    The Lion King (2019)

    Suprised at the lukewarm reception this has got from critics. I thought it was amazing.

    Incredible CGI work in all aspects of this film. Stays very faithful to the original but some nice little changes make it all worthwhile.

    In terms of Disney's remakes this i'd say is the most successful quality wise.

    Got too see a preview screening of Frozen 2 with my wife and daughter today.
    Certainly more enjoyable than I thought it would be. As good as the first movie surprisingly. We all liked it anyway. Bet it’s going to make a bucket load of money.

    Star Trek: The Motion Picture
    Found a cinema screening of this last Saturday in London. Surprisingly a lot better on the big screen.

    Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan Last Sunday found a cinema screening of this. A classic. A big one off my big screen bucket list.

    Then this weekend we watched my old DVDs of Star Trek III: The Search For Spock (very underrated), Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (huge silly fun). Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (dogshit) and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (a fine movie).

    Was great fun to look at all of these again.

    The Frightened City 1961 Herbert Lom, Sean Connery. You can already see the James Bond potential in this film, Connery owns every scene he is in. Decent British film Noir.

    I've loved everything Mike Flanagan has done post-Hush but that film felt very overhyped and forgettable to me.

    I’ve seen Oculus (hated the ending), Gerald’s Game, Hush, and Doctor Sleep from Flanagan. Really enjoyed the latter two. The first two have their moments but I have no desire to see them again.

    I've seen everything of his except Doctor Sleep. I'm a fan. Flanagan delivers some really good ghost horror (except in HUSH) with a strong sense of personal drama underlining it. Unlike in James Wan's angry ghost universe(s), where it's mostly about traps and attacks, Flanagan's work tries to exorcise his characters' inner demons. I must admit that I'm a fan.

    Had forgotten I had already seen it, and remembered nothing of it until the scenes unfolded, so ok for passing a couple hours. Nothing special, but engaging throughout.

    Oh man, I loved Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep. I've not seen Oculus, though; may have to check it out since he's the director but from what I saw over the years, it looked fairly mediocre.

    The Irishman (2019)

    Watched this in two parts as it's so long.
    Excellent film although the 'de-aging' effects in the early part of the film are distracting and sometimes obvious.

    I think Pacino steals the show as Jimmy Hoffa and it's his fate that this film concentrates on.

    Not the masterpiece it's being labeled as but still a really absorbing gangster epic from the brilliant Scorcese.

    Watched this in one sitting and no point did I feel it outstayed its welcome.

    Great performances all round, it was great to see Pesci back in a different kind of role, more menacing than psychotic.
    Did any one notice the JFK reference and how he referred to his character from that film? and the Howard Hunt ears joke

    While Pesci and De Niro are the stand outs here, that is no disservice to Bobby who hasn't been better in years and really has the job of driving the film and it's a truly terrific performance.

    Pacino is shouty and loud but there is more to his performance than that much more, a sadness, a tragedy to it and Al just acts up a storm.

    Thelma Schoonmaker's editing is essential to making this move as it does and despite the length the film does not drag one bit. The film takes a slower pace towards the end but this is in keeping with the sombre and sobering subject of this segment of the film and everything has been leading to this conclusion and the consequences of the life Frank Sheeran has chosen.

    Marty just knocks it out the park with a dizzying display of his craft, this is undoubtedly a Scorsese film many director try to imitate it but only one man truly make a Martin Scorsese film and this is one of his best.

    For me definitely another Marty Masterpiece.

    Agreed @Shardlake -- I watched it in one go and was immediately swept into the story with the first steadi-cam shot to open the film. It's a vibrant, rich film, a masterclass in acting and story-telling. Three quarters of the way through the film, I had a thought that I couldn't wait to watch this again.

    Batman V Superman Dawn of justice theatrical cut

    I only have a dvd player in my living room so sue me.

    Interestingly enough I don't love this movie but the things I don't like about the movie I don't see mentioned and the things others hate about this movie I don't really mind about

    Lets talk about the positives because unfairly this film is given a bad wrap

    1, Affleck is brilliant as Batman Jermey Irons is brilliant as Alfred and it kills me we won't get a solo film in fact I will say it Best Batman and Alfred period
    2. I like the use of KGBeast but I wish he was utilized a bit better
    3. I really don't mind Eisenberg as Luther is he different then Gene Hackman or Kevin Spacy of course but different doesn't equal bad he is swarmy creepy and evil.
    4. I don't mind Henry Cavill as Superman or Amy Adams Lois Lane... of course I hate superman so I could almost care less how he is portrayed...
    5. Oh a minor thing I don't hate the Martha Scene I get what the film is trying to say I understand the jokes behind it but honestly its a light in the eyes of Batman to show how he is getting "lost in the monster"
    6. Bruce as a player is FREAKING AWESOME
    7. Love the suit designs as well
    8. love the easter eggs like the Jason todd suit and the Aston Martin and also love Bruce just takes on criminals be it random or big time

    The negatives I have honestly
    1. Kent working sports, and the whole Wally subplots are annoying to say the least.
    2. Honestly the film needed to end With Batman Superman and Wonder woman just about to take on Doomsday (seriously next time you watch it turn off the movie on the shot of the 3 of them about to go on the attack and tell me its not a better film
    3. Luthor is essentially a god which is strange I mean how did he figure out... well anything
    4. I did like Bruce being himself in the underground fight ring a decent chance to bring matches Malone to the screen.
    5. why does Clark want to take on the batman seriously? I get it they want Batman Superman to fight but they could make for a better reason
    6. Bruce as an alcoholic is weird
