Arguably, QUANTUM OF SOLACE had too a good marketing scheme. The excellent theatrical trailer led many of us (myself included) to expect a better film. If anything, they need to tone it down a little. Less is more, as they say.
Having rewatched the trailer for the first time since release, it left me cold. I haven't seen the film in over a couple of years but do like it somewhat. So, I can't work out why I'm not keen on the trailer. I know I've seen Quantum Of Solace before but I also disliked the trailer upon release so this "excellent theatrical trailer" you speak of, for me didn't exist.
Well, I remember I joined MI6 around the time of its release, and the reactions were pretty ecstatic. Sure, there were a few skeptics (notably Superunknown85 and Charles Vine) - but otherwise the enthusiasm seemed fairly unanimous.

Look at the trailer now, in hindsight - it leaves me cold too. But back then, it had enough dynamism, mystery, and a sense of freshness to get people pumped.

Thanks to that, it help lead to the 'emperor's new cloths' syndrome around the release - where all dissenting opinions were stamped out by the movie's fanboys.
I don't want to see a gazillion production diaries, clips, or so on. Can't they leave all of that to one or two documentaries? Oh, and the less said about MGM or Sony's double dipping, the better.
In this 'information age' we can't get away from this type of marketing though, hence the topic of this thread: people want even more info on the film. Quantum Of Solace gave us much more than Casino Royale and with four years between films, who knows what will happen now..
How much more do people want to know? Every note on each stave of David Arnold/Nicholas Dodd's score, all of the dallies or the catering menu?

by viral marketing I mean games and fun little things that fans can play to learn details case in point if suddenly you went to 007.com and there was a Texas holdem card game and that was it you'd be curious and if you won the correct amount int game (say 1,192,011 which is the date of the us release 11 09 2011) the game paused and you saw the title of the film. things like that i think 007 would benefit from.
