I'm not big fan of his but I don't see any issue with his voice.

I’ve watched several interviews with ATJ ; he seems like a very personable fellow and a very serviceable actor. But I just can’t get past his voice. All of the previous actors have had one thing in common, a good , strong voice;yes, even Lazenby. It’s a quality that I want in the next actor.

All but Brosnan then? I have never found his voice particularly strong or masculine.

    Latin American Spanish though.

  • Latin American Alec Trevelyan deserves his own film.

I can kind of talk myself into them using a different process this time, placing more focus on the actor and then developing from there. So instead of treatment/tone -> director -> actor (i.e. A script based on Casino Royale with a much more grounded tone, directed by Martin Campbell -> Daniel Craig), they go actor -> tone -> director -> script.
They obviously have at least an unspoken list (we all have one. There are many, but still only a finite number of eligible candidates) and if they are really at a bit of a loss concerning the future direction of the franchise, they may throw a few screentests at the wall, see what sticks and from there look for a director to make a film around this and then have Purvis and Wade, the director and some hired gun script doctors hammer out a shooting script.
I don't think it would be the right approach, but I also don't think it's impossible they go that way.

It's very plausible they want to vett their actor a little harder this time, bring them in creatively sooner, to find one who doesn't default to "my job sucks" after two movies.

I love Xenia's voice in that dub. She was also Nicole Kidman's voice in The Peacemaker.

And much like Pierce himself evolved in his performance, his voice actor loosened up a bit when he came back for Die Another Day. He's my favorite of the three voice actors Brosnan had.

Never thought he had a very strong voice either.

No doubt his is the weakest of the bunch , but he had a smoothness and charisma that countered it. Not to keep beating up on him , but ATJ has neither and has a Whiney quality that Brosnan doe not.

Antonio Banderas reportedly wants Tom Holland to play Zorro, but I think Aidan Turner or the other favoured actors suggested here would be more suitable.

I watched that Bullet Train video that was posted earlier and yes, ATJ has a weak, fairly high voice. Compared to him, Brosnan is Simon Keenlyside.

They can just slow down the tape whenever he speaks.

I can't imagine him being big enough for it, I haven't seem him be much fun. I could picture Oscar Isaac doing it well.

Another option. First scene, at the doctor.

    - Sorry, James, it seems when you crashed your DB5 into that helium truck, you inhaled enough gas to last for five films. It'll take a while to expel it all.
    - (In high-pitched voice) That's alright, doctor. I'm sure we can find a way to pass the time. (Leans in for a kiss.)
    - No way, I don't kiss men whose voices are higher than mine.

Exactly, plenty of ways to get around it. Get James Earl Jones to dub him?

Or cast actors whose voices are as high-pitched as his, if not more so.

    The possibilities are endless.

Bond was rendered deaf by Stacy, so he just uses sign language.

What's with this voicism? I don't get it. What do people have against an actor with a high voice? It's not his fault that he was born with a high voice. We have more than enough capable actors with deep voices but I want high-voiced actors to get a -- uh -- voice via Bond. I'm not going to be the one telling ATJ and all the other high-voice people out there that they can never be Bond because of something they were born with. Don't tell me it's an aesthetic opinion, because that doesn't fly; it's an attack against all men of the high-voice persuasion. This is 2022—shame on you all.

Problems with the 'voice' of the actor (if there even is one here, which is debatable to say the least) can be a bit like having an accent which isn't the same as the characters'. Most of the picks in this thread will have to in some way adapt their voice to Bond if they audition. Many have accents from regional parts of the UK which is very distinct from even Daniel Craig's (I know he's from Chester but much like Roger Moore's RADA influenced voice it's a very 'neutralised' accent). It'll probably be the same situation with pitch, so it really depends on the actor's ability to adapt their voice to their roles, and how expressive they are.

Anyway, I don't think Johnson is a sure bet. In fact I'd say he's unlikely to get the role even if he is actually auditioning. Still, good actor and I'm sure he could be involved in a Bond film even if he isn't our next lead.

I'm warming to the idea of Aaron Taylor Johnson....even though I've never heard his voice.
My hunch is the next Bond will be in his thirties, and would've been born around the time SKYFALL came out.
So we've got plenty of time to speculate......................

Twenty years until Bond #7 is announced, so.

While he's a favourite of mine, it's also my opinion: the first actors auditioned are rarely chosen, despite their talents (Sam Neill for example).

Yes, I know what you mean. They want a solid actor to audition in order to get the ball rolling. Possibly even one to use as a sort of 'safety net' actor in case others don't work out. Like I said, I wouldn't place a bet on Johnson being the next Bond, but the guy's definitely a good actor. Heck, why couldn't he play a younger villain?

I certainly would've loved seeing what Sam Neill could've done in the role. I love his work.

Neil was definitely a solid choice. I'm glad he got the chance to audition. But I do think the series needed someone like Dalton with his investment in evoking Fleming's Bond (or perhaps in an alternate universe/with a different film, Brosnan with his movie star charisma and looks).

They need an actor in Hugh Jackman mold. He can be charming and light (Moore) , but he’s also capable of unparalleled physicality and intensity ( Craig). Jackman also fully embraced his signature character and let the world know how grateful he was that was playing Wolverine. Bond needs all of these qualities from it’s lead actor.

Same. And I'm curious what Bond 16 would have been with him - considering TLD would probably have been pretty much similar to what the actual movie ultimately is. Like Lewis Collins, I wouldn't have been surprised if the series moved towards darker territories; maybe not as much as dark as Licence To Kill was, but still darker than Octopussy.

My guess is that Sevond will be born circa 1988-1990, so he will be either 34 or 35.

It'd be nice if the next actor had a better experience playing Bond than perhaps Craig had during moments of his tenure. Not saying he was mistreated, and we need to keep in mind that his pay check is far more than most of us will see during our lifetime. But he did go through a number of broken bones, bruises, sprained limbs etc. Not to mention the stress, long hours, contractural requirements etc. Much like how Connery's issues with the producers/the requirements of being James Bond were ironed out when Moore got the part (affable as he was) I suspect much of these problems will also be kept in mind when the new actor is cast.

Yes an actor modulates his voice in function of the character he plays, but it's easier if he's already a natural baritone. I'm not saying ATJ or any actor with a higher voice should not be Bond, but it's an aspect that will worry me.
