Surely, they are throwing out these options to test the waters, so to speak.
Public reaction. There has to be the right actor, but I have not seen him yet offered to us yet. I expect more young, pretty faces to be dangled over the next couple of weeks.

    I did say potentially.

I think any smart shortlist still has O'Connor and Mescal (although arguably the latter is too famous).

Tom Holland is already Spider-Man so he can't be Bond, right? Or else I would need Robert Pattinson to take the role. But from that list, Harris Dickinson is the ONE!

Insiders report that the short list for Denis Villeneuve's James Bond includes Tom Holland, Jacob Elordi and Harris Dickinson.

Holland seems a nonsensical candidate as he's making more Spider-Man films. Kinda short too.

    Sounds a click bait article.

Elordi - nope, Holland - nope and Dickinson - nope - my goodness - these are absolutely terrible choices! Surely they came come up with a better shortlist than this? Hopefully this is just unsubstantiated media rumours - suspect DV would want a hand in the casting process and that probably wouldn't be until a script is in place (just don't cast Chalamet)
  • I feel like Holland is added to the shortlist obligatorily or because some out of touch Amazon exec floated him but I doubt (and very much HOPE) he’s a serious candidate. Idk about the other fellas, I don’t think I’ve seen them in anything. Elordi is handsome and tall, definitely has a bit of the Bond look but maybe too boyish and idk if his resume is all that impressive but I’m certainly be checking out Frankenstein later this year so maybe he’ll impress. Dickinson has a lot more serious artist buzz about him so that gives me more hope about his acting talents…but he doesn’t really look very Bondian to me. Part of that is the awful haircut he sports, but even in pics where he’s coiffed he looks fairly awkward to me. Maybe the combo of a Hollywood trainer and stylist could whip him into something more appealing? If they’re dead set on a younger Bond I suppose they could do worse but I can’t say I’d be bowled over by any of these choices the way I was for Villeneuve.

Well the Spiderman producer is now the producer of Bond - so strap in...

No, no, no! This shortlist must be fake! It's that bad!

It's going to be Chalamet, it's a given.

I told you guys ATj would be too old for the gig. Dickinson might be ok but he would have to bulk up considerably, likely 100 pounds or more.

That shortlist is nightmare fuel. I'd take Dickinson over Holland and Elordi but I hope they cast the net wider than this.

Still keeping my fingers crossed it won't be a reboot with a rookie Bond.

This is certainly nonsense (in the way the Sun claimed Taylor-Johnson was the next Bond when Eon were considering selling up or not moving forward with Bond 26) but here it is..

    not-sure-how-true-this-rumour-is-but-how-would-you-react-if-v0-5ru9b7y94h9f1.jpg

Holland is currently Spider-Man (Spider-Man: Brand New Day is to be released July 2026) so i can't see any reason why Amazon would want him.

He's also extremely short compared to the other Bond actors. He's 5'6. The height issue may not prevent a shorter actor getting Bond but why not consider taller actors first!

Oh no, Not Holland 🫣 .

Are they going to make a Young Bond or another 'Bond Begins' again a la Casino Royale? That's why they're looking for a younger actor under 30? Maybe The First Light already given us an idea on what Amazon Bond is going to look like 😅

I'd rather see a Muppets Bond movie with Kermit the Frog as 007 than Holland or any of the guys mentioned in that Variety article.

Imho there is no actor that is out there that is right for Bond. And I also feel Daniel Craig was miscast as Bond so I've been feeling this way since 2006. 😂 Not that Craig was a bad actor or awful but just not my idea of Bond.

Anyway... the only way to cast Bond is to find and pick a guy that encapsulates this...

The music is the DNA of Bond. Bond is the ultimate alpha male, chain smoking, misogynist, sexist, loner, killer for the state hero of 20th century popular culture. It doesn't matter if Amazon become the richest company on planet Earth, they won't find an ideal guy to play Bond. He's not out there.* Amazon are going to find that out over the next year or more.

    *Just my opinion. 😉

I think the mention of Holland is sort of a ‘wish list’ pick. In practice I think it’ll be very hard for the current Spiderman to be James Bond, but his name does drum up interest.

Dickinson I’m all for. I think he’s a very good actor. I’m not as sold on Elordi, but it’s not out of the bounds of possibility, and I’d give him the benefit of the doubt.

We’ll see how true this is in the long run. If true these picks imply this Bond might be in his early 30s, maybe a year 2 or 3 type thing. But we’ll see. Maybe during the process someone else will stand out.

If one assumes they'll screen test the candidates, they probably haven't done that yet. They don't even have a script yet. Also, to have a director who can provide input would make sense. Therefore, these names would in fact be a wish list.

The culture, and films reflecting that culture, have moved on from many of those things.

My major blueprint in picking the next Bond actor is through the books, Fleming, even after he's been long dead, have still the basis in what they should remember in picking the right Bond actor.

Films can be inconsistent, but books can't.
