably due to the fact I ordered mi final reckoning at the same time, so haven't seen the booklet, or read here about the two 'deep hypnosis' tracks whether disc 2 is film version or not?

They are the exact same take. There was about two minutes of the "Blofeld alarm" recorded as an overlay. This overlay is not used in the film, therefore it's not in the score presentation. It was however partially used on the 2003 CD. Rather than face the ire of James Bond music fans, the cue has been presented a second time with the overlay intact.

You're welcome. Hence the clever title, "Deep Hypnosis (With Full Overlay)."

Hope you will receive both soundtracks very soon, @morcarvic! This reminds me that I am yet to watch Dead Reckoning and The Final Reckoning. Must do that soon.

Hi, @nsb1234 Great to have you here! Congratulations and thank you very much for your work and your answers.

Not really "on topic" but maybe you can answer. Why was there a pause between the release of The World is not Enough (2019) and Tomorrow Never Dies (2022)?

I don't know, but we got Arnold's score to Stargate released between them.

Just curious, thanks. Maybe the release of NTTD had something to do?

    Questions, more questions!

Do the film and album versions of "This Never Happened to the Other Fella" and "Over and Out" differ only in the amount of music they have (not to mention the fade out in the latter track), or do they also use different takes in places?

The last 30 seconds or so of "This Never Happened To The Other Fella" is different between the film and album. No performance cuts in "Over And Out" but it's made up of two cues (14m1A and 14m2) and they are forever joined together on the album reel.

    Neil

P.S. Now that I think about it, "This Never Happened To The Other Fella" is comprised of 1m2, 1m3 and 1m4 and they are combined on the album reel, too.
