There was a bit of a better sense of a drama, and the overall tone and style was closer to the original film than the Lester cut. However, I did prefer the ending of the Lester one, as well as the extra footage of the Zod gang in Houston. There were also a couple of awkward cuts to certain scenes in the Donner cut. Both are good films, but my overall preference is the Donner cut. It was a very good experience, and a great way to cap the marathon.

    Superman Film Ranking:
    1. Superman (10/10)
    2. Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut (9/10)
    3. Superman II (9/10)
    4. Superman Returns (6.5/10)
    5. Superman III (6/10)
    6. Man of Steel (5/10)
    7. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (2/10)

    I totally concur!

Sorry guys I think Superman Returns is pretty awful though the plane scene is very good. I like Brandon though he is out of his depth he has zero chemistry with Kate, Bosworth is totally miscast as Lois. The plot is a rehash and Spacey is cringe as Lex, especially that misguided opening scene where he exploits the elderly woman on her death bed. The whole Superman has a kid is half baked, the understanding of how Kryptonite works is unforgivable, the people involved in this film claimed they knew the history of Superman well, I don't believe them.

I get what you're saying, but I still like it a lot. On par with SIII I'd say. Not great, but entertaining enough. No films will ever equal Superman: The movie, or even either version of Superman II.

My last film watched was Corvette Summer last night. What a dumb little piece of fun nonsense. For nostalgia fans only. If you didn't see it back in 1978, avoid it.

I rank SIII higher than Returns mainly for Reeve, as misguided as SIII is it has its moments, I like Lana and Smallville scenes. The face off is good also...

In the right movie, with the right director, Cavill would have been gold as Superman.

    I agree 100%.

Superman III, for all its issues, has some really great content courtesy of Reeve’s amazing performance. I mainly put Returns above it for being more consistently decent. III has higher highs and lower lows so it’s close. I enjoyed them all to some extent except for IV and MoS.

MoS may be less iconic than the Reeves' films, but I put it on par with the first two. I think it's a pretty great origin story, depending on how susceptible you are to the approach it takes.

    Exactly.

Also, Superman III has an insultingly ridiculous plot, spends way too much time on a not-at-all-funny Richard Pryor, is successful in its comedic attempts only during the opening credits sequence and then no more, weakens out Williams' score, receives phoned-in performances from Reeves and several others and ends with Supes fighting an evil computer with inexplicable powers. Perhaps if I were 8--okay, 7, no 6--I could enjoy this film, but as it is, Superman III and its sequel are worse than Batman and Robin. The Salkinds should have been put out of business over this abomination. I worship Superman Returns for "forgetting" that Superman III exists.

MoS just didn’t feel like a Superman film to me. As spotty as it was, III still had the right tone and colorful Superman vibe. IV I thought was infinitely worse and is so insulting that it’s weaker than MoS. To me, that’s the one Reeve phoned it in and not much else worked either.

Tom would have a made an interesting Tony Stark though not sure if he would have pulled off the beard. I am glad Tom stuck with the MI series.

Today is a little different I am focusing on the possible Batman films between Batman & Robin and Batman Begins

Starting with Batman Year one the only idea to get a full movie treatment in 2010

I dislike how close that keep to the story but over all elements of both the original comic book and the movie I actually like...

    1. I love the short ears on Batman
    2. The voice acting is good specifically Mackenzie as Batman and Cranston as Gordon
    3. The actin scenes are well done

    Negatives
    1. To much monologoing
    2. I hate Jim’s affair I hated it in the novel I hate it here it makes no sense and aggravates me
    3. I hate jim’s near suicidal moment

For Batman unchained or triumphant or whatever it was going to be called two thirty minute episodes from the animated series
    On leather wings
    And
    The trial

As man bats inclusion and Batman being on trial were two huge elements

    Both are fantastic episode

Over all it’s ok not great

I think I will do Batman beyond and Batman begins next week

    Films I saw in 2019

    1. Casino Royale
    2. Across the Universe
    3. Licence to Kill
    4. Batman mask of the phantasm
    5. Batman
    6. Beverly Hills Cop 2
    7. Batman Returns
    8. Casino Royale 1954
    9. Highlander Endgame
    10. Batman Year one
    11. Oliver Stone The Doors
    12. Highlander
    13. Moonstruck
    14. Batman Forever
    15. Avengers: Endgame
    16. Rocketman
    18. Hitman agent 47
    19. Highlander 3 The Final Dimension
    20. Batman Triumphant
    21. Walk the line
    22. Highlander 2
    23. Highlander the source
    24. Batman & Robin

    Films from 2019
    1. Avengers Endgame
    2. Rocketman

    Batman series
    3. Batman mask of the phantasm
    4. Batman
    5. Batman Returns
    6. Batman year one
    7. batman forever
    8. Batman triumphant
    9. Batman & Robin

    Highlander series
    3. Highlander Endgame
    4. Highlander
    5. Highlander the final Dimension
    6. Highlander 2
    7. Highlander the source

    Bond series
    1. Casino Royale

Good in that Spielberg was on fire so the direction etc would have still been amazing, though Tom Seleck is no Harrison Ford, as much as I liked Magnum that was pretty much Tom's level. Tom did make a kind of Indy rip off with High Road to China which I have never rushed to rewatch. Tom's best film IMO is Runaway which I own.

That's right and also a memorable Gene Simmons performance, it was a decent thriller I liked the concept with the Bullets.
