@mtm Question: Are you behind that cool NTTD-poster with inspiration from the old Octopussy-poster?

Thanks, yeah- that's me :) I posted it here in the Fan Art thread earlier:

It would be cool if you could produce a run of these, and have them for sale for MI6 Community members; like an official MI6 Fan Poster for NTTD... I wonder if you wouldn't be allowed to sell it though...

Anyway I know you'd sell tons! And I'd be first in line!

Thanks: a few people have asked but, yeah: I can’t sell it as the IP isn’t mine to profit from. If you see it for sale it’s someone who’s nicked it and it won’t be a print quality image! I also put the fold lines on there to dissuade people from trying to sell printouts.

Have you lads seen this? Sam Mendes SPEAKS. Says making our beloved Bond NOT A HEALTHY WAY TO WORK. Claims when he thinks of Bond HIS STOMACH CHURNS.

    Sigh.

Let's not overreact and overlook this key quote, here, from Mendes: "It’s just so hard. You feel like the England football manager. You think, if I win, I’ll survive. If I lose, I’ll be pilloried. There is no victory. Just survival."

He's right. This isn't worthy of criticism but it'll come. And Mendes haters will use this article as ammunition.

I was sighing at the way Benjamin "introduced" it.

    No Time To Sigh!

It's the same reason I think Cary shouldn't direct Bond 26, even if he's good....so he doesn't undermine the potential good work he has done with NTTD. Mendes thought he could achieve with SP what he did with SF....but ended up almost repeating himself. That's why Campbell wisely took time off & returned for CR.

Reading between the lines here Mendes doesn’t particularly like the way Eon work and operate. He also indicates yes you can’t please all Bond fans.

Eon gave him huge creative space and also paid him a fortune. Mendes is very privileged. Always has been. He has no idea how lucky he has been. I like SF, but he f*cked up SP.

I'd have to go back to the latest edition of Field & Chowdhury to conform this, but the issues with SP began with the script. By all accounts, Mendes had limited input on the script, because Logan "delivered" it to him some time in summer or fall of 2014. Mendes was not at all happy with it. That's why Butterworth was brought in. The script was still a mess.

If any blame is to fall, here, it is with Babs and Michael for not delaying production. I believe that this is what Mendes is alluding to. The script was not ready or was not in a good place. And everyone knew it. But they started filming anyway.

From a cinematic POV, SP was solid and looked almost as good as SF. It had many elements a great Bond film needs. The film was ultimately disappointing because of a wide variety of mistakes, by many talented people, not just Mendes.

Yeah I was watching Thunderball the other day and thinking a similar thing: everyone is at the peak of their powers, the whole Bond machine is slick and full of swagger, it’s beautifully made, the music is amazing, Connery is at his best, the guest cast are beautiful, the locations are stunning, the direction is assured, the gags are good... and yet it ends up being really boring. Sometimes everything can be perfect but it just ends up not coming together.

I can see what Mendes is saying. The series has been around for so long that you have factions of fans looking for completely different things. So while you please one group, you will alienate another group. And it's not just the actors and the style of Bond they play. It's the type of plot, the amount of action, the type of action, etc.

That's why I'm hoping that if everyone is happy with everyone that Cary and Craig will return for Bond 26, begin pre-production quickly, and just have as drama-free and uneventful as possible Bond movie to turn the page on the difficulty Mendes, Boyle, and whomever else have had with SP and NTTD. Get it released in November 2022, no drama, no director/screenwriter/composer/etc change, bring as much of the crew from this one back as possible, and spare us all what the last 2 movies have brought.

I hate to keep re-using the word, but there's only one word you can use to describe the post-Skyfall Bond production: drama. No more.

Unfortunately describes my thoughts on TB exactly. Rewatching it now and I just find it quite over long and bloated in a lot of sections, despite being as classic as they come, filled with some of the best Bond girls the series has to offer, and some gorgeous locales and ambitious action sequences and set pieces.

Not exactly news, but he didn't say it that explicitly in the past. I can understand him. On the other hand I wouldn't want another Bond film from him. So for me the universe is in ballance ;-).

Personally, I like my Bond films to have a dash of reality in terms of plot. The comments section on that article indicates otherwise, so hopefully the political overtones are neutral or at a minimum otherwise it may result in further financial doom for the picture.

same here this film is getting too political craig says bond is now a socialist democrat (even though bond is benefiting from capitalism) craig donated 47k to sanders back in 2015 when he wasn't a us citizen yet how is that not political interference. anyways. They are going to lose so much money if they continue on this path.

I’m a hardcore Bond fan and have seen every Bond film made since LALD I’m the cinema. I am super excited about NTTD and think it will be a spectacular film , but with statements like this , and extremely inflammatory statements made by Jeffrey Wright, it’s getting more like that I’ll pass on seeing this in a theater.
Some may say that’s cutting of my nose to to spite my face but it’s how I choose to express myself in reaction to the actors who want me to to put down my hard earned money to see their film. .

I think he was specifically talking about "grandstanding", as he went on to talk about Bond being someone who just gets on with his job. It was the article that referenced Boris and Trump. Craig described Bond as someone who just "gets on with it".

As for his donation to Bernie? Who gives a toss. He's an actor. He and Bond are not one and the same, and he has described how different he and the character are as people before.

Outside of Bond, he can do what he wants with his money, as long as he does a good job on screen. Which he always has.

Honestly, why the hell does it matter what actor Daniel Craig does with his private money? Why does it matter what opinions Jeffrey Wright tweets? Why does it matter Barbara Broccoli held a dinner party in support of Michael Bloomberg?

It has zero to do with a Bond film. Zero. When Craig said they can’t ignore Trump and Brexit, we have NO IDEA what that means for NTTD, and in which way these topics are brought up. In fact, Craig argues that while these things happening in the world can’t be ignored in a Bond film, he also says that they don’t want to make the film overtly political. BB has said the same in the past.

I get that you might not agree with certain opinions and points of view made by certain actors and crew on a Bond film. But those are their private opinions, it does not impact the film itself. They’re not stupid to alienate certain people.

James Bond in the EON movies, is apolitical. He always has been, and likely always will be.

My Omega boutique here in Vancouver has a huge NTTD display right now, but oddly they aren’t displaying the NTTD Seamaster. They do have the box with the two OHMSS watches however. I wish I had money. 😭

They have to start fresh after NTTD so If this one is mediocre or poorly recieved expect a lengthy gap
