Well, it would seem to me that John Glen should be the best, considering his run as director was the longest, the only one of the 1980s, and many of his were big successes. I'd probably give it to John Glen, and then Martin Campbell for bringing us GE and CR.

    say...
    GLEN > LTK, TLD
HAMILTON > DAF, GF, TMWTGG, LALD
    HUNT > OHMSS
    YOUNG > TB
CAMPBELL > GE, CR are my top 5

    GILBERT > YOLT and
FOSTER > QOS round out my list for now

But Glen's directing was so dull... He was very by-the-numbers. He shot the films within the limits of the budget and schedule... Try to watch FYEO, OP, AVTAK, TLD and LTK and strickly analyze the cinematography... you will fall asleep before the end of the PTS.

On his first 3 Bonds, yes. But TLD & LTK more than make up for anything he did before.

    So i'll go with Glen.

Lee Tamahori! Die Another Day should have won a Best Picture Oscar.

(I hope all of you sense that VERY heavy sarcasm.)

My favorite Bond director is Martin Campbell. He re-ignited Bond twice, in a very, very good way.

How is that possible? :P They ARE the Bond directors. There are no others. You're bound to have a favourite one among those.

A pretty spot on assessment indeed

Considering that all of John Glen's movies are in my top ten, GoldenEye is my favorite Bond movie, and Casino Royale is excellently made, I'd say it comes down to a tie between John Glen and Martin Campbell.

Martin Campbell for me: favorite Bond film, along with one in my Top 3.

Glen. He made the Dalton films. Nuff said.

I like Campbell, Young, Hunt, Gilbert, Apted and Hamilton though.

    Terence Young (style and sophistication)
Peter Hunt (staying true to Fleming)
Martin Campbell (Delivering when it mattered)

    Least favourite: That Man Hamilton!

Favorites for me: Martin Campbell, Lewis Gilbert (I love TSWLM), and Terence Young. Hoping to add Mendes to that list.
    Yep, adding Mendes now (12/28).

My thoughts exactly, i wish Hunt had done DAF at least.

hopefully Mendes will be added our lists in the near future.

Seeing as I'm a firm believer that there's no such thing as a bad Bond film, I don't hold contempt for any director. Especially these days, where the films are so big and it takes a lot of balls to come up and try put your own stamp on the series. Nearly all of them work, but for me, the one who worked best will always be Terence Young.

Would have to be the following:
    1 Guy Hamilton
    2 Terence Young
    3 Martin Cambell
    4 Peter Hunt
    5 John Glen

    If I ranked them-

    1. Martin Campbell and John Glen
    2. Roger Spottiswoode (TND is incredible!)
    3. Guy Hamilton (DAF, LALD, and even TMWTGG)
    4. Terrence Young (a little overrated I think, but FRWL and TB are still good examples of his work)
    5. Michael Apted
    6. Marc Forster
    7. Lee Tamahori (at least he knew how to do action sequences)
    8. Peter Hunt (OHMSS is....well.....pretty lame)

    5. Michael Apted

    7. Guy Hamilton
    8. Lee Tamahori
    9. Martin Campbell
    10. Marc Forster

I take a look who have the best influence on other crew members/actors. John Glen direct a lot of my moost favorite Bond movies with a lot of return people and also edit a couple of movies and be advicer.. Lewis Gilbert not only be directer but also advicer. Lee Tamahori be very bad inspiration, whyle Marc forster deliever a new costume designer and production designer and some older Bond feeling return. The reasen that i stil give him a low place is the possible influence on Bond 24 whyle i think moost influence of that comes from Daniel Craig. Lee Tamahori, mess with Bond rules, include Michael Madsen in Bond but this les problem for me then having the 24 subject or what i think Bond 24 going to be.

I would've voted Martin Campbell, but Young's work on Bond was consistently excellent whereas with Campbell, I very much prefer CR to GE. I only wish Hunt had done more Bond films after OHMSS

I think Young and Campbell are the best but I gotta vote for Glen b/c this is the decade I grew up in and became a Bond fan.

It's a bit of a three-way tie for me, and all for good reason, between Terrence Young, Peter Hunt and Martin Campbell.

Terrence Young for setting the impeccable tone.
Peter Hunt for taking up where Young left off and doing it even better.
Martin Campbell for successfully introducing two Bonds, and in the case of CR, making the best Bond film since the 60's.

    My ranking:
    1. Terence Young: set the bluprint for the movies staying close to Fleming
    2. Peter Young and Martin Campbell: each film they made they innovated while keeping faithful to the tradition, a balance not always accomplished by others.
    3. Lewis Gilbert: a great escapism and imagination.
    4. Guy Hamilton: funny movies.
    5. John Glen: I like his movies but I don't see a characteristic stlye.
    6. Marc Foster: he tried something visually new but he sacrified important elements (eg gunbarrel at the begining) and the matching with the older movies was simply crude (the oiled agent Fields).
    7. Roger Spootiswood and Michael Apted: nothing new, just good action flicks.
    8. Lee Tamahori: he made some distasteful decisions.

I'd probably have to rate Terence Young and Peter hunt equal. Pity Hunt didn't direct more Bond films in a similar vein to OHMSS. This is my favourite Bond film along with FRWL.

Looking through all the members preferences I have to completely agree with the above. OHMSS and FRWL are my two favourites and this is in most part down to the superb direction that was given to each movie.

Terence Young for me, gave us three of the greatest adventures of the entire series when Bond was arguably at his most Fleming esque, Dalton did come very close to this under John Glen in the 1980s, but with Young is where it all started, look at the caliber of films under his direction, Dr No, From Russia with Love and Thunderball, it all speaks for itself, and he was not responsible for the awful Goldfinger either, which would of counted against him - Hamilton can have the rotten tomatoes for that
