    I think T Jones is just a new character, I like new characters. The initial trilogy only had two returning support characters in the whole thing.

    Short Round was awesome! He’s one of the best archetypes of the kid sidekick because he’s actually able to handle himself in tough situations and more importantly helps Indy get out of his weird trance.

    My initial comment was tongue in cheek of course, but in all honesty I have no problem with Short Round. Temple of Doom was the first Indiana Jones film I saw so I've always had a soft spot for it. I never found him annoying.

    Willie's screaming on the other hand...

    Willie was pretty funny, though, when she reminded Indy that she was right there ! She was rarin' to race in the Indy 500, and he was feeling up statues...

    Annoying says it for me, @Librarian. An annoying, obnoxious, loud character not helped by being named after a favorite Korean character from Sam Fuller's The Steel Helmet. Also not helped by the Spielberg approach to frantic chasing or being chased with yelling as a form of emotion. I got tired of that in the eighties.

    Willie's one tough cookie. Hanging only a couple feet away from scorching..lava. She is one character I wouldn't mind returning.

    And she did get past her “ew gross” attitude towards bugs to actually stop Indy and Short Round from getting crushed (before her bum triggered the trap again, but I digress).

    Very true, I liked that she overcame her fear of 'everything in India', by the end.

    On another note, she has got to be the most attractive leading lady of the films, right?

    I cannot choose, as I find so many of them so very attractive. So, I'll indulge in the superficial for a moment: Marion...loved her from Animal House on. Love that sardonic smile of hers. Willie -- hot enough to become the second Mrs. Steven Spielberg, and Amy Irving was the first !!! Elsa...not REALLY a Nazi, right ? Sure is pretty. Then, Marion again (see above), and Cate Blanchett. Even her character's name -- Irina Spalko, THIS close to "spank-oh !" had a naughty ring to it, referencing S&M along with her appearance and dominant attitude, which fit the 50s time setting so well, what with Bettie Page and other cuties faking S&M scenes, So, yup. I'd be a fool to try to choose, lest my head start smoking like that of a fembot in the an Austin Powers flick.

    I never quite get people criticising Willie for being annoying, because that’s the joke. She’s supposed to scream too much: Indy even says “the thing about her is the noise”. It’s like complaining that Mr Magoo can’t see well enough.
    I think she’s brilliant at the role and performs it perfectly.

    In terms of attractiveness I think they’re all stunning, but Allen in Raiders tips it for me: she’s so naturally beautiful.

    In terms of crushes it’s her and Superman The Movie Margot Kidder for me. No Bond girls quite come close, actually.

    Karen Allen was amazing. Carey Lowell & Michelle Yeoh from the Bonds were as cool IMHO.

    Yup. They’re basically going for the Hollywood brat type, a fish out of water for that character. I think for some she just seems like a step backward from Marion who can participate in a bar fight, gaining that “spunky gal” rep. I don’t view it that way, she’s SUPPOSED to be the pampered girl caught in a sticky situation.

    Yeah, then in the next movie we got a good girl gone bad almost returning to good... nice change over....

    Spielberg admitted the character of Willie Scott was a mistake. I seem to remember him saying “I thought you could build a character around someone screaming all the time. I was wrong”

    He’s way too harsh on that movie: it’s excellent.

    Yeah, I got the point of the character but I found her hard to watch despite the intention and that's ultimately what matters for me.

    Still, Spielberg did alright out of it! ;)

    On Temple of Doom, both Spielberg and Lucas were coming out of a divorce, and that definitely affected their take on the lead female character in the script. Capshaw does the best she can from some poorly written material. It's less the screaming than the perpetual nagging, her greediness or the overlong scenes (the dinner) that get annoying in the first half of the movie, while, other than her looks, she doesn't have a lot of redeeming features. And at some point, she's attracted to Indy, not because of some organic development that had occurred in front of our eyes until then, but because the script simply has her switching from nagging to romantic.
