    Yes, I do believe that bit has been well sourced over the years, and is part of the established narrative concerning his unfortunate dismissal.
    Mind you, I am glad that his departure paved the way for the return of Connery and his tour de force performance in DAF - my all-time favourite Bond film and Connery performance.
    However, I lament that Eon couldn't have made up, and coaxed Laz back for LALD and a long run thereafter, but alas Rog had become the desired Bond-choice by that point.
    The great Laz-Bond was history. Bridge burned. What could have been though.
    In my ideal Bond world though, Sean does not only OHMSS, but also the two final Hamilton films, LALD and TMWTGG, and then Laz, the heir apparent in waiting, is trotted out for TSWLM and beyond.

    Yes, 7 may be the more accurate number, at least according to this wiki entry.

    "Although Lazenby had been offered a contract for seven movies, his agent, Ronan O'Rahilly, convinced him that the secret agent would be archaic in the liberated 1970s,"

    Suffice to say, Cubby and Saltz were prepared to move forward with him long term.
    They did like his work.

    Don't misunderstand me. I wouldn't have minded Lazenby doing some more films (although seven seems excessive). But the real "tragedy" was the lack of appreciation for Peter Hunt!
