Julian McMahon was Michael Wilson's choice but Barbara had edge on him with Craig.

I can see why as in Nip Tuck he is suave, mean, cool and charming. Great show.

He’s got the physical presence too. But, he also can come across a tad ‘slimy’.

Also, he’s (yes, I am a broke record 😉) not British.

I think McMahon would've come across quite sleazy imo :/

I love Nip/Tuck and I was a supporter of Dr. Troy and James Bond when he was in consideration. He looked the part no doubt.

I didn't know that, it's interesting. As much as I like Craig a lot, especially since Skyfall, insofar as he get older, his physique, notably his facial features, lends himself more to the role, McMahon would certainly have been a more Bondian choice. To be honest, I would have loved to see this: the same Casino Royale, but with this alternate choice.

I wasn’t even aware he screen tested to be honest. Is there a source of proof for this?

He's on the list of candidates we knew of at the time (the people reporting it seemed pretty sure and I remember they'd even said they'd seen a couple of the tests); the ones we know (and it seems not all of them tested):

Sounds like it might have been down to Craig, Cavill, Friend and possibly Worthington, but it seems less certain how that went down.

Looking at those names, we're lucky we got Craig. As much as I like Friend in Homeland, he wasn't experienced enough for Bond at that stage of his career. Had Craig not decided to do Bond 25 and it then had come out two years ago, Friend would have been ideal. I'm kind of dreading the next actor. I sense it might be someone I don't like or feel in the part. Craig was my choice. That was even before he was considered for the part. I dread Cavill getting the part. I keep saying I think it's Jack Lowden. I have this feeling. Nothing scientific; just a gut feeling.

Few of the names on the list above stand out. A few of them suggest we clearly dodged a bullet.

    David Morrissey!
    Christian Solimeno!
    Ingo Rademacher!
    Daniel Goddard!
    WOW!

EON are known to test actors between films and while the current Bond is still in the role.
They potentially have a short list of actors they'd like to test. But we'll probably not find out.
And then we have the tabloid BS to contend with, with Craig actually hangs up the shoulder holster officially.

Funny that two of the leads of Amazon's The Boys are there :) Homelander as Bond.. maybe!

I think Friend is looking a strong candidate, especially if that article is correct in saying they liked him last time.

I wouldn't complain if it was him though it would feel weird suddenly being older then 007 (Pattison is still a few months older then me so I am still younger then both the current bond and Batman) but it is bound to happen eventually unless the world really does end and the current Macgyver is younger then me so it is what it is.

We indeed are damn lucky we got Daniel Craig. The only ones from that list that stand out to me are Starr and Urban. Friend might've been and might be good, but I don't know. I guess I've been spoiled by Craig, finding a replacement who's worthwhile for me is difficult. Only Aiden Turner (there I go, bringing him up again. Deal with it.) feels right and ready to step into the role.

    Interesting. Thanks for that.

    I’m glad we got Craig.

Dougray Scott would be an interesting test to see, as well as Juilan McMahon.

Some random’s on that list too.

Yes I have been enjoying Urban a lot recently. I don't know if he'd have been the right fit but I think he'd have been fun to watch regardless. Starr is an interesting idea. Visnjic has a lot of presence in the things I've seen him in.

I'd certainly be curious to see those Cavill auditions one day to see how he impressed them. I expect we never will though.

I think it's interesting how a number of them have seen their profiles rise since Eon looked to them for Bond: it seems they know who to look at.

Does anyone have a rock of salt big enough for this?!

Apparently, a lot of people who regularly read the site are totally running with the story. People tell me they’re trustworthy, but that this is the first time they report on Bond.
Other Bond fans are saying it’s “a useful four-letter word”. I tend to agree with that last one.

Oh, great. I'll probably get several phone calls by relatives/friends/acquaintances asking me what I think of Tom Hardy's casting.
I maintain the firm belief that casting the next Bond is still years away.

Four years ago, the rumor went around that Theo James was cast as the next Bond. Just like then, this is bullshit until EON actually announces the seventh actor officially, and that will definitely be some time after NTTD is out of theaters, if not already on blu-ray and streaming.

Also they'd have to have actually started figured out a concept for and started writing Bond 26 for them to even know what they're gonna do with the actor.
