I have to say, she wasn't bad in the Thor films at all.

Oh, she's just great in anything she's in. She's like Grace Kelly that way.
  • Brothers, but I think she is terrific in most films.

I quite like her in HEAT too, though she gets to play a disturbed girl and I usually react very poorly to that kind of characters.

Leon for sure! But after dark? Black Swan! ;)

I have only seen a few of her films and some were crap.

    #1 is Leon/The Professional
    #2 is Black Swan

She was fantastic in both. :)

She´s great in it, but I´m a little annoyed by the character she plays.

That is true as far as I have seen her.

Black Swan appears to be a polarizing film.

I completely forgot about Mars Attacks, period.
Anyway, I'd have to vote for V for Vendetta.

I quite like it, but sometimes I feel like Arronofsky is a little too ´inspired´ by Roman Polanski and various Japanese directors, as in this film. At times it felt like a watered down version of Repulsion or The Tenant, in my opinion. But there´s constant tension, great acting, etc. Still very much worth the watch. (:

</b>Is Avatar (still) the very best in CGI filmmaking?</font>

I don't think it is. Seeing Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, I think CGI has evolved even after Avatar. It was ground-breaking then but Apes improved upon it IMO. Another film that gave me more CGI thrills was Tron: Legacy, though my love for the world of Tron may have something to do with that. ;-)

Wait... It was the best in CGI filmmaking?!

That's why I put the "(still)" in the topic, to make the claim itself debatable. ;-)

Tron: Legacy & Oblivion are both better IMO.

Got to be honest, I have not seen Avatar! It has never really appealed to me to be honest?

Since I look more favorably on a certain para-surfing scene in a certain film, I'm going to have to say Avatar was never a good-looking CGI film.

Actually, Serenity had some pretty amazing CGI in it...

I never contemplated if Avatar ever was the best CGI in filmmaking. At least I don´t remember doing so, because my interest in the film vey quickly waned.
The best lasting CGI impressions I would say are from Jurassic Park and T2, because in those two films the CGI even nowadays still blends in nicely into the realistic-looking suroundings.

Avatar may have been ground-breaking in the amount of CGI used. But given the painting-like look of many elements, I wouldn´t say it ever was ground-breaking in the sense of realistic-looking CGI.

I´m not sure how ironic you are right now, I always was amazed how well the film flies despite its bad CGI ;-).

  • There´s been videogames with better CGI than Avatar. BUT, even though I didn´t like Avatar very much the first time I saw it, I have to say they made the best use of it... I can´t think of any other film in which it felt as necessary.

Six thousand droids vs. six thousand clones in Star Wars Episode II fits that bill quite well.

Her first landing looked a bit off, but the whole rest of the movie looked great IMO. Why? What shots did you think were lacking?

I discovered Smith at the time of Dogma and went back to Clerks, Mallrats and later on went to see Clerks II and my favourite of his: Zack And Miri Make A Porno. Chasing Amy is on my to-see list. I'm not bothered by Smith's films, or at least the ones I've seen so far, and I love Z&M, but I'm not wild about them.

However, I do like Smith as a human being. I have watched his "Evening With Kevin Smith" DVD's more frequently than his movies and I love his cameo in Die Hard 4.

Even more than that, I'm a fan of his work for the Batman comic books. Cacophony and The Widening Gyre are great efforts, IMO. For people who have read tons of Batman comics, these two are exceptionally amusing.

Smith is an okay man in my book. I can dig his kind of humour but I have yet to see a Smith movie that I'd give five stars (out of five).
