    my rank of actors:
    1.Daniel Craig
    2.George Lazenby
    3.Sean Connery
    4.Tim Dalton
    5.Roger Moore
    6.Brosnan

I like Both Craig and Dalton, but i vote Craig all the way, his act better than Dalton IMO

I don't presume Craig's performance will change all that much. I don't even think his Bond will change all that much. The script may simply drop some of the "rookie" Bond's issues (which basically means M forcing him to fight red tape and her motherly analyses of him) but neither his character nor the way Craig plays him will be all that different I predict.

Ehh...tough choice. I prefer Craig's performances to the Bond movies he's in, whereas I prefer the 2 Dalton Films over Dalton's performance. Based on that, I'd have to go with Craig.

Connery and Moore though are my Bonds.

Daniel Craig. He's my second favourite of the lot, but has a good chance to be #1 in the future.

Dalton. By an absolutely massive margin. Back in '87 he revitalised the series, and my interest in Bond. Couldn't believe how good he was after all those crappy Roger escapades. He's still my favourite Bond and one of my top three actors of all time. I was gutted when he quit, he had at least another three Bond movies in him. What might have been, eh.

Quoting lechero: I love both really. But Craig embodies a certain coolness on screen that I feel
is very similar to Connery or Steve McQueen.
    Agreed
Has taken the role on without any inhibitions that some of the actors clearly had. Has the sort of coolness, swagger and danger that (for me) Timbo lacked.

    Craig's 3rd on my list but Dalton's #1 :)

    1. Dalton
    2. Connery
    3. Craig
    4. Lazenby
    5. Moore (for TSWLM & FYEO)
    6. Brosnen (for GE & TWINE)

I would suggest this thread for a full actor ranking.

I'll take Dalton over Craig myself. Craig hasn't shown much acting so far in the series, it may come further down, and I've seen him in enough roles to know he can manage it but Dalton has outshined him in his 2 flicks. Craig is merely portraying Dalton's Bond in today's world.

It's a hard choice really... I'd say Dalton slightly over Craig, but only slightly.
  • Dalton, he looks more like Bond and is more emotive than DC.

Dalton as well, Craig needs to show us first what he can do as the 'proper' Bond before fair comparisons are made.
  • My decision between the two lies entirely on what mood I'm in... Rationally I couldn't decide.

As much as I like Craig, I have always preferred Mr Dalton. He looks and acts more refined than Craig. I prefer his darker looks to Craig's too.

Quoting Samuel: He's only played the "becoming Bond" version of Bond and not really the
real thing yet, as he will in Bond 23. Let's see how he does then.
Quoting Bond: Good point, and that's probably why I don't jive with him too much yet. Bond 23
will really let us know where he's going with the character.
This is true. Will be interesting to see. The writers and director should have taken this into account. It cannot be overlooked.

I bet the general public who have no interest in the books would go with Craig.

Timothy Dalton is a nobody for the general public.

    Timothy Dalton

I think that Daniel Craig is a great Bond but Timothy Dalton is my #1 favorite James Bond because of the way that Fleming's original character is projected through his individually cool, diminsional, and intense delivery.

Do you really think so? I have to disagree. I do see a bit of Dalton in Craig's performance as Bond, but I also see a bit of the Connery swagger that the 4 previous Bonds all lacked (especially in CR).

I loved Casino Royale, but something about Craig turns me off. As far as a comparison goes, there is none. DALTON for the win.

He is probably the closest to Fleming's Bond, though Sean Connery came pretty close in DR. NO.
  • Timothy Dalton by far.

Spot on - that's exactly right - and Dalton had a lightness that DC has yet to deliver.

The base of it is, Craig certainly is trying to put his fingerprint on it as well. The essence of the performance imo is the 2010 adaptation of Dalton's Bond in today's society, with the equivalent physical demands serious actors can go through now-days, with the massive fitness program and sorts. I like Craig's work, but it certainly feels like déjà vu.

I think Dalton is #1. He played FLEMING's BOND. Craig is just doing his interpretation of of what had come before. Craig has a stiffness that I don't like. I don't believe him when he does what he does in his movies

Daniel Craig and its not close either. Craig gets my vote as the best of the four deficient Bonds (Craig, Dalton, Broz and Moore in that order.) Faint praise I know but its worth something.
Although too short, too blonde and not having the right general look, he plays the part better than Dalton. He'smuch closer to Connery than Dalts was and that's the most important thing.

I'd pick Timothy Dalton, and not because I dislike Craig, but because I felt that he had the Bond look and feel more down pat than Craig does. However, Craig has the better physiche for fighting, but I just like Dalton a wee bit better.

I think it is Craig. Craig is deeper

For a long time I'd have said Dalton but looking at these two clips side-by-side of the actors talking to their love interests I know, in my mind, which one seems a bit more relaxed and hence more appealing:

It might be just me but looking at these two scenes side by side Dalton looks a tad uncomfortable - particularly when he moves in to kiss Kara.

My vote's changed. Craig wins - he's just got more of that "cool cat" quality - esp in CR.

Fleming's Bond is out of the equation.

We already know what sort of Bond DC is going to be...just look at TD in both of his films and DC's performance is a slightly more xxx version without the looks.

SC first, TD, GL, DC, PB........................................................................and lastly RM

So you like PB and RM the least? How is this opinion even possible to exist?

Both scenes are good but I prefer the Dalton/d'Abo combo. Just more believable chemistry IMHO.
