Much like the moneypenny diaries and young bond books I have little interest in bond universe books..

Same here. Like you, I'm a literary Bond continuation traditionalist at heart.

He is actually in the Sherwood book. In flashback so far, but he appears as a character. I somehow expected he wouldn't be in it at all because of some legal thing, (I don't know why I thought that).
I need to get my nose back in it.

    From Kim's Substack:

    Girl Racer 🏎
Gearing up for the launch of A SPY LIKE ME in ONE MONTH
    KIM SHERWOOD
    MAR 26

    Dear Reader,
If you’re new to girl with the golden pen, welcome! I’m so happy to have you here.

Readers who have been on this adventure with me for a while will know that I can’t drive, something that produced a good deal of laughter as I was announced as the new writer of James Bond. This has become so well known that journalists actually open interviews with me by saying: ‘It’s a famous fact about you that you can’t drive.’ I tell them I don’t think it’s a famous fact… And now it’s not even a true one.

I don't have a licence to kill. I don't even have a licence to drive. But as we gear up for the launch of A SPY LIKE ME in exactly ONE MONTH, Thruxton Racing let me get behind the wheel of 003’s car…

It’s also just two weeks until the third novel in the Double O series is due to be delivered to the publishers. I’ve reached the stage where I’m dreaming about scenes and lucidly wondering if I ought to edit them differently. Isn’t writing fun?

There will be plenty of events around the country too, with a couple just announced at Bath Festival, one with our very own Charlie Higson. Take a look at my website for more details.

I like that the Bond authors are willing to support each other (minus some criticism directed at John Gardner, from Kingsley Amis and somewhat Raymond Benson). I hope we get more modern day Bond-centered adventures soon!

There are reviews out there. Take it with a grain of salt. Spoilers! She has also turned in the 3rd book.
  • Would love for Sherwood to do an actual Bond novel, Double or Nothing read like a well done blend of the cinematic and literary elements in a quite modern setting. I can't help see the parallels between her novel and Goldeneye.

Well, Kim did say that Goldeneye was her Bond experience. And her grandfather was George Baker.

Didn't she mention that Alec Trevelyan was 006 in this book or something? It does feel like a crossover between the novels and the films. That's something I don't feel entirely on board with but others will no doubt feel differently.

No. I believe Moneypenny says something around the lines of how Bond has less trust in people since 006 happened (and his engagement to 003 falling through

Thanks, thought I probably wasn't remembering correctly. That's not as on the nose as I had feared.

Nice one! I bagged one too.

I suppose Waterstone's will have signed copies too, but you can't always rely on that.

That's true. It does sound quite "limited edition" in nature. I always like to snap up these Bond signed editions as soon as they come out. Experience tells me they're much more expensive if you try to buy them later from eBay or from other online sources.

It's sold out now, so I think we did well getting our order in.
Now, I've got to finish the first book. I thought it was well written but I'm afraid the rather obvious 'inclusion' element knocked the edge off my enthusiasm for it. I think I got about a third into it.

That was quick to sell out! I suppose that there were only 100 signed copies on offer though.

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS!! DO NOT CLICK IF YOU DON'T WANT A BIG SPOILER!!
We can officially call Kim Sherwood a Bond author as Bond himself appears in the book.

This has been confirmed by many reviews on Goodreads.

Some information from Kim Sherwood on her Substack:
    The Last Word
I just finished writing Book 3 in the Double O series

    Dear Reader,
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. That’s a relief because I spent all my words writing the third novel in the Double O series, meaning this photo probably sums up my feelings better than I can right now! I got down the final words alone late at night in Gladstone’s Library, and captured the moment on my phone.

I was first approached with a three book deal to write the Double O series by the Ian Fleming Estate in October 2019, and since then I’ve written in excess of 300,000 words in a little over four years. It feels like sprinting a marathon and my week at Gladstone’s Library was exhausting, emotional and exhilarating as it all came to an end. I don’t know what the future holds, but I have huge pride and love for these characters, and I’m so grateful for this dream come true.

It’s special and surreal to finish the third novel just before the second novel comes out. There are so many exciting events coming up and I hope to see you there.

    From Kim, With Love x

Could Bond truly be following this path? I couldn't find the Sherlock Holmes thread, so I posted this article here.

John Gardner already took that path prior to the Bond continuation gig with the Moriarty Journals. It's likely that he was hired based on those two continuation novels as well as his Boysie Oakes work and more serious spy fiction. However, I don't want this for Bond. I'd much prefer proper adult Bond continuation novels myself.

Any word on whether there will be special editions by Waterstones or Goldsboro?

If this happens with Bond, I could go either way. It seems that one of my favorite characters (Batman) has been getting a lot of spinoffs in the last 10 years. Namely Commissioner Gordon with Gotham and Alfred with Pennyworth. A number of his villains have been getting long lasting comicbook series runs: Joker, Penguin, Riddler Catwoman, Poison Ivy and in particular Harley Quinn. As I said, it could be a mixed bag for Bond. Certain characters it could work for, but as long as IFP is in charge, it can hold promise.

And got my copy yesterday! (I'm going on holiday next week and I want to take it, but it's a chunky hardback and perhaps I have better uses for my luggage allowance?)

I got my copy of Double of Nothing out last night and thought 'I need to finish this'. I got to chapter eight a few months ago.
Anyway, I looked for a plot summary on-line to refresh my memory, and I couldn't find one anywhere. I'm sure Wiki had a page for the book with a detailed plot summary, (and I don't mean a teaser summary, I mean the full plot), but I can't find it anywhere. I was googling for ages.
If anyone knows where there's a complete plot summary for the Double or Nothing book, I'd appreciate that. And I don't mean a teaser summary, which is easily found, I mean the complete plot, (I'd only read to where I got to in the book, but it'll save me re-reading the eight chapters).
I think they've took the Wikki page down, I wonder why they'd do that?

They're maybe still reading it. Not sure how many advance copies there were for reviewers. The uncorrected proof copies were certainly very limited in number.

Thanks so much for this. I took extra work on a couple of years ago, and because of that, these days I struggle to find the time to get all the way through plot-heavy novels. I'm the kind of reader that if I leave a book for a week, I lose the general gist of the plot and end up skipping back pages, and it often ends up I don't finish reading books I'm actually enjoying.

So that French site is a godsend, and it even has a list of characters. I very much like how detailed it is. Don't tell anyone else, but I've even printed out their plot synopsis.
