Capshaw does the best she can from some poorly written material. It's less the screaming than the perpetual nagging, her greediness or the overlong scenes (the dinner) that get annoying in the first half of the movie, while, other than her looks, she doesn't have a lot of redeeming features. And at some point, she's attracted to Indy, not because of some organic development that had occurred in front of our eyes until then, but because the script simply has her switching from nagging to romantic.

    That's why it feels organic. It's not a story by committee- it's living, breathing creation. Based upon pure emotion. Not that it's the best way to do cinema, but it's WAAAY better than just a formulation by a group that all need to agree (KOTCS).

    I've always liked TEMPLE OF DOOM and WIllie's character.
    They had great chemistry, I thought. It's fun film.

    No, Willie is part of what drags ToD down for me. You've got a strong, dark story and a kid sidekick for that, so why add in a screaming fish-out-of-water character except a romantic interest was a necessary part of films back then.

    Between her and Stacey Sutton of AVTAK, it makes you wonder what was up with writing female characters in action films in the mid '80s.

    She’s a better actress than Stacey, for one. I never cringe at any of her line delivery. I think she really nails the Hollywood brat archetype.

    I thought Kate Capshaw was funny in Temple of Doom, even with her hysterics Kate has charm.

    The relationship between Indy and Short Round is much more fleshed and fulfilling than the one with Willie. It's actually one of the best things in the film. They were able to defy stereotypes with the kid. It owes a lot to the child actor, but it's there in the script. That's why it's a little disappointing to me that they embraced stereotypes with a vengeance for the love interest.

    I’m currently in the middle of the “War Years” for the Young Indiana Jones show and am pleasantly surprised by how well these actually are. “Trenches of War” and “Phantom Train of Doom” are the highlights so far. Honestly as good as the movies. It’s got the adventurous spirit, but what makes it stand out is that it doesn’t hold back on the horrors of World War I. One that stood out was when the Germans tossed a can of gas into the trenches of Indy’s unit, but one of the soldiers doesn’t have a mask, and Indy can’t help but watch his fellow soldier coughing to death from the gas. Really makes me think how it might have turned out had the Indy films continued into the 90s and we saw Indy fighting in World War II. Imagine Spielberg directing an Indy film in the style of Saving Private Ryan. May have been a departure of tone, but war should always feel unrelenting and that’s exactly the vibe I get from Indy’s battles in WWI. It’s quite admirable that the show even has the guts to present characters we’re supposed to like and then as soon as you do they’re killed off. And we see Indy and the remaining unit captured as POWs, with Indy wondering if his friend Remy is among the survivors but can’t find him.


    Also, gotta love this tweet by Amblin featuring a “Steven” in the profile name. ;)

    At this point I think it's safe to say Sallah will be back, despite the non-PC nature of the role. They are taking a huge risk with this in my opinion.

    Ugh, I wish they’d leave Sallah out. I want this to be a unique Indy adventure, not a nostalgia trip like THE LAST CRUSADE and CRYSTAL SKULL were, annoyingly.

    Yes, bringing him back would make me a little concerned that we'd be going down this route to some extent- he was good but I have no particular desire to see him again. Still, if he is in it I guess we'd have to see what their reason for bringing him back is.
    I agree that liking that tweet does seem a bit of a hint.

    Kind of odd that Mangold hasn't tweeted about Ford's injury that I've seen, bearing in mind it's the only official statement we've really had since they started filming.

    I'm probably more of a fan of John Rhys-Davies than the character of Sallah, but I would love to see him return in this one.

    Bringing back a beloved old character and then disrespecting them massively is basic to current film-making IMO.

    Also, I’m worried about CGI. Now that Ford has injured himself rehearsing for a fight scene, I don’t think they’re going to risk him on physical fights any more. So, his fights will now be CGI.

    I feel a bit of a lone voice but I am worried that this film could turn out to be heartbreakingly disappointing.

    It’s ok to be cautious, there are some warning signs, and some big expectations. Keep those low, and it’s just another Indiana Jones movie, for better or worse. I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney turned Indy into their Bond franchise, if just for a little while.

    I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney turned Indy into their Bond franchise, if just for a little while.

    I wish they would, to be honest.
    The first three will always be on a pedestal, and that's fine- they're amazing. But then so was Goldfinger, and I'm really happy they kept making Bond films after that! :D

    (Although I love Bond and the whole 007 series, I do think that the first three Indy films are each better than than any one Bond film- they're pretty perfectly crafted and slick where even the best Bond looks a bit ragged in comparison)

    @CraigMooreOHMSS Fake. It's by the same guy who posted the previous "leaked title" and "leaked concept art" and other stuff he "saw on reddit". It seems that person CRAVES the attention and will very likely strike again, so better be careful! (Btw, I have no idea why he does not post all these fake stuff directly on reddit instead of posting them elsewhere and pretending he saw them on reddit...)

    I hope it's really pulpy and silly. That's one thing Lucas had a good eye for.

    Originally the idea was that the series would be called 'Raiders of...' each time: they wanted to make three right from the start but didn't intend them to each be titled 'Indiana Jones and...' . But I guess because they had so much energy at the time they decided to call the follow-up 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' which is just about the most exciting movie title ever :D

    Apparently a two month shutdown is now likely. What on earth were they thinking when they allowed Ford to do scenes where he can get injured like this??
