I suspect that Madeleine has made Bond go back to Matera to confront Vesper's grave. It's clearly a wound for him and she wants him to deal with his demons. She's a psychologist, so I assume that this will be discussed in the film.

Also, who else thought thi coat was ugly in the trailer.

There are sooooooooo many 'Dad Jackets' in NTTD.

The jacket does not appear to be something Bond would wear. It does, however, look like something Safin would wear. DC's Bond has stolen others' clothes before.

It also doesn't really match the rest of DC's outfit to the point where he must have stolen it, imo.

I did wonder if he wore it to perhaps hide a big gun under it or something, but who knows. It certainly is an odd look: do we even know which country he's in there?

Filmed in Scotland but it’s likely Russia, given the car plates...

Could be, although he’s then driving the old Toyota which is on Norwegian(ish) plates, isn’t he? Plus we’ve seen them all driving along the Atlantic Road which surely can’t be pretending to be anything other than itself..?
I think my guess would be all of the helicopter/Toyota/Land Rover/Aston DBS/snowy forest stuff is Norway.

The Toyota car plate is from Norway, no doubt, but on the other hand there's an army of Land Rover with Russian ones... without forgetting that the V8 is part of the Atlantic Road chase as well. One thing is certain: they all come from the same big scene, and after Bond "fails" to protect Swann, Nomi comes by with the Superleggera and they likely team up. Plus I think the Valhalla has been replaced by the DBS.

That scene with Bond along the side of the road, with no gun or urgency in his step, seems more like an end to something than a beginning.

Do we think the sequence proceeds or follows the scene where Bond meets Safin?

I think it goes in the following order:
    1. Bond and Madeleine go to confront Safin
    2. It goes wrong and she gets kidnapped during a chase
    3. Bond is left stranded on the roadside and is forced to chase after Safin to save Madeleine.
    4. This is when Nomi cathes up with him - and they team up.
    5. They raid the base. This is Bond wears the jumper.
I'm curious how much Safin we get. He's going to appear early in the film - but do we have to wait for the third act for him to meet Bond?

Well sure. I think it’s the end of the forest chase where Bond fails to protect Swann that gets kidnapped by Ash. Right after Bond looking at the helicopter flying away, likely headed to Safin’s liar in some remote island.

Maybe the first time we see Safin without the mask will be in the third act? @Pierce2Daniel

Hope we get a gunbarrel at the start much like how it was in Spectre to get back on track with tradition. One thing i don't like abt the Craig era is that the gunbarrel for all the movies have been a mess. We finally got a proper gunbarrel for Craig at the opening of a Bond movie 9 yrs after the first one which was his 4th film. Incredible really.

Well that’s not surprising. Over the last 15 years EoN’s approach has been focused on “deconstructing” the character and basically none of the Craig entries is a “straightforward standalone adventure with no personal stuff”.

I really hope the Gunbarrel is at the beginning with the proper guitar riff, once the blood drips down.

I thought they were constructing the whole time. Casino Royale establishing Bond and key elements of the Bond formula. The gunbarrel. The car chase (and crash). Getting captured and tortured by the villain. The sacrificial lamb.

Later Moneypenny and Q. More gadgets. The global plot. The warrior henchman. The return of Blofeld and SPECTRE. All played out across four films.

And from that standpoint with NTTD it seems EoN is following this path with even more "subversive" energy, so to speak, even tho the film totally looks and feels like a big epic Bond film.

Yeah, Craig even mentioned in some SP interview that this was the overall plan. To bring back certain signature elements gradually throughout the films. But even if this is pretty a fact, they never stopped deconstructing those elements. Just think about the "classic" Moneypenny teased at the end of SF. Yeah, in SP she's staying behind the desk, but this time she is the one who makes jokes on Bond and refuses to have sex with him.

Yeah, but I think it should have opened proper in SF. But Mendes had some excuse of the opening shot been too identical with the Gunbarrel. We could understand Forster wanting it at the end of QoS to close the events of CR. Coz SF was really looking like a return to standalone Bond films.

in the trailer Nomi says she has been a 00 for 2 years , why not 5 years ? Does this mean that Jamaica is set 2 years after Spectre and that there will be a time jump within the film to present day ? Or if Jamaica is present day does this indicate she isn't 007 , why is there a 3 year discrepancy ?

Mendes was right about the gun barrel being at the end of SF.

Double 0 have a short life expectancy. BTW Matera seems right after SP, while Jamaica 100% present day.

Maybe no one has been promoted for 3 years, or maybe the new agents were given other numbers.

Isn´t Bond in the tunnel pointing his gun at the camera the gun barrell?

No. That scene is from the third act.

I guess if she had been on the cusp of being a double O five years ago there’s a chance Bond would have actually known her. If it was three years later then it’s more believable that their paths haven’t crossed before.
Also she would have been 27, which might be a bit young (although maybe not).

That's what I think/hope. Something I wished they'd picked up from CR: integrate the gunbarrel to the narrative of the PTS.

Won't happen this time around. I'm wondering if the final shot of the trailer has been made just for marketing purposes, since it comes from the third act.

I agree @matt_u it's a cool shot but looks too staged to be in the film.

Are we 100% sure it comes for the last act? Not being a contrarian as it would make sense. Still nice shot.

The costume Craig is wearing definitely places it in the last act.

Could make for a great scene.

But anyway, I wished that they'd make a gunbarrel sequence integrated to the PTS for the whole Craig era.

Would be a cool gun barrell though.
