Damian Lewis has revealed that he would like to play James Bond once Daniel Craig has finished with the role.

Discussing the allure of playing the famous spy he told the magazine: ‘Yes, I think it would be wonderful. Daniel [Craig] is doing an amazing job and he’ll continue to do it for a bit. But if it ever comes to that, I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.’

Hopefully he's happy taking a villain role instead.

  • He'll be too old for the role anyway by the time DC retires.

He'd have to dye his ginger hair. He might play a member of MI6 though. A traitor or the like?

He's 42 now, agreed. It doesn't mean that he couldn't do a role, but if EON has been already been scouting for the future, they will be looking at British actors who are now in their early to mid 30's.

Was he screentested in 2005, I wonder?

Of course he'll be too old, hence my villain comment.

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but i read that in 2005, Henry Cavill was a final contender for the role of Bond in Casino Royale. Apparently, the producers and Martin Campbell were torn between him and Daniel Craig with Campbell supporting Cavill. The producers prefered an older Bond, and decided on Craig. If this is true, maybe they have Cavill lined up for after Craig's days?
  • I hope not. I think Cavill has all the personality of a vacuum. It may also be difficult for him to play Bond after he's played another 60's iconic spy in Napolean Solo. Or that's my hope at least.

Hopefully by then, Cavill will have made a name for himself as Napolean Solo, and would be committed to more of those projects and the producers will be looking for a lesser known actor to play Bond..

The next actor to take on the role of Bond is someone who would be born in the 80s.

A ginger Bond, I can see the anti-sites popping up all over again. ;)
  • Good actor but he'll be too old by then.

But a blonde Bond is fine?

I like Damian Lewis a lot, and he is a great actor. One of my favourite shows over the last couple of years has been "Homeland" which is just excellent.

If he was younger when the time comes for DC to step down? I just can't see him in the role somehow?

Good call. I'd forgotten about that.

    He's a fantastic actor, but I don't think it'd work.

He wouldn't have to dye his hair. It looks the same as Roger's hair color. I think he could work.

Nah, they'll just rename the Craig sites for Lewis and act like two Bonds don't exist ;)

He will be too old, plain and simple. Most of the people mentioned before Craig became Bond cannot succeed him because of their age.
  • Yes, will most likely be an actor we have not yet heard of.

No to this. He's ginger and I dislike his face, which is all wrong for Bond anyway. He always turns up somewhere and just looks smug to me. A ginger Bond is a definite no-no in my book.
  • He is very smug whenever he's guest hosted Have I Got News For You. Thankfully, Merton and Hislop usually put him in his place :-)

I just don't like the look of him at all. I think he would do Bond irreparable harm.

If it makes them sleep better at night it serves a purpose.

Gee that sounds just like 2005-2006 ;)

He's too ugly and ginger. In no way he could play Bond. James Bond. Bond is either raven haired, light brown or blond. Gingers stay away!

Wow, he would be the WORST replacement that I could ever think of taking over from Daniel Craig.

No outrage at this being "gingerist"?
