I think, Denis, Amy and David are all going to have a huge say in who is the next actor to play James Bond.

Absolutely. And with Villeneuve, who has very smart casting instincts, we can expect a good choice for Bond, plus M, Moneypenny, Q, the baddies etc. etc. Top actors all want to work with him,

That's a good point actually. Bond is probably a big enough draw in itself, but Villeneuve is a huge one on top of that. Would we have got Fiennes without Mendes? Possibly, but you never know, he might have been the deciding factor.

He could very well get Charlotte Rampling for M ;) David Dastmalchian for Q. I'm now thinking he's worked with two Bond baddies, de Toro and Bardem.
Three Bond baddies, Christopher Walken too, and a Bond girl, Léa Seydoux :)

    And Dave Bautista.

As for actors who lack that quality. I mean this is all subjective, but Leo Suter certainly has a "modern-edge" to him, but I think lacks the old school quality, or more importantly, I feel lacks that resonance with the literary character which I think Callum has, which doesn't mean he's not right for the role, I'm just talking in terms of preference for me personally.

Leo Suter’s an odd one for me. I always forget what he looks like immediately after watching him in something. Pretty sure I’ve been unable to recognise him from photos on this forum. He’s not a bad actor by any means, and not uncharismatic either and certainly good looking, but there’s something about him that just kinda blends into the background. Like he could be replaced by about ten other lookalikes from Central Casting or whatever… weird…

I’m sure he’d be fine if picked as Bond though. But I don’t personally see it.

    Wallpaper Bond. 🤭

I'm guessing Denis Villeneuve, the newly confirmed director, will have some input into who will be cast. Maybe have some names.

Will Villeneuve and Amazon want Chalamet for Bond? It would make sense.

Reshuffle the shortlist but ultimately let the camera decide.

    I seriously doubt it.

Yes, I presume so. I don't think there's much indication in terms of who he's worked with that'll give us a clue though. I don't think it'll be Timothee Chalamet, and I think Amazon have said they're keen on keeping Bond British. Anyway, it'd feel like stunt casting and something that'd be seen as purposely trying to rock the boat. I don't think that's what they're going for. I mean, it's more likely to end up being ATJ (and assuming EON talked with him before the Amazon takeover, it's not unlikely)...

But I don't know. Again, my money's on Callum Turner, but I don't think there's an obvious choice.

ATJ is starting to look very likely. Maybe he is too old for a young Bond.

I don't think there's any indication they're going to have a young Bond... well, obviously compared to Craig in NTTD they'll be younger, and 30s is young at any rate. But I suspect they'll go from what BB and MGW were saying a couple of years ago and prioritise those actors roughly in their mid 30s. Even if it's a year two or three type thing into Bond's career I reckon it'll show him as a relatively seasoned agent. We have First Light doing a mid 20s Bond anyway.

I’ve seen Turner in a few things, and Tramps is the only performance of his I’ve found really engaging (and it couldn’t be further from Bond). He might be good in the role, but so far that’s the only role I’ve liked him in.

If the film is released in a couple of years the actor will be closer to 40 than 30.

That's fine. The likes of ATJ and Turner will be, what, 37? Same age as Craig when he became Bond and younger than Moore, Brosnan, and Dalton. They can easily do 10 years. Probably more.

ATJ will likely be 37 by the time Bond 26 even begins filming and 38 when it releases, no thanks. If they're trying to reach 20 somethings and younger, the answer isn't to get a man nearly 40.

I get where you're coming from, but again, I don’t think youthfulness is the key to connecting with younger audiences. I was 10 years old when Casino Royale came out. I’d seen some of the older Bonds in bits and pieces as a kid, but it was Craig, who was 38 at the time, who made me a fan. His take on Bond pulled me in and turned me into the lifelong fan I am today.

It’s not about casting someone who’s 25, it’s about finding someone with the presence, complexity, and edge to make Bond feel real, relevant and appealing. If anything, someone like Aaron Taylor-Johnson or Callum Turner, or whoever, at 37/38 with a director like Denis Villeneuve could do exactly that.
