Sorry, I forgot how important money is in the creative process. Yes, Craig's Bond is right up there with Titanic & Transformers.

Its very hard as the scripts and directing style are done as a good fit to the actor. When they hired DC, it was on the basis that he would fit in with the new style of Bond they wanted.

If you need to make a fair comparison and also try to leave out the differences in dialogue, would one fair comparison be to look at how they handle being tortured?
Does anyone genuinely think that Bros did a better job as an actor than DC in this area. This, after all, is where actors earn their money: portraying dramatic scenes that are way beyond our or their personal experiences. Its a very one sided contest IMHO

Putting aside the fact that they are two entirely different scenes, yes i like Bros more as an actor.Casino Royale is the first time watching a Bond movie where i wanted the villains to win and oh how i wish Mr White had not interrupted Lechiffre during that scenes most crucial moment!

Was Brosnan acting during his tenure? I think the jury is still out on that one!

I know they are different scenes: They made different movies. We will never see screen tests of them within the same set of requirements so we will always be limited in terms of our ability to make direct comparisons. Many may prefer PB's style in terms of the way he portrayed Bond plus he had his own look etc but for me, at a technical level, DC is in a different league.

I think you're right: it comes down to what one looks for in Bond. I personally prefer the focus on character that the Craig era provides. I want to be touched, emotionally, by his story, and that needs an actor like Craig to bring Bond to life.
If you want the Bond movies to be not so much about Bond as a person, but about gadgets and unlikely scenarios and the fun of those, you need a Bond who looks right, but who doesn't do much otherwise, so you can fit him into whichever outrageous story without it seeming out of character. There is merit in that, I just prefer the first kind.

I think that hits the nail on the head for me and like you I prefer the first option, hence preferring the Craig era the most due to it's consistency and the portrayal of the character and I've been a Bond fan since 1977.

The difference is that the 2nd option has been in far more entries than the 1st. Yes it looks like SPECTRE may well be bridging the gap between the two while not sacrificing the characterisation, Mendes somewhat having his cake and eating it.

If it hits the target just right, it may well make this the most satisfying film of the Craig era amongst the fan base. I know a number of those not enamored with Skyfall seem more confident with what we've seen so far, some being more informed having read what they believe to be the shooting script, although Babs would say they haven't and it's going to have been tweaked some more.

It could be argued that Craig is the first Bond of the internet age, yes it was around when Brosnan was Bond but not to the degree it is now. That has probably why it seems that his Bond seems more of an event possibly but rebooting the character made it not just another actor taking on the role but a repositioning of the series and for that reason I believe his era will have a bigger impact and be more fondly remember and revered than Brosnan's will.

    Very funny @JCRendle

Its a matter of taste in the end, like discussing who played the best "Jack Ryan", everyone will have their favourite and its hard, if not impossible to separate the actor from the script, director, era etc.

Craig is definitely the better actor and better Bond and infinitely more engaging to watch, however, I think out of the 2 Brosnan is the Bond many of us would chose to be if given the choice but that could change post SPECTRE.

Why would you want to be Bond? yes as a child and maybe in your early 20's but past that I do have to wonder considering his existence, bearing in mind we are talking about a fictional character. He is a loaner, a possible sociopath and he can't form healthy relationships with women, would you really want to be this guy?

The portrayal of the guy from the beginning even the charming Roger Moore is someone who is not a nice person, are you really aspiring to that?

Why would you want to be Bond?

To escape, even for a small moment, our mundane lives.

    Additional perks include:
company paid travel across the globe, driving an Aston or two, bedding a bevy of beautiful women, engaging in witty banter with worthy adversaries, firing a Walther, killing only bad guys, saving the world, and all the adventure and fun that comes with all of it! Everything one needs to satisfy the male ego!

    I'd be a sensitive Bond......really I would. I'd bring my own interpretation. You'd like me... :)

In all seriousness, I think it's the relative escapism of Brosnan's Bond that doubleoego was referring to in terms of which of the two we'd prefer to be.

But that wasn't the point. You judge quality of content by box office earnings, nothing more.

No it wasn't? I judge films on all aspects. However, the Bond phenomenon really started with GF & TB due to public popularity and box office success (with 24 hour cinema showings and ques outside theatres). There are times however where box office success doesn't neccessarily mean quality.......namely TND, TWINE & DAD. Action over script.

The fact is if films don't make money, sequels don't get made.

My vote is for Pierce Brosnan who is my all time favorite along with Sean Connery

He is the whole perfect package of James Bond : charming, sexy, sophisticated suave, stylish, cool and funny but he can handle pretty well the more action side of Bond and is very convincing when he has to kill in cold blood.

Saying so I apreciate Craig as well and he masters the darker side of Bond like no one. So I give him a lot of credit for that

It just happens that I care more for his lighter side but with the ability to handle his darker side and Pierce has that for me

Well it at least the Brosnan fans are remaining loyal and haven't just forgotten him because DC is the newer model!

I think every true fan of each of the Bond actors remain loyal to their man.
Sure there are some Bond fans who change their favorites as long the series advances but the True fans of each Bond actor will always be faithful to their Bond

As a kid my man was Connery. Later it became Brosnan. Still later it became Dalton....
    All Bonds rock.

Out of the 2 "post-Cold war" Bonds which would be your pick?

Craig. Much more Fleming Bond than Brosnan.

At risk of being pedantic, I think it's "Christ, I miss the Cold War" (in CR anyway)

But given the father, the son and the holy ghost etc etc it's all synonymous anyway ;)

This thread is kinda unfair. Craig is totally going to win
