    My quick film review of Queer (random notes).

    1. It's a good (but not great) film. Yet having said that, it stays with you for a long time after leaving the theater.
    2. Daniel Craig is exceptional, will likely get a nom. But the film doesn't have enough universal appeal to get him a gold statue.
    3. The soundtrack is brilliant, both in song choices (especially "Come As You Are" by Nirvana) and the Reznor/Ross score. The songs seem anachronistic...
    until the end of the film. Then the song choices make sense.
    4. Not as sexually explicit as I expected.
    5. Not as "mind blowingly" Lynchian or Kubrick-esque as I expected.
    6. Jason Schwartzman almost steals the film.
    7. The full frontals left me with "a slight inferiority complex." LOL
    8. I thought Kuritzkes' script needed to ease us into Lee's character, to allow us to get to know him better. His situation and motivations are not clear at all. They needed to be. It seems as though Kuritzkes was of the mindset that his audience will already know a thing or two about Burroughs. In reality, most won't bring that kind of prior knowledge into the theater.
    9. There are a number of funny little moments, including...
    one laugh-out-loud moment in a restaurant. That was a nice touch.
    10. It's not until the film's final chapter that...
    we really sense Lee's loneliness, and then the themes come crashing down upon us.

    I’m sure he’s brilliant as usual and hope he wins awards but the subject matter doesn’t appeal in the slightest so will give this a miss. Bring on Wake up Dead Man and hopefully Sgt Rock.

    What's really impressive however is how much he's escaped being typecasted, unlike most actors who played James Bond and had to face a few years where the industry didn't really know what to do with them. He probably receives a bunch of scripts for thrillers, the stuff that Liam Neeson can't do anymore. He picks instead odd projects. It was rough at a time – nobody will claim that Kings is a great film, but with Logan Lucky, Knives Out, Glass Onion and Queer, he's been receiving more and more accolades

    The mark of a great actor. Craig had a pretty good career before Bond, and as he's proved, a damn good one post Bond.

    Such an interesting and watchable actor.

    Yeah I didn't get the dislike for that film. I think I remember it having a slightly flat spot in the middle but I enjoyed it overall, and I thought Craig was a great fit as the silent mysterious Cowboy type. Ford's obviously great in anything.

    I loathe sci-fi and western films, but really enjoyed Cowboys and Aliens. Never understood the hate for the film, it's a bit fun.

    Robert Downey Jr had been first choice for Craig’s part in C&A part but it suits Craig a lot. Better . Actually I’d love to see Craig and Downey Jr in a film together.

    I didn't know that about Downey Jr. I think he'd have been good in it, although I agree it suited Craig more. RD usually brings a bit of wit of his heroes and that character just needed to be hard-bitten and serious, really.

    Yes, I also liked Cowboys and Aliens. Sometimes, I even wish that the aliens hadn't arrived and it'd been a straight western!

    I haven't seen it since I caught it in theaters (one of the priciest tickets to the movies I've ever purchased, I need to find it and see what I paid) but I still recall Craig's character casually rolling his own cigarettes during his downtime throughout. Not sure why that's the one thing that sticks out in my mind from it.
