That would be pretty cool having a flash back but Bond did get over her pretty quick. SO it would have to be something more then just that.

Bond got over her quick? Where do you get that idea?

Well you don't see him leaving MI6 or crying in Mallories office do you no.

Sobbing an undermined amount of time after her death wouldn't lend much credibility to Bond. He shed his tears, let that be that.

Her death to the funeral was numerous days in between. It's James Bond: how often do we see him shed tears? His boss was murdered, he cried, he moved on. Did you want the rest of the film to be something you can sob and eat ice cream to? Instead of Bond standing confidently on the rooftop, he's just laying in Mallory's lap, crying with a box of tissues.

Yeah, that's the 00 Agent I want to see. It would make me so confident for his future endeavors.

No NO NO you guys don't understand what I am trying to say. I don't want it to be that because that would be pointless. Also it was fine for him to just cry for 2 minutes he moved on that the way I like it.

Bloody hell, you must be joking. Did you miss the part where he completely pours a river of tears from his eyes? The scene where M dies in his arms and when he is on the roof have a good amount of time between them, so Bond has had his time to mourn. People will say "he is rude, he didn't even attend the will", but that just isn't Bond's style. He wouldn't want to fight over any material object from M, since she gave him so much more in their wonderful relationship where she really did mold him into the agent he is today and never lost faith in him, no matter what. On top of that, the bulldog she gave to him is something he will always hold dear to his heart, and he will never really lose her as she is always in his heart and in his thoughts. That's the beauty of their relationship. Only Bond knows the true meaning on the object (Eve thinks it is her telling him to get a desk job), and that is what makes what they had so special. The bulldog symbolizes stubbornness, and is M's message from beyond the grave to Bond, telling him that no matter how much he is being challenged in his life, he must never give up, and survive past it. Just like the bulldog is the only thing that survives the MI6 explosion, Bond is the one that always perseveres through any hard times that face him, always coming out on top and maintaining his loyalty and trust with superiors. As long as he has that bulldog, Bond can always look at it in times of hardship and say, "M wouldn't want me to quit", and soldier on with whatever is set against him.

As to Bond not crying in MI6 or in Mallory's office, of course he wasn't! Do you think Bond would just start moping and sobbing in his boss's office? That is one of the most unprofessional things you could ever do. As it has been said, Bond has had his time to mourn alone, and thought he isn't crying his eyes out all hours of the day it does not mean that he has forgotten M or "gotten over her" in the slightest. Her memory will always be alive in him, because she is the person who made him who he is. Not only is the bulldog a symbol of M and her care for him, he himself is a symbol of her influence. She crafted him into the 00 section's best agent, and her last words to him, "at least I did something right" ring true when we see just how much he has grown as not only an agent, but as a man because of her presence in his life. That is something that Bond can't and never will forget, and though he will never get over the fact that she is gone (just like how he can't get over the fact that Vesper is gone), he must push on and not become hindered by the loss, instead doing what she would want most of him: To always keep pushing onwards.

@Brady for all it's worth I thought your post was worth the effort. Very nice analysis on I still haven't seen SF since opening night (trying to watch all of them in order before getting to SF) and I forgot some of those aspect and it made me appreciate the way it played out that much more.

Ok I just read this and just saying ok she died. Some of us will miss her I won't lie I will. But it's not like bond to cry over someones death. Did he cry over Vespers no and he quit his job for her. They spent 2 minutes over her death that it. They brought her back up in one of the scence when Bond mets her boyfriend. So it's not like Bond to cry for a long time.
  • @THEBond007, I'm glad that you read OBrady's post. Replying to a post that you haven't read is a huge incentive for people to not take you seriously. No one would be upset if you didn't reply because you were watching LTK. But to reply to a post you didn't read would be like posting a review of LTK when you had never seen it yet.

@THEBond007, but he DID cry when Vesper died.

He is a complete mess here when he realizes he can't save her:

    http://screenmusings.org/CasinoRoyale/images/CR_1531.jpg
    http://screenmusings.org/CasinoRoyale/images/CR_1532.jpg

He spends the rest of CR and QoS acting like she didn't matter to him at all because he didn't want anyone to know that he let his guard down and she broke his heart or that he was vulnerable and breakable. He tries so hard to seem like he is callous and invincible all the time, and Vesper shows everyone (and himself though he doesn't like to admit it) that he isn't.

In QoS he tears himself up over her, and drinks himself into a stupor of pain and denial over her. Trust me, the end of CR and QoS is full of the stages of acceptance Bond goes through over her. Denial, depression, insomnia and acceptance, it's all there.

EON could bring back Dame Judi Dench in flashback scenes in Bond 25.

No, I can't see it. Skyfall ended with a clear regime change and will move forward with the new M and the new office / Moneypenny.

    I agree with you.

Dench role as M was tainted by bad script writing which made her seem useless.
She always seemed to stuff up and she spent too much time on screen.
From "take the shot" to being a hostage in twine to blasting bond in ge after all the success he has had in his missions.

Dench could be seen in flashbacks in future Bond releases, which is good enough, but bringing the actress back for another character appearance, as obviously someone else, seems questionable. Maybe it's for the best it's just left as it is. Dench was a mainstay of the Bond franchise for 17 years, she's had a good run, and now is the time to move on. Nothing lasts forever

Personally, I don't think there should be flashback scenes in Bond films. Not sure how to explain it better than saying I just think they're not the kind of films to use this style of storytelling. Okay, CR can be the exception as it was part of Bond's introduction, and it just worked so well. Having it in CR also backs up my opinion for not using flashbacks in future- it's been done- and in black & white grain, too. If we're to witness any past events involving M (or any other character), I'd much rather it be in a physical form i.e. an audio recording of a conversation between M and person x, or classified documents that resurface.

Beside, she is the only M that received a proper send off: a plot centered around her. Bringing in her back in a flashback would be a mistake (beside doesn't she have memory problems now).

I can only see her coming back as a portrait in MI6.

Don't know why, but that did make me smile

As before, she had a long run in the Bond franchise, I would of liked to have seen her maybe do one more release, but they decided it was time to call a halt. It wasn't so much of a shock when she died in Skyfall, as it was given away before I saw it, but nonetheless, it was a little sad to see her go after so many years of service. She wasn't as good an M as Bernard Lee (nobody could be), but a vast improvement on the lacklustre Robert Brown, and it'll be strange without her presence in subsequent Bond releases, but there always will be changes, in any walks of life

    James Bond is no different
