    Vertical limit.

    Very disappointing.

This was just really dull and generic. For a film about climbing, there is remarkably little of it. When the action breaks out, it's brief and the sequences of people dangling off cliff and crevices get really repetitive.

Campbell has delivered some poor efforts outside of the Bond world.

    Wonder Woman.

Quite enjoyable really, wanted to make sure I saw it before I go to see Justice League once it is released. Have to say I would love to see Gadot in a Bond movie.

I haven't seen it but I'm really glad she starred in something everyone seems to love. I really enjoyed her in the Fast & Furious series, had hoped it would lead to some proper lead roles for her.

Wasn't crazy about the ending but I gave massive kudos to this film for their "love letter" to John Carpenter's The Thing, in terms of the outstanding practical effects/animatronics. Ridiculously refreshing for a horror movie.

Coincidentally, she got into acting full time because of Bond. She was initially tested for QoS, but the role went to Olga instead.

I remember watching Coogan's Bluff ten years ago or so, and felt disappointed as my expectations were very high. My father is a fan of McCLoud, buying the whole set on DVD when it came out, around the same time as I remember it, I didn't get to like that one, either. If at all. Never knew these two things were related to one another.

However, I might give Coogan another try and see if I like it this time, without expecting a "Dirty Harry" out of it.

I really like the Eastwood movies he did make some classics in his long career. He will perhaps be far better remembered than the John Wayne's of the world.

And of course the prisoner Eastwood is out to get is none other than our own Heller from LTK :

Yeah i heard about that. But seeing as Monica Belluci made it? Their is still hope for Gadot yet!

I managed to persuade my wife to a movie-watching spree. Or I wouldn't be able to report the third movie in three days. Can't remember the last time we achieved that.

Tonight we watched THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING from 1975 (for the first time ever), really a marvelous adventure extravaganza directed by John Huston and starring three Oscar-winning actors - Sean Connery, Michael Caine and Christopher Plummer. The Blu-ray is mostly impeccable in quality, so the movie is perfect for watching on a large screen (did I mention I have a 4.2 meters/14 ft. projection screen?). Anyway, it was worth it.

For those who don't know it, two former British soldiers in India set out to take over a province called Kafiristan for their personal gain...and actually succeed in doing so initially because one of them (Connery) is taken to be the "son" of Alexander the Great who had conquered the area in 328 B.C. Of course justice is more or less served in the end, meaning they ultimately fail. Possibly Connery's best performance (although he's always...Connery), and Caine is great (and, well, Caine) too. Accompanied by one of the lesser Maurice Jarre scores. All in all, highly recommended.

Great film, Connery and Caine looked like they were having a lot of fun making that one, wish they did more work together.

@j_w_pepper, one omission from your description of THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING: it's the Rudyard Kipling story come to life! Kipling (Christopher Plummer) himself even appears in it. Shakira Caine, too. Greatness.

Okay, I need that Blu-Ray. Would need to check out your home theater before I can commit to something like the 14 foot screen myself, though. I'd bring some adult beverages.

Yes, @RichardTheBruce, I left out a few details and twists, of course. I may add that I did not recognize Christopher Plummer in that role, actually until the end credits started running, not having read up on that movie beforehand.

IIRC, I still owe you a tour of the Hamburg TND locations anyway. Just tell me when you want to come with those adult beverages.

The Wild Geese Good fun this film is alot grittier and hard edged than I remember, Sir Roger is in familiar company with Syd Cain, Maurice Binder and John Glen working on this film. Good HD transfer of the film and I love the Arrow Bluray menu its eye catching.

    Happy Death Day (2017

Really enjoyed this take on the 'Groundhog Day' scenario. A female student has to relive the day of her murder over and over again until she discovers her killers identity to end it.

Not particularly scary and relatively bloodless this is nevertheless always engaging and smartly funny.

Couldn't help but fall in love with the lead actress, Jessica Rothe. She is stunning!

It's a good film very much a seventys movie, if you are a fan of the actors involved you will like this they all put good performances in. The Bluray has a nice booklet and reversible cover like other releases, the extras are the World Premier and a commentary with Euan Lloyd, Roger Moore and John Glen.

Yes, I highly recommend The Wild Geese. I bought the blu ray too. It's definitely 70's-ish and has some quite poor acting by smaller supporting cast members and low budget cheesiness in a few places (most notably during the early London scenes), but apart from that it's a top notch film. Roger Moore, Richard Burton, Richard Harris, Hardy Kruger and Stewart Granger. Worth a watch just for them.

Yes, that was a laugh for sure. I've always felt that Burton could have made an excellent Bond in his prime.

In terms of poor acting, I'm talking specifically about the drug scene. Pretty cheesy stuff there.

Yeah that scene only works when Moore ramps it up, the American accent of the Gangsters nephew is ropey. Burton would have made a great Bond, he was often convincing as a take no bs type.

OK, next one coming up tonight: After last night's John Huston masterpiece THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING, we decided to watch THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE. Another (and quite earlier) masterpiece by John H., in black-and-white glory on an impeccable Blu-ray that looks better than probably better than any copy of the original 1948 movie ever shown in a theatre. A thrilling adventure employing Humphrey Bogart as an ultimately disagreeable main character meeting his fate at the hands of possibly even less agreeable characters. In my view, the cinematography plays the most prominent role in a foreseeable script based on a novel by the elusive German novelist B.Traven, but either way it's a grand achievement.

Simply brilliant. No better film for this time of year. The types of film to remind you why you like movies. The performances, the lighting, the setting, the pacing, the music. This is, undeniably, Halloween.

I think Halloween 2 is underrated. It's a quality premise for a sequel. Not as good as the original, but that was very much lightning in a bottle.

    Rosemary's Baby (1968)

Forgot just what an accomplished film this is. One of Polanski's best.

The way the film builds on the conspiracy behind Rosemary's pregnancy is terrifying and frustrating because we want people to believe and help this poor innocent woman.

Mia Farrow is outstanding in this. You really do get sucked in to her plight. I think she's in every scene in the film.

Cassavetes also excellent gives a really shifty and twitchy performance as probably the most despicable characters in cinema history.
