Does that mean you only watch YOLT, TND, TSWLM, MR, DAD and DAF in the morning? ;)

It means I very rarely watch them, except YOLT, because I find this one so charming (Japan, Barry, the cinematography…). I would prefer a "ristretto" or "espresso" in the morning, a cup of QoS for example would be perfect to start the day ;)

Ow okay, in Italy one wouldn’t consume cappuccino after 11 a.m. (except for tourists of course :)) ), so that’s where I came from. Nevertheless, in Bond terms I’m sure a good shot of QOS will definitely get you into gear for the rest of the day ;)

    A few changes for 2021:
FYEO has really climbed up (pun intended) the rankings after a few enjoyable rewatches. Such a classic.

NTTD knocked out of the top 10 for the reason above.

Have had very little desire to watch TSWLM, even though it’s an old favorite. Seems very cartoonish.

Spectre down a few spots - slightly bored on a recent rewatch.

Here's my first go at this. I'm doing this list just on how much I enjoy watching them. I'm aware that as a movie, No Time to Die is crafted much better than, say, Diamonds are Forever. But it's devoid of any Bondian fun for me, and a few months in it's the one Bond film I'll end up watching less than all the others in the series.
And for all its faults, Die Another Day is an entertaining popcorn flick that says goodbye to a whole era for me.

@ColonelAdamski It's very interesting to have OHMSS as #1 and NTTD as #25, since NTTD is obviously trying to speak to the OHMSS fans. It shows that beneath the surface, these two are deeply different Bond films. OHMSS is a kind of miracle in the way it delivers on both Bondian fun and serious emotional story.

Attempting to rank No Time To Die…

Time may be better or worse for this one - it’s hard for me to rank currently due to my feelings about certain plot developments. It’s a very well made film, no doubt about that.

The numbers are in comparison to my last Bond rankings on this forum. I feel like there’s an argument to be made that any of my bottom four could be the “worst” but Bond at his worst is still Bond and I enjoy them for what they are.

    1. From Russia With Love (+0)
    2. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (+0)
    3. Casino Royale (+0)
    4. Goldfinger (+0)
    5. GoldenEye (+1)
    6. Dr. No (+2)
    7. Skyfall (-3)
    8. Licence To Kill (-1)
    9. Quantum of Solace (+1)
    10. Octopussy (+1)
    11. You Only Live Twice (+2)
    12. The Living Daylights (-3)
    13. The Spy Who Loved Me (-1)
    14. The World Is Not Enough (+4)

    16. No Time To Die
    17. Live And Let Die (-1)
    18. For Your Eyes Only (-1)
    19. The Man With The Golden Gun (+4)

Sorry, but I will always defend SP, love loads of it, coming after the disappointing SF, loved it in the cinema, and still enjoy watching it!

Yeah my third viewing of NTTD was my most enjoyable. It's nicely settled upper mid-tier at the moment. I can barely watch SP all the way through anymore. Shame, because the train fight is fantastic.

Its a shame you dont find more to enjoy in SP, mate! I found (and still find) SF a struggle to sit through, and though SP could do a lot of scenes better, I just find it more entertaining, love the pts, the scene in Bonds apartment, the whole of the section in Rome from the funeral to the encounter with Monica, and Bond taking out the hitmen, the Spectre meeting and the second half ,at least, of the car chase. The Mr. White scene, and I know it comes in for a lot of bashing but I really enjoy the plane set piece, L'Americain, and of course, that fantastic train fight, and I like the first encounter with Blofeld in the Meteor room. Its after this that it goes off for me, huge mistake to return to Britain, and its a sloppy last section, but the majority of the film is still good for me.

Oh it has some good stuff in it. As a whole though it's a really ill thought out mess.

The only clunker in Craig's era which isn't bad going at all.

I'm glad you mentioned the word 'fun', because I think it's a very important ingredient for a Bond film. And I don't mean like a Tarzan yell type of fun, I mean the fun that comes from seeing Bond being a cool, tough ladykiller, always coming out on top. Which is why OHMSS is top of my list, and NTTD is bottom.

But Tracy dies at the end of OHMSS, Bond hardly comes out on top in that film.
It's his lowest point in that respect.

Nah, he wouldn't have lasted long being a married man anyway.

OHMSS doesn't leave you feeling deflated like NTTD does, that's what I mean.

It's his lowest point in that respect.

Nah, he wouldn't have lasted long being a married man anyway.

OHMSS doesn't leave you feeling deflated like NTTD does, that's what I mean.

The murder of Tracy and Bond cradling her in his arms crying, doesn't leave you deflated?
    You're a cold man @ColonelAdamski
Personally I enjoy both ending's for what they are. But neither make me smile. Majesty's can still bring a tear to my eye, and NTTD ends the Craig era for me with no loose ends. It wraps up his tenure like no other.

At the end of OHMSS I am saddened because I buy into the whole thing and I care. At the end of N!TTD I was just pissed because killing Bond is just bad form.

BTW, last time I watched OHMSS I followed it up with the PTS of FYEO to watch an insane(r), broke, crippled, henchman-less & pathetic Blofeld fail for the very last time. Most pleasing.

To be honest, I can never connect with movies the same way I can with novels. I don't think I've ever cried over a movie, and certainly not a Bond movie. So no, I don't feel deflated at the end of OHMSS. I do at NTTD, but that's not because I'm involved with the story so much as I'm just incredulous over what they did.
Anyway, yea, OHMSS has a downbeat ending, but I still think it's a great fun movie.

    Same.

There’s a sense at the end of OHMSS of “watch out, this guy is gonna get revenge”. It probably should have been followed up by something in the vein of QOS, but alas… 12 year wait later and FYEO sorta fills that void.

NTTD just feels like a clear end. Really depends on my mood — sometimes I hate it, but sometimes I am at peace with their decision.

Honestly I have never felt that the way Lazemby reacts is an expression of "revenge feelings". The whole final scene reflects sadness and grief. Today revenge movies are very popular so fans are all demanding a classic revenge story in response to Tracy's murder.

A proper YOLT follow up, handled similarly, would have been fulfilling. Worth noting that in the novels the only two times where Fleming describes Bond as being in a frenzy, a killing rage, it is against his two most famous enemies, and this manifests itself in both instances by Bond physically strangling them, Goldfinger and Blofeld, to death with his barehands. Fleming's Bond is still my favorite Bond by a lightyear.

I agree. If you re going to pretend someone is the real deal, none other competes.
