    For months the poor cat gnawed on that lab-grown regenerating corn cob—gums bleeding, tongue raw, teeth dislodging—wondering when the cruel Lord Draggers would finally release it from this living nightmare. A fate worse than chained Prometheus and his regenerating liver, methinks.

    John Gardner decided to stop writing James Bond novels after the one with the cat-and-corn torture scene. That was just a step too weird for Bond. Even his Bond. Even his 90s Bond. And there was just no reason the cat of all characters should be quoting poetry.

    Judging time - sorry again for the delay but all of the entries were excellent!

    In third place, @Some_Kind_Of_Hero with:
