    I haven’t been able to bring myself to watch the Lego Holiday Special, nor have I been able to revisit the original as well.

    I honestly believe the rumors that Lucas tried to destroy every copy of the original Holiday Special. I would too if I were him.

    I rewatched the Sequel Trilogy over the week. I'm not going to lie: I enjoyed them. TFA was fan service done right, while setting the stage right. TLJ took risks, and felt fresh. TROS was just fun on it's own, mixing fan service with risks. For what they could have done better, planning in advance for storylines. I know Carrie Fisher dying and Colin Trevorrow getting fired didn't help TROS. Mark Hamill didn't get a fair deal. I think Trevorrow would have taken more risks. I did enjoy Daisy Ridley as Rey, and her overall story arc. I don't think we've seen the last of Rey for now. Lando should have had more screentime, but I'm happy with what we got, as we can get more.

    The Lego Holiday Special was pretty fun. It’s basically the Star Wars version of a Christmas Carol as it has Rey visiting different eras of the films meeting Anakin, Luke, etc. Unlike the original two hour special from 1978, the new one is 44 mins, which is just about the right length it should be.

    It’s even more fun watching with kid relatives.

    The original Holiday Special was one hell of a trippy experience, oh my. Assuming that not every parent was quite aware of what SW was back then, imagine the look on their faces when they saw the opening five minutes of this show, with nothing but Wookies making all sorts of crazy sounds. Not to mention some completely nuts hologram dancing and singing. :D

    I don’t really see how it’s a riff on A Christmas Carol (unless you count all the characters as an army of ghosts from christmases past). There are some cool things in there for Star Wars fans and one or two jokes that land, but ultimately moves way too fast from any one thing to the next which fits nicely into the current TikTok/social media world kids live in.

    That’s why I said it’s a riff rather than a straight up adaptation of it. It’s basically the kind of story that a candy sugared up kid after would get a kick out of. Given that it’s a Lego production, it’s fitting.

    Yes I think I've read that somewhere to be honest. It was probably the only way to get through the bits where they made her sing the Star Wars theme!

    Am I right in thinking this was filmed just after mark hamills car crash. His make up on the version I’ve seen is very heavy.

    I don't think his car crash was ever as bad as the stories over the years have made it out to be.

    Ok, fair enough, I still don’t see it. I agree with you that it’s perfect for a sugared up kid, lol. As a Lego fan myself, I can see why they’d made something for kids, but they’re very good at making content that’s satisfying for adults as well (all the lego Star Wars games, the lego movies 1 and 2 for example). That’s why I felt a little disappointed by it.

    Yeah Lego animations are very curious because they all look the same, but then you get the funny stuff and then the more straight-to-video slightly cheaper naff stuff, and it's hard to tell which is being pitched at who by just looking at it. They even have DC ones featuring a Lego Batman who isn't the Lego Batman, if you know what I mean.

    Those were around before that Lego Batman. Lego stuff is hit and miss, but I generally find Lego Star Wars stuff hits a little more because there are details you need to watch for that are jokes in and of themselves.

    I think he broke his nose but otherwise he doesn't look any different, apart from losing a bit of weight.

    Advice from an old tracker: use your eyes. ;) It may have been exaggerated from the initial story reported in People Magazine in 1977, but no, he did NOT lose his nose. Bone damage was fairly evident though.

    Hamill actually had the car crash shortly after principal photography on the original SW in January 1977. He was supposed to do a pick up shot but a double was used for that instance. So by the time the Holiday Special had been shooting he was already well healed. Here’s how he appeared during the Star Wars premiere, four months after the crash.

    Me too. Even in the sequel trilogy, he doesn’t look like he’s aged much. Aside from the beard and his hair.

    I think the urban legend was heightened due to TESB featuring Luke get a facial injury, the assumption that was added to the script to “explain” why Luke’s face is different.
